  1. Thanks Mick for giving Glenn a "heads up" on the market and need for a large (but light) tactical charging handle. Usually the first comment I get on my VM tactical from friends at 3-gun events is "nice gun but that charging handle looks way small". It's also kind of "slippery" the way Remington made it, even with all the lightening holes in it and I have had trouble with it too. He could make colored ones to go with the end caps and tubes too! If he also offered a non-rotating model for those that wanted to send their bolt in to him for a minor modification to go with it, that would be even better! Keep us all informed and thanks!
  2. Wonder if the company that's making these extended tubes (I have a +2, love it) would be interested in making an "oversized" (read larger than stock) knurled charging handle for the Versa Max??? Seems like there would be at least as good if not better market for these as the end caps. The stock one on the VM is still pretty small. Something like the handle Mossberg put on the JM Pro would be fantastic.....
  3. Does anyone know where/how I can get a LARGE, knurled charging handle for the Remington VM Tactical? Either a custom shop that's already making them or a machine shop that understands this stuff? The stock one is a pretty weenie sized one for a tactical handle plus it spins which makes it less effective too. I'd like to find one similiar to the size on the Mossberg JM Pro or the large Benelli ones. I've been cruising the usual net custom shotgun sites to no success. As popular as this gun has become in 3-gun circles, seems liked there would be a decent market for this. Thanks for any feedback!
  4. Anthem This would be a great report to see if Brad's custom plugs work with the Pro Ears better than just regular plugs. Keep us all informed on the results and thanks. I'm wondering if they might work too well and eliminate the ability to hear range commands....?
  5. Thanks for all the feedback. My Dillions gave me 5 good years of service but time to put 'em down. Found a great deal on some Pro Ears gold slim models at Optics Planet, NRR of 28 which is pretty good, 5 yr warranty too. I think with some plugs underneath that are corded so I don't lose them when I don't need the plugs, will be a winning combination for AR shooting with loud muzzle comps.
  6. Ok, the Pro Ears seem to offer hearing protection in the neighbor of 26- 28 for the slimmer models, which is quite a bit better than that of the Dillion's (which are really made by Competitive Edge Dynamics) which have a NRR rating of only 21. I am wondering if most of those out there shooting 3-gun are finding that tey need to wear plugs too under the electronic muffs, even with better rated Pro Ears?? I'd rather not have to fool with plugs too but man, those rifle comps are loud, especially if you are RO'ing the shooter!
  7. My Dillion hearing protection has finally crapped out on me and they didn't work that well for 3-gun rifles with muzzle brakes anyway. I'm looking for recommendations on electronic hearing protection that people own and use that they feel gives good protection for 3-gun. I'm thinking a pair of Pro-Ears with a slim profile for rifle use but haven't used any of these. Thanks for any experienced advice!
  8. Thanks to everyone for the replys and advice. Looks like I'll be getting an IC and LM chokes! Good shooting everyone!
  9. Hummmm, it's kinda looking like I may need a new choke. Could sworn I saw Keith Garcia running the same choke on his Versa max in Tac-Ops.
  10. I have a Remington Versa Max tactical model that came with a cylinder choke as the factory standard choke that has some holes cast into the choke. The choke also has some standoff teeth for door breaching. The barrel is not ported in any way. At a recent 3-gun match operating under IMGA rules, I was shooting in "Tactical Ops" and some were saying I should be in open class because of "porting". The barrel has to be ported as I understand it to qualify as true porting to throw one into open class. I sure would appreciate any and all comments to help me clarify what division I need to claim to use this particular set up. I really don't want to have to buy yet another cylinder bore choke if I don't have to. Thanks for any and all advice!
  11. I have been thinking about installing a receiver rug in my AR to prevent blown primers from finding their way into my trigger group and locking it up. However, I have heard that they cause a significant amount of increase in the trigger pull. Since I really like my trigger at it's current weight of pull, I am hesitant to maybe use one of these. Does anyone have experience with these and what were your results?? Thank you for any advice!
  12. My long +2 end cap runs great with the stock spring but I usually run it with a longer Nordic one "just in case".
  13. Spank Ya, In addition to the carbon staining, I am getting a lot of leading on my +2 extension that embeds itself in the almost micrscopic machining rings of the extension (which is black). I have tried several things unsucessfully so far to get the "stains" out. I don't want to use anything too agressive that might damage the aluminum. Wondering if you have had this problem (seems to be the worse from shooting slugs)and if so, have you found anything that works well?? It's only a cosmetic problem, the extension works perfectly, but if I can keep it looking good to, that would be a bonus! Thanks
  14. Chota, well thanks for that one, that pretty much takes care of the problem and the choices for the Tripp AR mags. Suggest that Tripp remove the AR mags from their website!! Think I'm going to go with a C products 40 rounder for now while I think about that Surefire 60 rounder job. Thanks everyone for your input!!
  15. Wow, two back to back opinions of the Tripp mags that are 180 degrees from each other.....although I have heard from others that Tripp has been less than responsive to other purchasers of their products when they did experience problems. This makes me wonder.........
  16. Thanks Doug, that's a great reccomendation. If you haven't experienced any problems or misfeeds after 5 years with the Tripps, well I'd say that's the acid test! I think I am going to get a 42 Tripp Reserarch mag and wait untill Surefire makes an anti-tilt follower for their 60 round quad stack version. I'd really like to have one of those but I remain amonst the unconvinced on the reliability issue......
  17. Thanks Larry, sounds like a good routine. Seems like a guy can get patches with blue on them indefinately though. I just keep wondering when is enough. This is a fairly new AR barrel but it is stainless. Less than 200 rounds.
  18. Thanks Dan, I'll check into the CMMG follower. Appreciate the feedback
  19. Boomfab, they never made it right with you?? They wouldn't fix it??
  20. Anyone out there familiar with the performance and/or reliability of the 42 or 52 round AR-15 magazines by Tripp Research? A friend said that he thought for a high-cap AR magazine, these were the most reliable, especially compared to the Surefire quad stack magazines. Looks like the 52 rounder would make a good support for prone shooting too. Anyone used these? Doesn't seem to be much on the internet as far as reviews that I can find. Thanks for any feed back.
  21. Mick, where the heck can I buy one of these?

    Thanks much,

    Mike

  22. So really, can one really get all the copper out? I mean it seems one can almost continually run patches through a bore with copper fouling remover and forever get blue patches, even out of a new barrel with relativly few rounds through it. Where does one draw the line on this??
  23. Kyle, how far can you accurately hit with it??
