If anyone is interested I just received an email message from GilbertsGuns and they have the Sig Sauer P320 X5 in stock.

Hey S&W686, thanks for the heads-up about the dealer having the X5 in stock. Just ordered one this morning. At $850, I think it's a good price this early in the production run. Can't wait to get my hands on it and start shooting. Will celebrate with a couple cold brews this afternoon!

  2. I cleaned the hell out of the chamber using a brass brush, a Dremel, and then when I thought it was clean, wrapped patches around the brass brush for a tight fit and with polish on the patch, chucked it in a drill and removed even more black crud. Went to the range today and fired 15 rounds each of 3 different brand shells and had ZERO issues. I hope that solves my problem. I guess when cleaning I am really going to have to work on the chamber. Now I hope it doesn't hiccup during my next match.

Thanks again for all the helpful replies.

  3. I had to use a dremel and some polishing compound on the chamber of my JM. It doesn't take long, but the smoother you make it the better it will work. It still happens with Winchester shells maybe 1 out of 100, but haven't had any trouble with gun club or federal bulk packs.

If you want I could probably try to take a picture of the chamber tonight.

No big rush, but if you think a photo will help and don't mind, post a photo. I have that flex shaft attachment for my Dremel so I'm good to go with that. I really appreciate your help with this. I feel vexed with this gun. As an aside, I always clean my gun thoroughly after use and follow Jerry Miculek's video that goes into great detail on how to really clean the complete gun.

    Thanks gain - Herb

usmc1094 - sorry to bother you again, but when you used the Dremel, how far into the chamber did you polish? The length of a shell or just an inch or so?

The other thing that bothers me is that I probably fired 300 or 400 rounds through the shotgun using the same shells as yesterday and it never had that problem, so what caused it now? I would think it would have happened sooner than after a few hundred rounds went through it.

  5. This is a Winchester shell that had to be pushed out with a rod before I polished the chamber.

Hey usmc1094 - the shell in your photo looks just like mine. I was hesitant to use any compound in case I took off too much material and made things worse, but I guess I will try it a little at a time.

With my stupid luck when I do something to the JM Pro and then shoot a box of shells I don't have a problem. Then, when I go to a match guess what - a problem!

Thanks again, glad to hear I'm not the only guy, not that I wish gun problems on anyone.

  6. Just participated in a local 3-Gun match yesterday, and once again had problems with my Mossberg 930 JM Pro. This time I had two instances of the fired shell failing to extract. The first time, the extractor pulled the brass head off the hull and left the hull in the chamber. I had to stick a rod down the barrel to push the hull out. This happened with a Remington Gun Club 1200 FPS shell. Then, after about 30 rounds another shell failed to extract a Winchester AA shell. This time, it was wedged so tight in the chamber I couldn't pull the bolt back. When I finally forced the bolt open, the extractor had bent back the rim of the brass head. The shell was still stuck in the chamber and I once again had to push a rod down the barrel to push the shell out.

When I got home I took off the barrel but did find anything obvious. When I put an unfired shell in the chamber it slides in and out easily. When I put in the shell with the bent rim, it goes in tight and has to be pushed out. It seems that the hull has expanded. When I measure the fired hull with a pair of calipers, it is several thousandths wider than an unfired hull, enough to get it stuck in the chamber.

Does anybody know what might be causing this problem? I have read about failure to extract issues withe JM Pro, but not with the shells being stuck in the chamber.

I'm ready to throw this thing in the garbage. A year ago I had double feed problems and it took 3 months to get the gun back from Mossberg and it still does it every once in a while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  7. I started shooting local USPSA matches about a year ago and found the following books of great use:

Practical Shooting - Beyond Fundamentals by Brian Enos

    Perfect Practice by Saul Kirsch

Practical Pistol - Fundamental Techniques and Competition Skills by Ben Stoeger

The next two are geared towards dry fire and live fire drills:

Skills and Drills for the Practiucal Pistol Shooter by Ben Stoeger

Refinement and Repetition: Dry Fire Drills for Dramatic Improvement by Steve Anderson

Almost all of these are available on Amazon. I learned a lot from each one, now if I could only put it into actual use.

    Good Luck!

  8. Okay, I do know what dry firing a gun is. But I'm not sure how to maximize dry fire practicing. Right now I just practice my draw and changing through all the mags on my belt, lining up my sights after the draw and each mag change on some spot on the wall. Also, I'm shooting a glock so pulling the trigger can only be done one time in this routine.

This will certainly help me speed up my mag changes and time to my first shot, but for some reason I feel like I'm missing out on something.

Stick a Q-Tip in the breach before closing the slide. This will let you press the trigger without having to constantly rack the slide. You won't get the striker to fire but it will allow you to practice your trigger control

Thanks for passing along that great idea about the Q-tip. Dry firing my Glock with "simulated" trigger pulls was not doing it for me. Did as you said and what a difference! At least for me dry firing will be more realistic.

  9. What division are you competing in OP?

I am shooting in Limited Division

First off I want to thank everyone for their patience and replies. Still learning my way around the BE forums and should have searched more before posting my query. For that I am sorry. After my post, I did as suggested and found some good info in the archives. Based on most of the replies and the archives, I plan to go with the DK Custom Trigger, which I wouldn't even know about if it wasn't for this site.

