  1. Hi Folks, Just a quick note to let you all know that photos taken at the match by Michelle DeHan are now available for viewing at www.uspsa4.org. Folders are listed by the squad number. Shooter names and stage numbers are not shown. And not every squad was photographed but those that were show a lot of brass in the air if you look close. The photos are high res so allow some time to download them. Enjoy the pics and I'll see you on a range somewhere. Wayne Miller
  2. Hi Shooters, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who braved the heat and humidity and participated in our match this weekend plus offer up a big "CONGRATULATIONS" to all of the winners. A very special "JOB WELL DONE" goes out to all of the ROs and staff who made all of this possible. And to my setup crew, well, all I can say is "You guys are the BEST!" Our sponsors provided almost $30,000 worth of goods for the prize table. This was the largest amount I have ever seen for the Area 4 Championship. Please show your support for them with your $$$ when you need shooting supplies and accessories. A special note for those of you who won a plaque but didn't receive one at the awards presentation. I'll be working up a list to send to ProTech this week and they will be asked to ship your plaque directly to you. If you forgot to write down your mailing address on the yellow tablet that was at the prize table please email me directly at wwmiller@suddenlink.net. And once again, Congratulations! Thanks for all of the positive emails. Take care and I'll see you on a range somewhere. Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship

  6. Hi Folks, I am pleased to announce that the Area 4 stages are finally posted on our web site at http://www.uspsa4.org/a4_2007_stages.aspx. There were some delays in getting them together and getting them approved but John Amidon signed off on them Tuesday. Our status for Level III Tournament has been approved. The official round count is now 297. If I missed it by a round or two I'm sure someone will let me know. Hah! See you at the range, Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship
  7. Hi Folks, The late entry fee for the Area 4 Championship has been extended to 5-15-2007. I have received inquiries from shooters who were attending Area 6 and the Arkansas Sectional about extending this deadline since it fell in the middle of the matches. The match application posted on the web and the online entry form have been updated to reflect this change. Thanks. See you at the range, Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship
  8. As soon as we get Amidon to sign off on them I'll list them on the Area 4 website and here on the Forum. Thanks
  9. Hi Folks, I’m pleased to make the following announcements. For the first time in many years we have made it possible for the staff and ROs to participate in the main match instead of the usual scaled down Staff Match. That's right. I’m talking about all 12 stages + chrono to be shot on Thursday. Your scores would be added to the main match results and you would get a trip to the main prize table in your order of finish. In order to accomplish this we have put into place some special rules. In order for a staff member or RO to participate they must be on the range early Thursday morning. We will pay for your rooms starting Wednesday night at the match motel. Staff not wanting to shoot need not be on the range until Friday morning at 7am so we will reserve your room beginning Thursday night. I can send you a separate Staff Entry Form so we will know who is shooting and how to make your room reservations. This will be the only ‘match’ option for a staff member if they want to shoot. There will not be a separate Staff Match/Prize Table. By all means you are welcome to shoot any of the stages ‘just for fun’. A staff member can begin shooting at 9am Thursday and will have until 6pm that evening to complete the stages. We ask that stage CROs make themselves available to us sometime on Thursday to inspect their stages, just in case. As stated above the staff’s score will be added to the main match no matter how many stages they complete and they will be entitled to walk the main prize table on Sunday in order of their finish. Staff members shooting on Thursday must show up for work on Friday and/or Saturday to be eligible for awards and the prize table. The second big announcement is that our Level I and II NROI seminars prior to the match have been approved by USPSA. Troy McManus will be the RMI for the CRO class and Ray Hirst the RMI for the RO class. We would like to take advantage of having so many students at the range by inviting some of them to stay and work with you on some of the stages. Please contact me if you have any questions and let me know if you hear of anyone who would be willing to work the match or might be interested in one of the NROI classes. Thanks again for your help and I’ll see you on the range. Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship
  10. Hi Folks, Yesterday I confirmed with Kim Williams of USPSA that we can indeed have both classes in June prior to the match. Troy McManus will be the instructor for the Level II class and Ray Hirst will conduct the Level I class. As verification she has added these classes to the NROI web site calendar of events. The classes show to be in Tyler, Texas. This is not accurate of course. Bossier City is the location but the computer links the classes to the host club. She added a comment to the listing to help correct this. The classes will start on June 6 at either the match hotel or at the range. I’ll know more about this as time goes on. Every effort will be made by Troy and Ray to complete these classes in one day but they are scheduled to last 1 ½ days. The cost would be $20 for the Level I course and $25 for the Level II. The additional expense required by NROI will be picked up by Area 4. Contact me for applications at wwmiller@suddenlink.net . Rooms at the match hotels have been reserved for staff as well as for students. Please contact any one of the 3 hotels to book your rooms. Special rates have been negotiated for us and those rooms are blocked under ‘USPSA’. I’ve attached excerpts from Kim’s email below explaining a few things. If you have any questions please contact me. See you there, Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship Kim’s Remarks..Directed to me as Match Director Level I This confirms your requested Level I Range Officer Seminar to be held June 6-7, 2007 . The name and email address of your instructor are noted below. Please contact him soon if you have not done so already. Below are some guidelines in order to insure a successful seminar. Your class has been posted on our website at www.nroi.org. You can email me at kim@uspsa.org Schedule the seminar to start promptly at 8:30 A.M. with the registration of students. The instruction will start at 9:00 A.M., and the first day will end around 5:00 P.M. Please note that these times are a general guideline and not set in stone. Due to instructor flight times, they are subject to change. Your instructor will let you know if he wishes to change the schedule for the weekend. Check with him first! All seminar fees and applications must be given to the instructor on the first day. In the afternoon of the second day, a range facility will be needed for practice in setting up a course of fire and conducting live fire exercises. All students will need to bring a rulebook and a notebook for use during the seminar. I will ship a few extra rulebooks with the course materials for those who might have misplaced theirs, but ultimately the onus is on the student to provide his/her rulebook for class. Students must be current USPSA members, but they may renew or join at the seminar. Copy the attached application and have all students complete it prior to the first morning. If you have problems with the attachment please let me know and I'll send it another way. Collect the fees for the class, deposit them into your club’s account and then issue the instructor one check from that account. The instructor will then forward that check onto USPSA. However, USPSA membership renewals and sign-ups can come in on individual checks. There will be some membership brochures sent with your course materials as well. 11. If it's the one we borrowed last December, well, it's still in my trunk. Sorry, but when the dust settled I couldn't remember who loaned it to us. Want to pick it up in June at the match? Wayne
  12. Hi Folks, I heard about the motel problems and called today to see what was going on. I convinced the 'lady' at the Rodeway to search the blocked rooms and she finally found us. The rooms are blocked under "UNITED PISTOL ASSOCIATION". My name is also on it too. I THINK(?) she understood to change the name to USPSA, like on the contract, but the front desk help may not be able to do that. I'll be calling the sales manager Monday to see if she can get it changed back to USPSA. BTW, the Microtel and Quality Inn probably have the same problem. So PLEASE TRY AGAIN. You should have better luck this time. Thanks. Sorry about that. Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship
  13. Hi Folks, I talked to Hicks today and Manny now has the list of award winners from last December's match. Along with the EzWinScore database of the match I sent him the other day the plaques/medals should be in the mail soon. Manny is in Florida until Friday but he told Hicks he would get started on them first thing Monday. Hope this helps get your awards to you soon. BTW, if any of you have moved or for some reason have a different address from the one you gave at registration last year I would suggest you contact Manny at Protech and let him know your new address. See you on the range. Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship
  14. Hi Folks, I played such a minor role last year in the match (I was a RO) that I didn't read any of the threads posted here about it until yesterday and YIKES! Let me see if I can light a fire under Hick's rear and get something going. And if I can I'll post it here as soon as possible. Thanks. And sorry that happened. I can guarantee it won't happen this year. Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship Well I can't speak for him but it sure looks like he isn't very concerned about getting the awards to the people that earned them. All he has to do is send an email to Manny with the names and addresses of the winners. I would think a guy could do that in 3 months, wouldn't you?I have a hard time coming up with a good reason, but a lot of people traveled a long way to shoot that match. If you are lucky enough to win an Area match, it's nice to get what you have coming to you. He sent me a email about a month ago saying he was working on them. It's getting pretty tough to believe him. Do you just accept the fact we may never get our trophies?
