I have a couple thousand .45 that I reloaded a few years ago and never used so I thought I'd try them out this week. I used .45 for my Kimbers but sold all of them and didn't have a 45 until I purchased a new TRP. This week I took a box of my reloads with me and 2 of them got stuck in the throat. The first one wasn't bad but I thought maybe I just made that one a hair longer. The second one stuck in there pretty good so I obviously didn't try any more. Out of seven rounds 5 were good. Here's a picture of one of the bullets that were not working. The bullets are Precision and I looked at some of the others and I have two different bullet profiles. The two that got stuck were fp's. After looking at the round nose version it looks like it has a slightly longer shoulder that I could bring down to the top of the brass. The RN bullets are loaded to a 1.265 oal and the fp are set at 1.23. Can I run these through the seating die and double check the crimp or are they just garbage now? Here's the specs on both bullets. I don't see the 230g rn listed on Precisions website but I'm 99.9% I bought them there about 4 years ago. I do know the fp's are Precisions for sure. I know I should have kept better records on what they are but at the time my wife and I were going through 2000+ rounds a month so I just kept the information on a dry erase board. Lesson learned.

I think I'll try to fit the floor with plywood or maybe remove the carpet and go with a heavy matting.

Personally, it'd do away with carpet in the area... Easier to sweep up debris.
I'd love to get rid of the carpet but I'd probably have to sleep on it in the garage. My wife was kind enough to give me the closet is the dogs bedroom to work with. Damn, I'm pathetic.

I can see about 3/4 into a .40 case.Just wondering, can you look in each case, before the bullet is placed in it?

I actually used the same setup with my 650 and it was very comfortable for me.If your planning sitting in that chair, IMO, you'll get tired pretty quick. It looks way to low. Just my opinion.

All I need now are some bullets to start loading with and a few containers for the brass. I used this closet when I had my 650 and had to cut the door in half to keep my Great Dane from getting in my face and licking the press while I tried to reload (she can still look over the door and see what I'm doing). I posted a few pics of the room in an earlier post but didn't include the door so I thought I'd post a few more showing the progress on the other items. Anyway, this is what I have so far.

Can someone tell me what the height of the handle is from the top of the bench without the strong mount. I made a nice bench for my 650 but sold it with the press and I'm trying to make another bench for my 550 that's on the way.

That's one thing that has me a little worried. I hope the dies and conversion kit don't take too long. I guess it is what it is though.

Is anyone using Rocky Mountain bullets? I just purchased 1000 .40 180 grain and I'm curious what I should expect.

I sold my 650 setup a few years ago and decided to start reloading again. I thought about getting the 650 again but I don't plan on using a case feeder and I don't really need to crank out 500 rounds an hour so I decided to go with the 550. I should have the press in about a week but I still need to get a .40 conversion kit and dies. I'm pretty pumped about getting started now.

Interesting. Do alot of people do this?

I love the way the colored grips look. Is the paint pretty durable or does it chip off?

I sent the mags in to be worked on so I should have them back next week. I'm still not sure what to do with the Apeiro when I get it back. I'll probably just end of keeping it and then pick something else up later.

Wow, that looks great.

I've always liked the 2011 format and a couple of weeks ago I broke down and purchased an Apeiro in .40 cal. I put 150 rounds through it and the pistol performed perfectly. I had a few cosmetic issues, trigger creep, and the front sight was bent to the right so I sent it back to STI for warranty repair. While it was there I decided to have it hard chromed and am expecting it back in the next week or so. So far I've purchased 1 126mm, and 2 140 mm mags and they should be here Monday. I'd like to buy the Dawson tool less base plates because I like the way they look but was wondering if they work on the 126mm mags as well as the 140. I wanted to have Serrations cut in the front of the slide but STI doesn't offer it right now. Now I'm wondering if I should sell the pistol when it gets back and buy one of the HP Edge pistols from Dawson or Brazos. Everytime I search the internet all I see is how everyone is raving about the Edge and especially the HP Edge.
The place I purchased my Apeiro from did some kind of micro polish inside and out on the magazine, they also said they tuned it. The mag looked beautiful and you could feel the difference between it and the 126mm I purchsed. I plan on sending the 140mm mags to him when I receive them tomorrow so he can work on those also. Anyway, before I start dumping more money into the Apeiro do you think it's worth just selling it and moving on to the HP Edge? The lack of front serrations kind of bother me but I didn't notice it at first because I was so focused on the island barrel and Sabertooth serrations in the back.
Is this much varience in oal normal?

I just received an order of bullets and they seem to vary quite a bit. They go from .568 to .585, it may even be more but I only checked about 30 out of 2000. These are .40 180g plated bullets. Looking at the bullets straight on you can see that the nose length is different, some are wide some are more narrow.
