  1. Hey everyone,

Now that we are getting closer to the match, just wanted to remind everyone that if you booked at the match hotel, make sure you got the match rate (about $89 if I remember correctly). If you haven't booked yet - don't forget the discount code is "SKS."

Also, if you need to ship ammo, give me a shout and I will hook you up.

And please don't forget the raffles we have going on.....there is in which anybody can participate and then there will be a second one where ONLY the folks shooting/working the match can attend. And yes, Le Bonheur is a 501©(3) organization......

  2. looks like something bad just happened to the self squadding.......

Nah, we just combined some folks from several squads into one squad.

I think we only moved maybe 5 folks in total......one being Sam's wife. We showed her who was boss!!!! :D

And we also reserved a few slots in the existing squads that took us the maximum number of shooters - we are going to have some embedded RO's and thus needed to reserve those spots for them.

But if anyone isn't happy with where they and need to be moved elsewhere - just let me know and I am sure we can work something out....and if the request is a little difficult, I am sure buying a few raffle tickets will help your cause. :goof:

  3. I believe we don't have IPhone 5 because it is going to be LTE, hence an upgraded 4 is what we were given. Apple has already stated that it will take serious changes in design on their part to build a LTE phone.

Remember VZ 3G and AT&T 3G are not similar, in any way. VZ's is a software upgrade to their 2G, hence why their speeds are 10% - 30% of AT&T's current 3G version, HSPA+. Unlike AT&T's version, VZ's 3G doesn't allow voice and data simultaneously. It is for these reasons that VZ had to go first into LTE, and build out fast since their LTE is not backwards compatible to 3G, like AT&T's version is. And therefore, their LTE phones will have to have two transceivers for their phones to ensure coverage (1 for CDMA and 1 for LTE). That is a battery killer......and as everyone knows from using several of today's phones, batteries are already drained quite rapidly.

So a LTE IPhone is going to take some serious design and hardware changes on Apple's part......I don't think we see an IPhone 5 until next year's announcement time.

  4. Time to short Apple! :D

Without actually holding an IPhone 4S itself, I would say that the 4S simply brings the hardware commensurate with that of most high-end Android devices. The speed of the throughput, at least through HSPA+, should be in the 12mb range like the Atrix. Combine that with the dual-core and better graphics capability, I think current IPhone users will see big time speed increases.....but again, equal to that of Android devices.

As to which device you want - it really boils down now to which OS do you prefer? Now I carry both the IPhone and the Atrix and I can say that IOS is just easier to use, a little more intuitive, and I prefer its notifications over Android. On the flip side, IPhone is FAR from being able to customize like my Android.....so it definitely loses some "cool" factor in that area.

While many are disappointed with today's announcement.....I think that disappointment is due to VERY high expectations and rumors of what we had hoped would be announced. And instead, Apple simply announced that their phone will now be equal to most high-end Android devices. Not the typical announcement we are used to seeing.

  5. Regardless of the medium, we would fully expect a CPA firm to continue certifying the accuracy of the voting results. However was this current firm, or any other firm, approached to see if they were aware of an online solution available? A system that provides the minimum controls and processes in order for them to provide confirmation on the reliability and accuracy of the voting?

Assuming there is an on-line solution available: By eliminating the costs of everything associated with preparing and then mailing out the almost 20K ballots along with the charges incurred for the extra time associated with physically receiving and tabulating the incoming ballots (versus manipulating an electronic file), is there an idea as to what that amount is? And if so, how does it compare to a potential online solution's costs?

Not exactly what I was asking.....this appears to be a quote for a complete outsource and not what I was asking.

  7. And don't worry if you feel you will not be "very competitive" with a revolver. There are actually two matches going on in this one match (and arguably three). The first match consists of those people that REALLY know how to shoot a revolver. The second match is everyone else laughing their ass off while watching folks like me TRY to shoot a revolver. (This is from a previous post by Brad G.)

Brad, you are fast with a revolver, trust me. You do however need to work on your reloads. :roflol:

That is why I have been trying to convince Sam to run just 6-round stages.

  8. Up to 37, although one shows up as Single-Stack. (WTF with that.) Where are the rest of you? This is the premier (sp) Revolver match for USPSA!

Can I shoot my 1911 as a revolver if I only load 6 rounds in each mag? rolleyes.gif

I thought I had previously answered this one, but must have done so in a different thread for this match, and I know Sam chimed in on this topic as well.....

First and foremost is that this is a charity match benefiting the LeBonheur Children's Hospital. Therefore, we don't want to discourage anything that will reduce our ability to donate the biggest check to them.

However, the original intent of this match is for it to be a revolver-only. And so Sam doesn't want to give a blanket approval to allow any gun to be shot in the match as he fears that doing so will take away from the intent of the match. For that reason you will see some non-revolver shooters.....but we just ask to try and shoot a revolver if at all possible.

And I guess the third match is simply listening to Blueridge shoot his 50 cal....but then again, you don't necessarily have to travel to Memphis to hear that thing go off.

  9. It would only be icing on the cake if they could beat the cost of the CPA firm we use now, but if the cost was in line with what we pay now, wouldn't it be nice to make voting so much simpler / easier that 50% of our membership voted?

Seeing how America is quickly becoming more and more, a digital society, even as we speak ..... ;)

Personally, I think it would only increase our response.

That is more of what I was thinking.....granted we would still require a 3rd party to do all of the verification (thus all of the collection of votes). However, where my question therefore is going - I would be somewhat surprised if there wasn't a "digital" means that could be used to collect the votes in a secure and acceptable manner and in a price range that wasn't too prohibitive.

In other words, the costs of actually mailing something to almost 19K folks and then the extra time required of the CPA firm to physically handle the 5K-6K of returned ballots.......how does that portion of the election costs compare to paying for a license/use of existing software that would allow voting online?

And my other question on those lines - what level of service/security has been quoted for online voting? I cannot believe that the risk of fraud in our elections is very high; therefore, have we sought quotes with a reasonable level of risk acceptance?

Not questioning anyone's statements or actions done to date - just asking if USPSA has really stepped back and looked at everything, verified the minimum requirements as to what we need (as opposed to want), and then obtained quotes and analysis on that plan?

Funny you say that Barry - for the first year, Sam was considering letting folks shoot non-revolvers. And in my case, he said I could shoot my limited gun by only have 6 rounds maximum in the gun. But after some thought, he nixed that idea and forced me to shoot the round gun.

  11. App in the mail today. Is anyone organizing a match shirt? I'd like another Techwear with a revo logo.

    Paul

Right now, there is not a match shirt. When I talked with Sam on this subject, he said that we didn't get very many orders last year and so he wasn't doing them this year.

Now things could have changed, but given the lead time to get shirts, I don't think so.....I will however follow back up with Sam to reconfirm.
