Going to start at 24.5 and do 3 of each till 25.5 if there are no pressure problems to the naked eye or acuuracy gets bad at certian point i will stop. May not make it to 25.5 but got them loaded just incase is all. Not going to max of 26.0 for sure unless circumstances dictate it

Ok i looked at hodgdon online and it said starting at 24.0 and 26.0 max so i thought about starting at 24.5 and working my way up to 25.5 with a 2.235 COAL. I have a remmy 223 with a 1x8 match grade barrel and was wondering from some of the rifle shooters what they think of that starting point ? I am a pistol loader and just now getting into rifle just want to stay atleast half a grain off the max to account for less COAL or a tenth or two tenths of a grain towards the max. Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Looking for some suggestions or what some of you all are crimping a .224 69 gr hpbt bullet at ? I found all the other info I need but that spec escapes me. Just want some info to start with thanks for the help considering I have never loaded rifle cartridges before and just loaded pistol till now. Time to graduate.

I loaded some today at 5.2 grains and 1.165 and was happy with the outcome. Also loaded some at 5.5 which were ok to I was just more accurate with the 5.2 ones.

9mm. Ok been usuing Hodgdon Titegroup,hp38,universal clays and SR4756 and there getting hard to find. I shoot mainly 124/147 plated bullets from berrys and some FMJ ones to but stay in the 124/147. Thinking about Vihtavuori powders ( kinda seen some around here recently is why ) and I see there are several like N310,320,340,330 and 350 and I see where it "seems" like the N310 or maybe the N320 would be best for IDPA from what I read here but wanted to get some specific answers in this thread form you all. Maybe I need to use 2 diffirent ones for the 2 diffirent weights but I have no idea on this. Thanks for any and all help

from, Printed 2013 125 gr FMJ hp-38 1.090 COAL, 4.8 load, vel 1088 , 28,800 cup to hodgdon online 2013 125 gr FMJ hp-38 1.125 COAL , 3.9 min to 4.4 max vel 1086 , 31.200 cup to 2014 Hodgdon online guide 124 gr BERB HBRN TP plated hp-38 1.150 COAL 3.9 min to 4.4 max vel 1037 , 31,900 psi I see the different weights in bullets by 1 gr and 2 are FMJ's and one is plated . Just in the same year of 2013 max went from 4.8 to 4.4 and the cup went assbackwards in my mind with a bigger COAL but velocity stayed about same UGH. I will go with the 2014 specs now just seems kinda hard to understand the changes.

In my m&p I can go up to 1.160 and its fine just trying to figure out does the pressure increase that much in 30 to 40 thousands ? Most of the ammo I load 124 gr its about 1.125 and curious if that is two tight pressure wise for the 147 gr with titegroup 3.6 or sr4756 with 3.6. Is there any formula for maybe 10 thousands shorter or vise versa in any amounts or is it just wishfull thinking and testing is then only way for us weekend loaders.

Err brain f*rt. just remembered that its the ogive I have to worry about and will load 4 up and make sure they cycle dry wise , then load 4 up with powder and shoot them to see how they do.

Would the recipie for one be the same for the other and what about oal ? Only thing I am not 100% sure of is the truncated might be fmj . I know the berrys 147 is plated for sure and it may not make a diffirence but wanted all the facts out there. I have loaded some truncated ones with hodgdon universal clays at 3.6 and a oal of 1.075 was curious if I needed to adjust that with the rn's 147's. The truncated projectile is 0.654 in length and the rn is 0.672 so there is a 0.18 diffirence in length. It may not be much difference but wanted to run this by more experienced loaders than me. My question is , should make the berrys 147 rn 0.16 longer in OAL lenght to adjust for the added lenght in projectile VS the truncated 147's ? Tia

I will have to try that recipe with a 147 rn plated from berrys and would assume it will be the same vs fmj.

I shoot berrys 124's and .377 crimp and works fine

Oh yeah I have shot some pretty long loads out of a factory winchester box before like 1.150 and was surprised.

I run a m&p full size and have alot of berrys 124 rn and 147 rn plated and since I cannot find hodgon universal clays I have got to use hp38 and it works fine for my range needs of practice ammo. Plus from what told hp38 and w231 are the same and I got 12 lbs of it to use up.

I loaded some 147 jhp's at 3.6 gr of hp38 and seemed light. I just loaded up some at 3.8 with a coal og 1.115 and should be better.

Thanks will try 3.2. One other question I know I am a rookie but what is the abbreviation "pf" refer to ? I know I should know that but all I ever load is 124 gr rn 9mm and normally have my recipe that works.