  10. I have been shooting in local USPSA matches for the past 9 months and am still tweaking my Glock 17 to improve performance. I have added Dawson Precision fiber optic sights, a competition spring kit, and a 3.5 lb connector and like the results I have obtained. I am now looking to ad an enhanced trigger to remove the pre- and post- trigger travel. Doing some research, I have found the Phantom trigger from Rock your Glock, the Pyramid trigger from the Glock Store, and the Zev Tech trigger from Glockworx. The basic trigger assemblies all seem comparable to me with the trigger machined from billet aluminum and Allen screws to adjust the pre- and post- trigger travel. Other than price (the Phantom is around $100, the Pyramid $135 and the Zev Tech $150) what am I missing? Is one of these three better than the other two? are there other trigger assemblies I should be looking at? Any recommendations and insights would be appreciated before I leap and buy something I might regret.

    Thanks

  11. The Burris MTAC 1-4x or 1.5-6x have a lot of fans. You should be able to pick one up for under $350. If you want to spend less money, check out the Primary Arms 1-6x scope. It's probably $100 less than the Burris. PA has an excellent reputation for their products and service.

    Good luck

  12. While attending a training class last month. The instructors were reviwing the draw with the class and were demonstrating a draw in which the gun is drawn from the holster, and met with the support hand somewhere around the center line of the body (All good so far). Then they advocated bringing the gun straight up from midline of their body, directly in front of the eyes/face and them pressing out from there! There theory was you can start to align your sights sooner.

An ex-Marine Gunny Sgt I shoot .22's with advocates doing this as well. A couple of us tried it, but none of us liked it. His reason was the same as your instructors stated.

  13. Count me as a less-than-satisfied owner of a Mossberg 930 JM Pro. I bought the gun in June 2013 and it shot the first box of shells flawlessly. Didn't fire it for a couple months until my first 3-Gun match. Then, in less than a box, it started double feeding shells and did it almost all the time. Only way I could continue was to single load one shell at a time. Sent the gun back to Mossberg, and it took 5 weeks to get it back. Eventually started hounding them every day until they finally did the work. Sent the gun back to me without the barrel/tube clamp, and the forearm retainer was split.

Have fired it about 100 rounds since getting it back and so far it works. But, I finally patterned the gun and it shoots high, even with the lowest stock spacer installed. So now I am trying to find a higher front sight to get the POI down. Of course, Mossberg doesn't sell a higher front sight.

Would I buy another one? No Would I recommend it to someone else? No

  14. I've had a Mossberg 930 JM Pro for about 6 months and finally patterned it to see exactly where it is shooting. I found that it shoots high even after lowering the stock with the factory-supplied shims. So, I would like to raise the front sight by replacing the factory sight with an aftermarket, but have not been able to find one.

Anyone know of an aftermarket fiber optic front sight I can put on the JM Pro? I believe the factory sight screws off, so ideally I would like a taller sight that I can screw in, rather than gluing a sight to the rib.

Thanks in advance for any info.

  15. Can anyone tell me if Steve Anderson's book "Refinement & Repetition, Dry Fire Drills for Dramatic Improvement" contains text in addition to the training diagrams, or is the book just a compilation of the dry fire drill diagrams?

After reading Brian's book, which book would you buy/recommend next, this one or Saul Kirsch's "Perfect Practice"? I am relatively new to practical shooting and am looking for the best tutorials to help me improve my skills.

    Thanks

  16. I have a recurring problem that I can't seem to get a handle on. When I start in a low gun ready position with a two-hand grip, when the timer sounds and I raise the pistol, almost every time I find myself with the front sight too low. I try to compensate by flexing my wrist a little upwards, and that usually helps but it feels a little unnatural. This then follows through when I move to other targets, my front sight tends to drop.

Is there something fundamental I am missing? Are there any drills I can perform to get my initial sight picture to be in alignment.

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks

  17. I have been reading a lot about 3-Gun and would like to give it try. I don't intend to be a "competitor", I want to go out, shoot and have fun. Yes, I would like to do well, but I'm not looking to be a champion - having fun and trying something new is more important.

That leads to my question - I need to buy a shotgun suitable for 3-Gun, but I am on a budget. I am leaning towards a Benelli because I like what I have heard about them and I like the 10 year warranty. But, I don't know if I can justify the price of an M2. Will a Nova or Supernova pump work for someone like me - a weekend 3-Gun participant? I guess I could get a cheaper Remington 1100 or 1187, but it's not something I want.

    Thanks for any feedback.

  18. Hi - I have been lurking on this site picking up information and decided to make it official by joining.

I have been a sporadic pistol and trap/skeet shooter for quite a while, but this year I started getting more serious. I shoot .22 pistols weekly with a group of guys, got my first AR, and now am looking to get my feet wet with 3-Gun.

I have already blown my budget this year on ammo and guns, but need to buy a shotgun for 3-Gun and would like to buy a better .22 target pistol (don't tell my wife).

Hopefully I will learn a lot on this site.
