I have been contemplating this same thing myself. I have been using my 550 for about 4 years now and it has worked great but I really wish I knew then what I know now as I would have definitely bought the 650. I am only loading 9mm so I most likely will sell my 550 to purchase a new 650. This thread just confirmed what I already suspected, the 650 is the press to have!

Why did you like the 165's better? Accuracy, softer recoil, etc?Loaded up some Xtreme 165's with 2.9gr. of Titegroup today. My SP-01 Shadow seems to really like them. I also loaded up a few hundred Xtreme 147's with 3.3gr. of Titegroup. The 165's are definitely my preference of the two. I really like the feel of the heavy bullet.
I plan to order up a few recoil springs to play with now. Anyone happen to know what weight the stock Shadow spring is?
They were definitely softer to shoot as well as a bit more accurate of the two particular loads that I compared.

Great thread for this new CZ owner. I am working on a load for my SP-01 Shadow now. I plan to play around with some of the 165gr Xtreme bullets tomorrow. My M&P loved them!

There is a company called 3 gun stuff that makes a plastic throw lever for the PA 1x6. I have one and it has worked great. Fit is good and have yet to break it.
Are you using the universal one? I don't see specifically for the PA on their website.

Which of the Kolpin mounts are you guys finding to work best for these carts? I just picked up a cart on CL and need to grab some mounts.
The offset ones seem like they would work well.
Or the ratcheting ones?

Thanks guys! Mecgar it is!

My Roam 2 has worked great for me mounted to the bill of my hat.

Looking to pick up a few more mags for my SP-01 Shadow and was curious which magazines you guys prefer for competition? I have read a few times the Mec-Gar mags are actually more reliable than the factory CZ mags. What do you all use and or prefer for competition use? Thanks in advance.

Called David @ CGW today and he is sending me $216 worth of something tomorrow. I am excited to get it all and have it installed.

The scales from SSI are thick in the right places, and feel great in the hands. Just like a woman

Just submitted an order on Bud's for a 26" M3000. I hope it is all you guys make it seem.

Looking at ordering the necessary parts to improve my newly acquired SP-01 Shadow. What parts would you guys as more experienced CZ shooters recommend that I get? I would love to just send it in to David @ CGW for their Pro Package upgrade but unfortunately they aren't taking on anymore work for a while from my understanding. I figured I would just purchase all of the parts and have a local gunsmith do the installation. With that said, what would you all recommend? Keep in mind that I would like to keep the gun IDPA as well as USPSA Production legal.
Thanks in advance for any advice and or suggestions that you would be willing to share.

I was in the exact same situation as you are last week. I called Oak Hill, the guy who I spoke with was less than nice, terrible attitude and acted as if I was bothering him when I asked him if the stock Shadows were actually in stock. I ended that conversation and immediately called Stuart @ CZC and had my new stock Shadow in my hands in less than 48 hours from AZ to NC. Stuart was awesome to work with and I love my Shadow so far!

Ordered the Shadow from CZC today! Needless to say I am pretty stoked!
Based on some research I see most of you guys use the Bladetech DOH/Black Ice holster. What about mag carriers? I am thinking Comp Tac?
-
Oh yeah, my hand definitely covers the majority of the mag well.