  15. Hi All, I’m proud to announce that effective this evening the applications for the 2007 Area 4 Championship are now available at http://www.uspsa4.org/matches.htm . There are 2 types available. The old paper style you can print out and mail in with a check and our new electronic version that allows you to use a credit card or PayPal to register and pay the entry fee. The electronic entry form is easy to use. Plus, it will get you a much quicker response with a passcode for using the Self Squad Feature. If you need one of the all day squad slots or one of the other slots this is definitely the format for you. In most cases I will respond to you with a passcode within 24-48 hours. The Post Office might get your paper entry to me in 3 or 4 days after you mail it. But either way I will respond to every shooter in the order in which I received their entry. Our webmaster is currently working on the match shirt order form and we have no raffle items at this time but these two issues will be resolved soon so please return to our site often to see how to order these. I’m looking forward to hearing from everyone out there and seeing you at the range in June. And as always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, Wayne Miller TY34768 Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship 214-335-8468 cell
  16. Netflix was really great when I started using them. There is no Blockbuster in the rural town I live in and Netflix was getting DVDs to me from DFW in 2 or 3 days. But as soon as I answered one of their email survey questions like "When did <movie> arrive?" or "When did you return <movie>" the service went downhill. Now its 4 or 5 days minimum between movies. My advice is Ignore Their Survey Questions!
  17. Hi Everyone, Level I and Level II NROI classes are being planned for the Wed and Thu prior to this year's Area 4 Championship. Below is a note that I sent out to the Section Coordinators listed in the Area 4 web site. Unfortunetly 3 of the email ids listed there are not accurate and the email was returned undeliverable. Hopefully the note will get better coverage here. Thanks, Wayne Miller TY34768 Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship Hi Folks, A Level I and a Level II RO class are being formed and are to be held in conjunction with this year’s Area 4 Championship in June and I need your help to spread the word to your shooters. I have listed below our expectations and can produce these classes with no problems if we can just get enough shooters to form the classes. Each class requires a day and a half to complete. They would be held on June 6th and 7th just prior to the match. 20 students for each class would be ideal. Less will be acceptable and more would be wonderful. The Range Master Instructors will be ‘local’ and working the Area 4 Championship so the USPSA fees would be half price. That’s about $15 for each student. Rooms have been reserved at the Rodeway Inn & Suites for the students at a $49 rate for double occupancy but they can stay wherever they prefer. We always need RO help at this match so some students not shooting the match and interested in working it could stay over and become match ROs. From that point on Area 4 would provide them a room, (double occupancy and at the Rodeway Inn only,) from Thursday night until Sunday morning checkout. Lunch at the range will also be provided Fri, Sat and Sun. Match staff personnel also receive a match shirt and a name badge. Not all students would be needed therefore selection would take place prior to the classes by our Range Master, Tom Drazy. Those students selected would be notified in advance of our intention to use them in the match. And, as at all matches, the Range Master’s decision is final. So, whether a shooter wants to just take the class, take the class and then shoot the match or take the class and then work a Level III Tournament afterwards, this would be the perfect opportunity for it. Plus the price just couldn’t get any better. If anyone is interested in taking one of these classes please direct them to me at wwmiller@suddenlink.net or they can call me on my cell at 214-335-8468. I’ll be happy to answer any and all questions they may have. Thanks, Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship
  18. Great Mike, I'll put you two on the distribution list so I can keep you informed on how it's going. Please send me an email at wwmiller@suddenlink next chance you get so I can put you on that list. Thanks, Wayne Miller Match Director 2007 Area 4 Championship
  19. Although in the past there were conflicts with dates like Space City. Make a Wish and even the Nats, the weekends in June were more of an inheritance than anything else. People that have been around forever have reminded me that it use to be held on the first weekend of June (which I remember) and then moved to the second to make up for the extended school year. It has always been a tradition down here to make the match available to as many juniors and students as possible as well as the adult shooters of Area 4 therefore the summer dates. Range help is much easier to find also after the school is out for the year since setup takes a week. Now, from a setup and managing point of view, some folks have even suggested to have the 2007 and 2008 match back to back. 2007 the last 2 or 3 days of the year and 2008 the first 2 or 3 days of Jan! Sounds weird, huh? Happy Holidays to all of you out there. Hopefully I'll get to see all of you at the match. DVC Wayne
