I'm new to the Sig. Does the Romeo 3 only come in the one dot size , and what is that dot size ?
Also may I ask what the other brand was that you were using, and what dot size was in the other brand ?

I think Grams still sells the follower and spring combination as this,
For use in Tanfoglio/EAA Witness Large frame magazine tubes.
For 9mm , the follower will be marked as Grams-TS ,
and the spring and follower kit is marked as Part # FKTS-13, It is a 13 coil spring for the 170mm magazine.
For the 38, the follower is marked as Grams-T ,
and the spring and follower kit part # is FKT-13, and again it's the 13 coil spring for the 170mm magazine.

Thank you. I appreciate the encouragement! I'm going to keep cracking at it. Its only fair us tanfo lol have them too. Lol I have said this every month since December but hopefully this next one will work as a prototype

Whatever your doing just keep it going.
It will be a hot item for us Tanfo open guys.
If you get stuck on something, just sit back, have a few beers, and the answer might present itself.
It's what works for me, but I probably shouldn't recommend it to others. Good luck.

Originally close. The spring goes into the cavity but the bullets wouldn't. So the 170 got the same as the 140.
Working on enlarging it and still having grip on the mag. No wobble.

Excellent, that's what we need, guys trying to develop products for us Tanfo people, maybe help level the playing field a little. Keep going Open1215, we need you.
The only other alternative we have is to get USPSA to level the playing field and institute a 28 round limit rule in open division.
. LMAO we know that's not going to happen. ( and we have enough rules already )So for now the 2011 has the slight advantage in the magazine department.
But I have faith in you Open1215. Get Ur Done.

That's the problem , Reliability.
I know someone that had two big sticks using 9mm Mec-Gar mags welded up buy Bill, and he was really happy with his work.
But Bill told him these will not hold 30 rounds, and if you were to get 30 in them, the reliability would not be there.
I trust Bill to be honest when it comes to the magazines he's building and what he recommends, and all his stuff he builds fits in the USPSA guage for legal use in a match.
For me personally, do I want a 30 round mag that is Not 100% reliable when the stage or match is on the line ?
Or a mag that runs a few less rounds and works every time.
Always take the gun that's working , then you have a chance at winning.
Not here to offend, JMHO.
Again I have not yet heard of a 30 round 100% reliable magazine for the Tanfoglio platform.
It would be great to have them though. That's why we are all constantly trying different things to make our equipment better.
And it seems open guns require the most effort when it comes to getting longevity and consistent reliability out of them.
But how I do so enjoy shooting them.

Bill will cut two tubes to length and weld them together
VR4145.
Bill does a great job welding up a couple of magazines for you to make a big stick out of.
However , from what I understand, for the Tanfoglio guns, the magazines will still Not be capable of holding 30 Rounds.
Reason being they have to fit in the 171.25 USPSA guage that Bill uses to make them legal for competition use.
Bill will recommend to you to use the factory follower , and give up one or two rounds so the mags have a higher reliability and function better. That would put you at or around 26 or 27 , even 28 with a Gramms spring and follower.
I don't think the 30 round magazines for the Tanfo platform are here yet. Hopefully in the near future.
Bill is a really good guy and does a tremendous job welding mags together for competition shooters.

I have a limited 9mm top end I would like to turn into a open setup. Question just to make sure I'm understanding the process. The barrel I need to purchase is the 6 inch straight barrel from Eaa? And so then with the comp on t works out of the limited slide I guess. My other question is I see Eric Grauffel shop has two comps you can buy. One with 2 holes and some poppets, and the 3 hole version. Which one is recommended? Thanks for any insight.
Correct, get the 6'' inch straight barrel from EAA.
Cut it and thread it , thread is 15mm X 0.75 pitch.
Get the 3 port Eric Grauffel Cone/Comp.
Leave enough clearance between the comp and front of the slide so they don't make contact upon lock-up.

Any updates on making a consistent PF on V12 barrel in 9mm? Really looking to get this in 9mm only if it can make PF/. Thanks for your help.
Several guys lean towards HS-6 and a 124gr RN, also Autocomp is popular too.
As Garmil stated these Tanfo open guns, with all the barrel ports, are a bit loud to shoot.
However if you feel that this platform fits the best in your hands, than yes you can make it work for you.

The Tanfo Open gun in 9 major is a bit more difficult to work with do to not as many load options making major with all of those barrel ports, but it can be done.
The other issue is the availability of a dedicated 9mm 170mm big stick. You can have one welded up though until a better option comes along. Some guys are able to run there 9's in there 38 Super big sticks.
There is another guy on here also that builds his own Tanfoglio Open guns in 9 major and 38 SC. He builds them using the Limited Tanfo platform, less barrel porting. a real good guy named gennaro. You can see his stuff in the Tanfoglio porn thread. Also , Welcome to the forums.

I want to thank all of you for the advise, I ended up using a heat gun to soften what ended up being red loctite. I believe I found out why it turned, the previous owner had only put the thread lock on the smooth un-threaded portion of the comp to barrel junction. I thought that was a little strange, shouldn't the thread locker be on the threaded portion of the comp to lock it on?
The red Loctite is more commonly used directly on the threads of the parts,
( it's also higher heat compatible, which is a little better when using with a comp )
There are other Loctites such as 620 Green which is more commonly used with un-threaded surfaces or press fit assemblies. But the green has also been used for threaded cone/comp installs too. Again the Primer helps with the strength of the Loctite , and especially if different types of metals are assembled together.

Recommend using new Loctite as it does have an expiration to it.
Also highly recommend Loctite Primer 7649 with the Red 271 or 272.
But you will have to work a little quicker when using the Primer, it does set up faster.

DenverDave as you said most open shooters usually run 38 or 9 for the extra rounds.
You can get a 38Super big stick ( 170mm magazine ) from EAA.
Loading 38 is straight forward, there are many different powders and load combinations in 38 to choose from, so you'll easily find a recoil that feels good to you and possibly softer and flatter than the 40.
As you said, with stages set up at 33 rounds, everyone will need to make a mag change somewhere.
So if you like shooting the 40, your set up for it, and your fine with the recoil, then by all means keep going with it.
But you might be happier with the 38 platform, you won't know until you try it and compare for yourself.
On occasion those few extra rounds may help you in making a decision on how you address a course of fire, and might possibly give you a faster time.

I like the look of that Limited. I hope that finish holds up over time, and if not I would like to see it in hard chrome.

In the Elite Limited, IMHO, still go with the 40.
However, in the Limited Pro, the 9mm. But you wanted to go heavy and home defense and re-sale,
then stay in the 40. The Elite Limited is single action only.
Others will be chiming in shortly to give there opinions also.
Take your time and way the pros and cons before you buy one.

If your looking at the Elite Limited specifically, as in your topic,
go with the .40 . This way if you could compete in Limited division if you wanted and resale is still pretty good.

You've quietly helped out myself and others on here with there open guns, but we need you to chime-in more. Let us know what your working on, and put your two cents in with some of the discussions on here. ( Sorry for the rant ).
As kneelingatlas said, the guns look awesome. Is there anyway you can post a pic of the guns individually , so we can see them better ?

Working on the builder aspect as well. I will mill tanfo slides for now. Until I get an ffl I can't do anything else. I want to do barrels and comps soon but I will need a lathe.

Open1215, very cool. We could definitely use some more options with parts for the Tanfo's.
And hopefully more Tanfo open gun builders too, to help give us more ideas and different things to try out.
