  1. Fomeister; Thanks for the input. The SDM web sight gives a 1.000" length for the sight. My stock 646 sight is about .710" long and the ramp is about .920" long. Does the SDM hang over much on your gun? Would you happen to have any pictures of it? I am a retired Machinist, Tool & Die Maker, CAD?CAM Operator and CNC programmer so I shouldn't have too much problem with the installation. I did this Delta Elite a few years back when I was building some 1911 carry guns for a local dealer's customers. http://www2.tnweb.com/justicentyme/Colt/DEL-1.jpg http://www2.tnweb.com/justicentyme/Colt/DER-1.jpg Thanks again JNT
  2. I am getting ready to replace the front sight on my 646 and have been considering the SDM and the HiViz. Any users of each and what do you think of them? Thanks JNT
  3. I bought two 646s earlier this summer, one to shoot and one to sell. I have shot two IDPA matches with one and recently sold the other one. In a recent conversation with Steve of Ranch Products he told me that he hoped to have his first run of moonclips for the 646 duriing the Thanksgiving wekend and that they would be $1 - $1.25, which is about the same cost of 610 moonclips. I have had a 625 for many years and while I really like it I personally think that it can't compare to a 646 with blance and pointability. I have never shot any real hot loads out of it so I can't comment there but I have shot some 125 grain sizzlers out of 686s and while you knew you had touched off a stout one it was never what I would call severe. Perhaps you could get someone to let you try both before you buy or just buy both and sell the one you don't like. I think they both are sellinig very well now. One thing also, they only made 900 of the 646s and have made LOTS of 610s. JNT
  4. I have never owned or even shot a Glock so I have no real experience with them. I see people who say that they avoid once fired Glock cases and have had one used brass seller say that he would sort them out if so desired. WHAT is the rerason that these cases are to be avoided? I just bought a 65# bucket (about 6200) of once fired .40 S&W cases (for $40). They are mostly Winchester with a few R-P and a very few other mixed brands. I have miked a few that were fired in GLocks and they seem to be dimensionally very close to non Glock ones. Thanks JNT
  5. Daniele, Ranch Products' phone number is 313-277-3118. Steve can normally be reached only in the evening at this number. JNT
  6. I talked with Steve at ranch products one day last week. He said he had the steel (.035") and that the drawings were at the tool maker's awaiting the die to be built. He also said that he had press time scheduled as soon as he gets the die from the shop. He was hopeful that he would be shipping in 4+ weeks. As there were only 900 646s made and his market is going to be low he anticipated that cost would be $1 - $1.25 per clip. JNT
  7. Although it requires some extra effort initially I have used a primer pocket uniforming tool with great success on my 625. Sinclair make a solid carbide one and I made a holder that fits in my power screwdriver. While this is primarily an accuracy enhancement procedure (along with deburring flash holes and other bench rest type prep) for rifles I personally feel that it pays for itself in ignition reliability in the 625. I have NEVER had a misfire in the 625 in thousands of rounds. I recently purchased 2 646s and will be uniforming the primer pockets of those cases designated for use in one of them. Once I have prepped cases for the 625 (or one of the 646s) I will keep those cases segregated and only use them in the revolvers where they will not be lost. This is a one Tyme procedure on handgun brass. Thanks JNT PS With my RL550B I have no problem seating primers solidly to full depth in any case. However, I don't mess with this procedure for anything but moonclip cases.