  20. The one day shoots will be a single squad of about 8 on Friday and another single squad of 8 on Saturday. Once the Holidays are over I'll get more info on the Area 4 web site. See ya, Wayne
  21. The match dates are Thursday June 7 for Staff and Vendors Only Friday and Saturday for scheduled shooting Sunday for awards and prize table. More specific info will be posted later. Thanks, Wayne
  22. Hi All, I have some preliminary info for the 2007 Area 4 Championship. More info will be reported here on the Forum, and on the Area 4 web site, as we get it. The info as listed in Front Sight is accurate except for the contact person. That will be me, Wayne Miller, at wwmiller@suddenlink.net. My cell phone is 214-335-8468. Tom Drazy will be the Range Master again and I will be the Match Director. Tom's email is tadj@discover-net.net. A match application is being designed and will be posted on our web site and sent to USPSA for publishing soon. We are looking into the possibilties of accepting Visa/MC for the entry fee and using a link on the web app to STB Designs for match shirt orders. We haven't heard back from our webmaster on this yet. Self squadding will be used for this match as well as the same shooting schedule as last year. Shooters can select either Friday AM/Sat PM, Friday PM/Sat AM, all day Friday or all day Sat slots. The all day slots will be limited to a single squad each day with only 8 shooters on each squad. The match motel will be the Rodeway Inn & Suites where I will house the staff and have extra rooms blocked under "USPSA". I also blocked rooms at the Microtel and Quality Inns under "USPSA". The rates are 49.00, 59.00 and 72.00 respectively for double occupancy. Rooms will be available until 5-21-2007 at all 3 places and then released for general sale. Remodeling at the Rodeway will be finished by June so the problems we experienced at this year's A4 should not occur. I was guaranteed by the sales manager, Joanne Folse, that the room remodeling, breakfast area, bar, meeting rooms and wireless web will be complete and in place a long time before we arrive. I have asked USPSA about the possiblities of holding a NROI certification class in conjunction with the match, specifically a Level II. Anyone interested in a Level II, or for that matter a Level I, RO class should contact me so we can determine if we have enough students for a class. If we do, some of the students will be solicited to work the match at which point we will pick up the usual expenses as match staff. I would suspect student fees would be approx $30 for the class plus room costs. Rooms will be available at the Rodeway at the 49.00 rate in the event we get enough students for a class. I will have more on this on our web site at a later date. Please feel free to contact either Tom or me if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, Wayne Miller Match Director, 2007 Area 4 Championship BTW, since Hicks has the checkbook, there will be, must to the dismay of many, Standards again in 2007!!!
  23. Hi All, I just got back from the Shoot Out Range in Bossier City and uploaded the Area 4 Match Results to the USPSA Major Match Results page. Congratulations to all of the winners and hats off to all of those folks who came out and braved the heat and humidity, especially the staff and ROs. See you next year. Wayne Miller Match Director
  24. Hi Folks, I'm sure to get flamed BIG TIME but I'd like to reply to some of the comments I've read about the match this year. 1) I put the stage designers name on each stage for a reason..You'll know who to blame!! I'll take the hits for those I designed. 2) Hicks wanted the 50 yard standards back for only 1 reason..the rain didn't allow the shooters to go prone last year. I'm scared as h--l that it will rain again and they'll show up again in 2006. (I'll just quit!!) 3) Stage 11 does indeed have the Texas Star and various forms of it. Just be glad Hicks didn't have his way. He wants to see one on a mover!!! 4) Speaking of mover. the plates on Stage 2 are Texas Star plates mounted on a low mover (like the running rabbit in sporting clays) 5) "I" named the standards on 4,5 and 6 after the designer!!! 6) Amidon wants all the measurements on 3,4,5 and 6 for consideration as future classifiers (SCARY!) 7) In November our MD(Tom Drazy) cleared the gate on stage 12 with ease. Not bad for a guy with an artifical left leg!! 8) I registered shooter #176 tonight. The match is over 1/2 full 9) The only time period left is the FriAM/SatPM period Enough bandwidth use. See you at the range. Mr. Fix-It
  25. Hi Folks, Match applications for the 2005 Area 4 Championship are now available online at www.uspsa4.org and www.texaseastsection.org.
