    Longest COAL for a TSO?

Shot the gun for the first time today. Ended up going with the following load: 180gr Bayou VV N320 4.0gr 1.135” OAL .419 crimp It shot well (100%) with the 20 rounds I loaded. Recoil was minimal. Might have to bump up the charge to make major, but I’ll do that when I have a chrono. Zero signs of over-pressure despite being near max load published by VV. Great shooting pistol! Thanks for all the help so far.
  2. Just shot my TSO for the first time today, and it is a sweet blaster. Even with factory ammo, the recoil is very manageable. I’m loving it already, and my reloads felt even softer. The one thing that doesn’t fit me well is the safety. I tend to grip the gun high, and the stock safety digs in to my weak hand pretty good. I bought the extended safety from CZC, but haven’t found a great “how to” install video/instruction yet. Any advice on where to find one?

    Longest COAL for a TSO?

One more question: what is the proper crimp on these rounds? I’m at .417”. Is that too much?

    Longest COAL for a TSO?

So what OAL do you run, 858? This forum is awesome! So much help.

    Longest COAL for a TSO?

Thanks! What are the reasons loading long is bad? Inconsistent velocity/accuracy?

    Longest COAL for a TSO?

Thanks! That’s almost the exact load I had initially.
  7. I do want to be in major power factor, but I thought it may be best to start low and work up. I'm just confused as to why everyone is running short loads above published max by the powder company? I was thinking of loading longer to make sure I don’t cause an over pressure situation. Factory WWB is right at 1.126”.
  8. Alright, I pulled those rounds and remade it at 1.170”....they passed the plunk test and fit alright in the mags.. I also dropped the charge to 3.7gr N320. If these function, I can work my way up from there.

    Longest COAL for a TSO?

Thanks guys. That’s a great tip MRev! i made some loads at 1.170 and they passed the plunk test and fit in the mags.....will have to see how they function. They have only 3.7g of N320 under them, so will probably have to work up the pf eventually.
  10. What is the COAL you run for .40 major in your TSO? I'm developing mine right now, and it seems like everyone runs a bit short compared to the 2011 guys. I’m using Bayou Bullets 180g over N320. My initial load is 1.126”, but I think I may pull them and try a little longer. Any tips/advice?
  11. Thank you, Sir. I appreciate your advice.
  12. Yeah, I think that’s what I’ll do. Better to err on the side of safe. Is it true you should always load the longest your gun will accept, or not necessarily?
  13. Here is the thread with everybody’s preferred load for CZ Guns:
  14. Yes. All ten rounds passed the plunk test I saw that on their website, and that has me questioning the load....I may pull the Bullets and start a bit lower. I got the load data from a bunch of posts on this forum. Most guys seemed to be running between 4.6-5.1 of n320 under 180g. Apparently the CZ guys run shorter COAL than the 2011’s too. I want to be very careful not to spike the pressure though.
  15. I have my new 1050 up and running today, and want to check with you guys if there is any red flags before I shoot it. I’ve loaded .45ACP and 9mm (unique powder) in the past on a 550b, but this is my first run with .40 AND the 1050. To my suprise, the 1050 came pretty much dialed in from the factory....just needed to adjust the powder drop. I’ve read about 100 threads on here and elsewhere, so I *think* I am at a good starting points, but would like to double check here. I will be shooting these out of a CZ TSO. Load data: 4.5gr N320 under bayou bullet 180g 1.126” COAL Win spp Win case I do not have a chrono, but will have access to one once our club starts shooting outside again (still icy here in MI). Am I safe with this load? Thanks
  16. Thanks rmantoo. I’ll post up my thoughts after I get a few thousand rounds on the gun.
  17. Thats a great story, but used SVI’s seem hard to find....I’ve been looking. I’m a believer of the “buy once, cry once” philosophy, but decided to take a different route. I bought a new CZ TSO and a Dillon 1050 setup for .40S&W. The CZ, 1050, 10k primers, and 8lb of VV N320 all arrived today! ......GREAT day for deliveries at my house, lol. It’s a leap of faith, and we will see how it ends up, but I will enjoy the journey. At the end of the day, I want to be a better SHOOTER, so my skills are much more important to me than my equipment. It’s fun to buy new things, but I felt the investment in top notch reloading equipment/ammo would benefit me more than a $5k custom gun that I don’t shoot enough. When I get to “A” class or better, I’ll think about “upgrading” my gun. Not sure how I’ll like the CZ yet..... *tried posting up photos, but file size is too big
  18. Yeah, I agree. It takes serious dedication to drive that far on a regular basis though. Personal time is is at a premium for me having two kids under age four. I’ve gotta make the most of every hour.
  19. When you guys live fire, is it at a static range, or do you have room to run and gun? Im fortunate to live close to a great range and group of shooters who practice twice a week and set up stages each time. The problem is there is a lot of shooters.....I probably only get to run through four or five stages in a time period of four hours. It’s fun, but seems like a horribly inefficient use of time. Aside from having private land, is there any other way to get in some useful live fire. I can do draw drills on the static range, but moving/reloads is where I really need practice. Thanks for the replies so far
  20. I listened to the audiobook, and also own a hard copy. It was not a great book for audio, but not bad. This book is probably better to read in print, but I enjoyed it regardless. Brian seems to have dissected every possible aspect of the sport, and I find that admirable. I bet the guy can shoot in his sleep!
  21. I’m new to USPSA. I’ve read Brian’s book, and have Stoeger’s and Anderson’s books on dry fire. I have a setup in my basement to practice, and the local group shoots twice a week. What is considered a good ratio of dry to live fire? From the reading I’ve done, it seems like dry fire is possibly more important than live fire. Do you agree with this? I’m contemplating buying a Dillon 1050, but maybe I don’t need it. Seems like the number of rounds down range isn’t as important as I originally thought. I load on a 550now, and perhaps a 650 will be plenty. Let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks
  22. Ive had similar experiences in the past where I regretted not getting the best I could afford right off the bat. What Atlas gun did you get? I’ve been looking at the Titan and Nemesis. Nemesis looks cool, but the price is up there near SVI. Are build times really under four months for them?
  23. Ha! I would love to buy MM’s gun, but if I’m going to spend that much $$$ I want it exactly to my specs. Not to mention, his gun is about $1200 more than my build would cost. His gun is awesome though! Ive also been kicking around the idea of a CK Arms (or Atlas) and a Dillon 1050. Same price for a gun and 1050 as the SVI. Right now I’m loading everything on my 550b.....1050 would be a nice upgrade and still have a quality gun.
  24. Thanks guys. I think may try to pick up a used 2011 and shoot it for a bit. I really like my 1911s still, so I think I’ll hang on to them and save up money for now. Is there a certain round count you would avoid in picking up a used gun? I know some guys shoot A LOT, and I don’t want to drop $2k+ on a worn out gun. Over 20k rounds seems like quite a bit of rounds to me....not sure if that’s an accurate assessment.
