  1. A little off topic but a point of reference. There are postings on this site of people who have ordered the DS9 LOC pistol. Website says 18 to 20 weeks but people have posted waiting 26 weeks. Apparently MPA has been waiting on steel grips to come in.

Today is 10 weeks since I ordered a DS9 IDPA version. Website still says 14 to 16 weeks so I am hoping there is no delay since this pistol uses aluminum grip.

Of course i want mine tomorrow, but I'd rather wait a little longer if it means the fit/finish and operation is flawless.

  2. I am a low volume reloader using a simple Lee single stage press and the auto disk powder measure. I've got the disk set for a very good powder drop for my primary load with Titegroup but if I want to change loads finding an accurate new disk hole is usually a PITA. I bought an aftermarket disk with set screws in each hole that allow me to fine tune the loads but it's still slow to change.

Came across the Lee Auto Drum which seems to be a far superior solution to the Auto disk. I searched the archives here and found a few threads going back to 2015 and 2017. Owners seem to love the Auto drum and say it works great but usually after a "break in" period. People did things like lube the Drum with powdered graphite, run a pound or more of powder thru before actually reloading, rubbing the Drum with dryer sheets to remove static, sanding the drum with 0000 steel wool, or washing it with Dawn and letting it air dry.

Since these "tips" are all 7 or 8 years old I'm wondering what the experience is with recent Owners. Don't know if Lee has addressed these issues. Do the newer Auto drums drop consistent charges out of the box or would I need to follow one or more of those previous tips?

    Thanks

  3. I load Titegroup and have used coated bullets from Hoosier Bullets, Missouri Bullets, and Blue Bullets. Occasionally I get a "smoky" round but don't know why it happens. Usually I don't have an issue re smoke. But, last week at a match I had one round that was so smoky I could barely see in front of me. Have no idea what caused that.

  4. I have KKM match grade barrels in my G17 gen 2 and G34 gen 4 and have been very happy with them. I have had my G17 since about 1991 with zero issues.

My G34 has a tungsten guide rod which I can definitely tell is there and a Timney Glock trigger which I think is the best after trying a Vogel and then a Zev trigger. I've never considered a  light since I don't want to have a new holster made.

On a separate note, I know someone who added a light but removed the guts and filled it with lead shot. I also know a few people who filled in the back area inside the mag area with tungsten wright's and tungsten putty to add more weight to their Glocks.

  5. I had one in my G34 Gen4 but did not care for it too much. End up selling it and putting in a ZEV trigger. Liked that until I tried the Timney Glock trigger. That trigger is the best IMO.

Looking for an IDPA holster for a Masterpiece Arms DS9 IDPA pistol.  Does anyone know if the holsters for the 5" Springfield Prodigy will fit the MSP Arms?

Several holster makers list the Springfield but not the MPA.  The two guns look very similar so I was wondering if anyone knew if they were interchangeable.

I know there are couple of holster that are made for MPA just looking for options.

    Thanks

RHT (red hill tactical) sells a holster for the DS9. I ordered the same pistol 7 weeks ago and am ordering my holster from RHT. I confirmed with them that the holster fits. Here is their reply to my inquiry: Yep, you'd want to select the DSA Nine option. It fits the Hybrid as well. If you have any other questions during ordering, please let me know!

Thus far I like the center dot with 8 moa circle turned up nice and bright so it almost blends together. Havent had a chance to do much shooting as of yet but I'm pretty optimistic about the 507 comp doing what it does

By cranking up the brightness that much doesn't your eye focus on the dot causing you to lose focus on the target?

That is no longer completely true.
You can use tungsten in ESP and ESP derived divisions such as CCP and CO.

You can not use tungsten in SSP and CDP.

ESP related divisions just have to fit in the box and make weight. Other than that do whatever you want.

Thanks for clarifying that. With all the rule changes lately that one got by me. Plus, my x5 doesn't make weight with the tungsten guide rod in co.

Gray Guns Trigger did you install it yourself or did you send it in?

I installed the Gray Guns trigger myself. I installed it back in 2019 so honestly I don't remember the details of the install but I do know that I did not have any problems, it was straightforward if I remember correctly. I am a pretty handy person but not a gunsmith by any means.

