  1. Welcome to the forums. Glad you found Brian's site. There really isn't a better place for info on the competition side of pistol shooting. I have grown to enjoy the reloading as much as the shooting. It also lets you shoot a bunch more for the same price. Enjoy the shooting and the reloading.

    Hello

Hello fellow North Carolinian. I read Brian's book then found the forums and have had a great time reading through them. It is amazing to me the amount of information in here and how well presented it is. I am glad you have had the same experience. Hope you continue to have fun shooting and reloading.
  3. Hey the ikea jansjo is cheap and throws a ton of light. Check out the led page on their lighting section. It comes in two styles one with a weighted base and one with a clip. The weighted base is only 10 bucks. It is a pretty focused beam so you may have to back it up to see what you want. The ikea dioder under cabinet light stuff is also cool. It goes a ton of places. Check it all out.
  4. Enjoy yourself on the forums there is a ton here. I like the M&P 9mm I have a friend who has one and I borrow it when I can. I am trying to talk him into the M&P 22 as well it looks like fun. There are some amazing pistol shooters on here so browse around and learn some of their techniques.
  5. Welcome to the forums. There is a ton of information here on all of the competitive side of things. Hope you get as much out of it as I do.
  6. So I finally got back in town from all of my work travel. Polishing was definitely the way to go. I tried some diamond lapping paste from mc master carr (4776A32)and some 1/4 x 1/4 felt bobs. It seemed to work pretty well. You can barely feel the scratch with a pick where before it was easily visible just looking in the chamber. Also by using those small bobs I didn't have to get anywhere near the rifling. I finished with a larger 3/8 felt bob just so I didn't leave anything on the edges of where I polished. The diamond paste cut fast enough that it was only about 3 20 second passes with some cleaning in between to see where I was at. All in all didn't take that long once I got all of the parts in. Thanks again for all of the advice. Makes me want to dig a lot further into the gunsmithing world.
  7. Hello and welcome. There is a ton of great info on the competition side of things here. Hope you find it as helpful and friendly as I have.
  8. I would definitely agree that you should not reload more than 12 to 15 of any setup before you test them. I have gotten in the groove and thought well I will just do another 25 and maybe a few more.... Then you get to buy a bullet puller and undo things when they don't quite work out the way you thought. (by the way the rcbs collet puller works great on 9mm jacketed) I really enjoy the reloading part of the sport almost as much as the shooting just take it slow start at the bottom end of the loads and test alot before you go into production with something.
  9. Hello to another North Carolinian. Have you have fun digging through the posts on here. I spend far too much time in them. I also use some of the Lee stuff to reload. It can be frustrating at times but it is so much cheaper I cannot turn it down. Good luck with your "shooting" therapy. Hope it brings you some fun.
  10. Welcome to the forums. Lots of great info and helpful people around.
  11. Thanks for the tip. I will try that and see how it fares. One other question do you think I should just catch that area or is it worth trying to finish all the way around the chamber?
  12. So in addition to the many other reasons not to shoot a show clear round here is one more. As near as I can tell this happened at the last match that I shot. A dropped round with some crud on it worked its way back into a mag and now I have a wonderful way to tell my brass apart. Whatever crud was on that round it has put something in the chamber that scratches brass from the mouth to about half way down the case. Not real deep but enough you can feel it with your fingernail. The gun is a 9mm 4.5 xdm and I would rather not do a new barrel right now. So any advice on how to polish this out would be appreciated. If I got the attachment thing working right then there is a picture with this that shows the marking on the chamber where whatever it is has been hanging out. A pick will catch on it and yes I have cleaned it to see if it goes away. It doesn't.
  13. Thanks for the welcome. I am near Greensboro. Pretty much in the middle of the state. I do have family the other side of Wilmington from there. So I do end up down in that area occasionally.
  14. Finally joined after browsing around for a while. I have been reloading and shooting for a little while but I have enjoyed getting into the competition side of things. It certainly changes how you look at what can happen in a few seconds. This seems to be about the most even keeled of the forums I have found so thanks for letting me join. I am looking forward to learning from some of the experience around here.