Don't know a lot about IDPA pistol rules, but you did not mention what division or divisions in which you wish to complete.
IDPA section 8.2 and on is a good place to start and then compare CZ pistols to division requirements. Looks like SP01, CZ75s and 85s look like they are all legal in SSP. The 75/85 look to be legal in ESP. The SP01 not. YMMV but don't see the need to spend $1,300 for high end CZs. Would I like one--responding yes. I am competing in USPSA with a stock SP01, fixed competiion rear sight, competition hammer, and good trigger job. And, the pistol is more than enough to shoot well in USPSA. Total investment in the pistol discounting additional mags is approximately $800, maybe less.
A good way to get into this is a stock SP01 or 75/85 Combat. Get a good trigger job done on it and if the IDPA rules allow upgrade the sights to a good low profile fixed or adjustable rear. If you want a 75/85, I would go with the 85 Combat since it does not have a firing pin block safety, which means a better tripper feel. All three pistols you should be able to have them match ready for < $850 and probably much less than that depending on what you have done, and initial price.
Again to say I am a novice about IDPA is an understatement so, my advise with regard to which pistol is allowable in any division could be completely wrong. I did skim through the rules before making my comments.
Personal opinion on CZs are great pistols.
Thank you for the insight. I plan to shoot ESP starting cocked and locked with safety on but also want to keep the gun open to USPSA Production as well. While I have never shot USPSA I do plan to shoot it this year as it is much larger in my area. Most USPSA matches sellout within a couple of hours of registration opening.

Below is a write up I did for a CGW SP-01 Tactical. My recommendation is to spend more money on getting better by buying ammo. That stock Shadow with a couple of low cost upgrades like changing out springs will go a long way. kneelingatlas, who puts together a great thread on how to tune you CZ, he posts a link in my thread, says his favorite DA/SA hammer is the stock Shadow hammer. The 75 pre-B or CGW Type 1 disconnectors are "drop in" and are good additions. My CGW SP-01 Tactical with all the goodies was around $1150 shipped. You can't go wrong with a stock Shadow and some DIY. The Shadow is very easy to work on.
Thanks for posting. So after reading that I am gathering a stock SP-01 sent in to CGW can be just as good as a full out custom from CZC?

Looking for some direction as to which CZ you all would recommend for IDPA. I have looked at many websites and searched many hours and to be honest I am almost as confused now than before I started. There seems to be so many options! I have very little experience with the CZ platform outside of shooting a few stock guns. With that said, which would you guys recommend? Should I pick up a new stock gun and send it in to CZC, CGW, AA etc? Or, just buy one already done up from one of the aforementioned mentioned shops? Which shop would you all recommend?
Oak Hill Guns seems to have good pricing on the SP-01 Shadow..

Is this what I should be looking at or one of the higher end Shadows in the $1300+ price range from CZC?
Thanks in advance!

That is correct, in fact I think the trigger may actually work with stock internals as well. Reduces pre and over travel by about 20% which in my opinion is a perfect balance.

I have 4 Apex kits, only one is the FSS (polymer version) and it will be coming out as soon as I can get another comp kit ordered. I have been shooting with the comp kit and the take up that comes with it for so long now I just can't get used to the lack of take up in the FSS. In fact, the one and only match that I shot with the FSS I fired a shot before I was ready because I was anticipating the take up that wasn't there. It wasn't an unsafe shot as it was pointed at the target but it was just before I had a good sight picture. None of this is to say the FSS is a bad trigger, it just doesn't work well for me.
My absolute favorite combination is the Apex Comp AE kit paired with the Polymer Action Enhancement Trigger. This is what all of mine will have except for the one that I keep for SSP.

Have you tried the m&p 9c? Mine is as accurate as my 5" pro and will take full size mags.
That is actually me everyday carry gun. I shoot it pretty well but my hands are really large and mag swaps are extremely difficult. Would love to have something just a little larger.
-
Gotcha, I have contemplated picking up a midsize .45 to shoot CCP. Really wish S&W had a midsize 9mm with a 4" barrel and 15'ish round capacity.
-
I plan on getting classified in cdp with mine. I was going to get the 451 basepads from Taylor freelance so I could fit 11 in the magazines and they pair up with the sss magwel.

What would be the benefit of having 11 in the magazine? To shoot SSP or ESP?
Magazines not dropping free

Any ideas as to why Mec-Gar 17 round AFC mags would randomly not drop free during dry fire drills? Mags are brand new but seem to feel slick and smooth. Is this a mag problem or a gun problem?
Thanks in advance!