  10. The best upgrade I did to my X5 was to install the Gray Guns trigger - waaaay better than the factory trigger.

Also, I use a tungsten guide rod when shooting USPSA, you cannot use tungsten in IDPA.

Just to clear up a misperception you have. You can use a magwell in IDPA CO. In USPSA a magwell is allowed in the new limited optics division.

As far as bullets go I use 147 gn bullets religiously. I have NEVER had a problem with these in my X5. Lately I have been using FN bullets instead of RN. For my old eyes I think I see the holes in the target better.

  11. I have 2 holosuns 507c's. The first is the original one with the dot and circle, not the newer 507c comp. In the beginning I ran it with the dot and circle but after a while I felt like I was seeing too much "green" so I went to running the dot alone.

Later, I bought the 507c acss with the 8 moa chevron and the large circle that let's you find the dot faster if you are still sometimes challenged like me. Once you are on the "dot" you do not see that large circle anymore. I really like that chevron. You can focus on the point of the chevron when zeroing and later once the chevron is anywhere on the target you know you are good to go.

I don’t mind sharing a bit.  Going to start with the work up this weekend.  The gun was awesome with 135 blues over 3.4 of titegroup @1.145.  129pf.

Looking forward to hearing how the DS9 shoots with the ported barrel.

I have also been loading with Titegroup at about 130PF so I'll be curious to see what kind of loads work well with the ported barrel.

  13. I'm getting ready to order an Atlas Athena and am on the fence on whether to buy the optional hard case. Th pistol comes with what looks like  nice soft case but you can substitute their hard case for a $125 upcharge. Part of me says hey you are already spending $5,700 what's another $125 but another part says hey you are paying for a Ferrari they should include the accessories.

The case looks real nice with two foam layers with cutouts for the pistol and about 8 mags. It's lockable in case you need to take it on an airplane(I never have go date). All my current pistols are in soft cases and I've never had an issue but then none of them are $5k guns. Other than bragging rights when showing up at a match with an Atlas case I'm not sure if it really serves another real purpose. I guess I could buy a Pelican-like case without the custom foam cutouts for less money and it would do the same thing. Since the pistol only comes with 1 mag I'm going to have to buy several extras so the $125 would pay for 1 mag plus a spare spring/follower kit.

Just wondering what other Atlas owners did and for those who bought the hard case what you think of it.

    Thanks

Interesting...here it's rifle and pistol guys vs Sporting Clays guys, 900 vs less than 20, respectively.

Here we have a junior rifle league and 4H youth groups a person could donate to. I imagine they would turn around and sell them to get funds.

I know one shooter who is selling off his inventory as no one in his family wants them.

I guess there is no easy solution.

Yeah, I don't have kids and my relatives who don't shoot anyway live in communist NYC.

If I know I have limited time I coul try to sell them to relieve my wife of the burden. Where I live in NC there is a local gun dealer who "preys" on widows, buying their husband's guns for cheap and then selling them for much more $$$$. On top of that he takes all the ammo at no cost as part of the purchase. Something I want to avoid.

  15. This may seem like a weird topic but here goes.

A few years ago when I updated my estate plan I had my firearms go to a good friend and the IDPA group at a local gun club. I don't want my wife to have the hassle of trying to sell or otherwise get rid of my guns if something happens to me.  Well, fast forward a couple of years and my friend has some serious health problems and I may have to handle his guns before he ever has to take care of mine. Then, infighting at the gun club between shotgunners and pistol shooters could bring an end to the IDPA events so I don't want my guns going to a bunch of a$#holes who oppose public matches at their range.

So I am now looking for new ideas of who I can leave my collection to. Nothing spectacular,  2 shotguns, 4 rifles, and 5 pistols though I am in the process of buying 2 high end 2011s. I know the NRA accepts firearm donations but for several reasons I am not keen on giving them to the NRA. I've never seen  if IDPA or USPSA accept such donations. Not sure what other stand up organizations are out there that I could consider. Any suggestions?

And no, individual forum members are not eligible no matter how good you  🙂

    Thanks
