Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. The purpose of mindfulness is mindemptiness.
  2. Got it. This jives pretty well with CS's post. Thanks.
  3. Wow, what a beautifully articulated, well rounded post. Thank you for taking the time, SanityChallenged. I dig Pavlov. But I didn't realize practicing surprise reloads would negate the feedback-based approach to training. Thanks for clarifying that. For the part where I fry fire in three targets, 2 on each, and immediately do a reload, do I start with the gun in battery and pretend it's at slide lock after the 6th shot? I feel you have given me a lot to work on.
  4. What Nimitz said. I'm not very accomplished but I was wondering about the same thing a few months ago. Tried on a par timer and it wasn't even close on a P226. Number 2. I do think that this is probably gun dependent, hand size dependent, and handedness dependent. Give it a shot. You can do it at home.
  5. Thanks so much; I see three categories of advices here: 1- Practice until it becomes second nature. You'll feel the minute differences (sound, weight, feel) 2- Count your shots 3- Plan the stage and have backup plans for x number of misses (count makeups only) And of course, some advices are combos of the above. Ok, practicing numbers 2 and 3 is straightforward (although their accomplishment is not). Number 1 is more feel based. Any advice on how to practice? For example, I'm thinking I'll load 6 mags, each with either 1, 2, or 3 rounds. Scramble, go at it a zillion times. Does this sound like an good plan? I can't really afford a zillion rounds, which is why I ask. What training method would you recommend?
  6. Yeah I tried that, but I had to transfer to weak hand to continue counting with strong hand...not worth the time imo
  7. I shoot IDPA, and hence have to go to slide lock often. When my gun goes to slide lock, I don't notice. I notice after attempting to pull the trigger, which is inefficient. If I shoot the stage without makeup shots, I don't have this problem as I know before-hand where I'll run out. When I do take a few makeup shots, the slide lock invariably surprises me. How should I train to improve on this - in dry, and live fire? Thanks!
  8. Ok, I've gone out to the range twice now, after dry firing a bunch at home. My gun is a P226, and my hands are smaller than Bob's. I can't emulate him. The bore axis is just too high on a sig. I'm starting to come to the same conclusions that you guys are pointing out, which is to develop what works for me. It seems to me that if the left hand is much stronger, and if the gun has a low bore axis, the cant would happen naturally as you guys pointed out. The reason I'm focusing on this topic is that my gun is a .40 (my only gun), and I'm having trouble getting my sights back on target cleanly and quickly. Thanks all for your input.
  9. I see. He does say he puts a lot of torque inward from both hands. Since the left hand is higher on the gun, I does make sense that it's more effective at torquing the gun clockwise. I didn't think about it before your response. You mention in your other thread that grip is very important in tracking sights. Does canting the gun like this make it more difficult? I can't get to the range to try it till next week. It just seems to me that it may make the sights path more erratic, versus a clean up-and-down. Yeah, I can only imagine that cross dominance can make it much more challenging.
  10. Hey guys, I was watching a bunch of Bob Vogel videos, concentrating on his grip. I notice he cants his gun clockwise from vertical. Is there a reason for it? If any of you do it, what benefits do you see? I'm too new to post links to his videos, but you can find lots of examples in his vids if you watch closely. If this has been discussed before, please chuck it up to my noobness and direct me to it. Thx much.
  11. I'm trying to download the surefire app, but after I tap on download, it says this product is no longer available. Anyone knows what's up? Also, I recommend you don't delete it as you may not be able to download it again until it's back.
  12. Hi, a new version of tapatalk came out a couple of days ago, and it's preventing entering onto threads again. Would you plz install the new one into the forums? Thanks.
