Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I had one DQ on Stage 15. End of the day Friday, last shooter of the day on his 15th stage, Open DIV shooting his last stage. There was one target on 15 that was right at 180. Most of the squads asked where they could shoot it and not break the 180 and were instructed so. You would be hard pressed to break 180 really. Last shooter of the day realizes that he has one target left, can't figure out where it is. I am trying to telepathically tell him "Left Side" as hard as I could. He turns right and engages a target at about 210 degrees but not endangering anyone. ULSC issued, he says "Damnit, I broke the 180" Yes sir you did, I am sad to say. As an aside, I do not know how many were DQ'd from the Chrony stage but that is where they were instructed to go after shooting my stage. I heard of several that did not make their power factor and of course for Minor that is a shoot for fun. I am not sure if the heat was the factor on powder or what but my Titegroup loads consistently chrony 132,000 -132,500 and were 129,200 at the match.
  2. It was great meeting you and running you and your entire squad today sir. CRO for stage 15 Randy Chambers
  3. I bet if it was only $80.00 Cowtown could sell out faster than 3 days.
  4. Ahh, sorry to put bad intel out there.... I'll shut up now. ;-) But that is why I have two Dawson STI's and I was hoping for a third after the drawing, didn't happen. If you shot the Cowtown Classic you might find a photo of yourself at https://www.flickr.com/photos/randychambers/sets/72157650014646244/.
  5. The STI's came from Dawson Precision, the Cross Timbers Club paid for 50% of all Dawson Precision products that were given out as prizes.
  6. As an unofficial spokesman for Cross Timbers I will try to address this. This match is basically set up by two people, Kurt Kauth and Jimmy Davis, as MD volunteers with day jobs. Every weekend and many weekdays using vacation time the month prior to the Cowtown Classic was spent building stages for 14 hour days only to have much of the work ruined by violent thunderstorms three times and causing stages to be rebuilt in different bays. Cross Timbers is mostly active with IDPA and has a strong number IDPA of shooters that are happy to lend a hand in that game, USPSA shooters, not so much, we just do not have that many USPSA only shooter members. On Thursday there were four of us at the range, with the two of us volunteering being old guys over 60 , busting our asses to get final touches done, sloshing through the mud to move stages that were flooded out from the storm two days prior, grading the bays and roads, doing final walkthrough with the RM at the end of the day, and hanging targets for Fridays match. Having Friday shooters walking through, asking questions, etc. would have greatly hampered our efforts and possibly caused us to have half assed stages for the match, that is not an option for this club. That being said, I hope those that got to shoot the Cowtown Classic had a great day and enjoyed the stages. The shooters both days were awesome, reset stages quickly and a joy to run. We hope to see you back next year!
