  1. Well, I use that powder with a Zero 147gr. JHP started with 4.3grs. and kept going up until the gun worked and the brass went to the same place on eject. Load it as long as the mags will allow and the bullets will not hang up when the mag is fully loaded, I think its a very good powder for the 9mm. I'm getting super accuracy with this combo at 50yds.

    Taper Crimp nice and tight

  2. I came to the Cup to shoot nothing but Production. I started with a 6" S&W Model 66 with a trigger job and nothing else. The first year I finished in the top 20, then I found a nice 586 with the long barrel (8 3/8) and only had a trigger job done, nothing else. My highest finish was fourth last year in metallic and have never won production, finished 2nd twice. If you shoot a true production gun and compete against true production guns it would not be a problem, but I have seen some production guns that were all but.

My take on any match comes down to applying the rules equally, and some push the rules just to see if they can get away with it. At any time anyone wanted to see my gun no problem, but I have asked to see others and was told, to put it nice, go away.

Increase the knowledge base of the inspectors that look at the guns, give them the right to question anyone about any gun and leave the burden of proof to the shooter, if you think a gun does not qualify you can e-mail them way before the match and ask the question, they will respond, or at least they responded to me about questions concerninig PPC rules.

Production should only be limited to the gun not the shooting position, If you have a double action only auto, shoot it, if you like the match and feel you need to step up to a gun that will give you a better competive edge then do so, Action Pistol is not like IPSC or IDPA these COF are the same as in practice or the match, and you should be shooting against yourself anyway.

We can say what we want to, but shooting in matches, calling or e-mailing the director or chairman is the only real avenue we have to get the changes we want.

  3. I've got a 1050 and I always clean it after 20,000 rounds including cleaning the big bearing and re-packing it. Mine comes off the bench and get stripped down bare and then everything that needs to be greased or lubed gets it. Never had any problems but the powder slide, and thats been replaced about 6-7 times, if you take care of it it will take care of you.

  4. Hi Kim,

Glad to hear you made it out from under the knife OK, I don't think Jeff will be any ones ammo bearer.....but.......maybe you can find a cart to pull it in. I was just over at his house shooting to get ready for the Regional and State match here in Va, and he can run the timer but thats about all.

  5. I just picked up a nice 627 V-8 in 38/357, and was wondering about moon clips? Which clips are the best to use, I use Starline brass almost always. The clips that came with the gun work fine with winchester brass, they seem to hold it nice and tight so a reload is easy and fast, but the starline brass wobbles around in the clip and reloading the gun is a pain any suggestions?

  6. Sounds like typical revolver problems, don't let it get you down on the gun. Most smiths that put light triggers in revolvers put a set screw in to keep the strain screw from backing out, that way you can dial in your trigger and then set it so it stays put. As far as the ejector rod backing out, put some empty cases in the cylinder and tighten it up, just remember to check it before you go to the match.

  7. Well, shooting a off the shelf 586 with the 8 3/8" barrel, and finishing in the the top 5 at the Cup, I say a production division would be just great. Practice and timing is the key to the cup. I would like the think that the guns would be checked a little closer than they are now, so you are competing against true production guns!

  8. Well, being a Police range officer that teaches both pistol and full auto rifle, you get what you pay for. I tried the cheap ones about 85.00 and that was with a discount for bulk, and then I got a very nice set that were about $200.00 with a NR of 27 or 29 I can't remember. Spend the money for the good stuff............your hearing is not something to play with, the cheaper ones don't block as much sound and thats were the money comes in. I feel anything under a NR rating of 25 is not good for you.

  9. Hey Chuck, I've shot the cup for the last 3 years, the first year I shot a 6" model 66 I was using Zero 158 SWC with around 3.5-3.6 grs of Clays. The last 2 years I switched to a 8 3/8" 586 and I'm using the same load but with the longer barrel I could tone down the powder charge just a little, I think I chrony something like 780 fps in the long barrel. This shoots very nice I finished 5th in the Metallic sight class shooting a true Production gun with this load.
