Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I loaded up 10 of each at 5.6,5.8 and 6grs. All were set to 1.23 to 1.235. The 6 gr rounds looked like the primers were showing pressure. These were shot out of a Glock 21. Speer lists 6 grs as max seated at 1.20, Hornaday list 6.7grs as a max for the XTP seated at 1.23. I know the length of the Extreme hp is .642 the length of the hornaday is .641 or .642 .The Speer is .650 or .670 in length. I thought i would be good at 6 grs just the thought of pressure and being like .7grs away from a max charge just has me thinking. Could it be the oal at 1.23 to 1.235 with the shape of the bullet it is closer to the rifling bringing the pressure up. Should I seat these deeper to 1.21 to 1.215,Anyone loading this bullet or anyone that can give me a direction on this would be a great help. I do have 4 manuals just want to bounce it off some others that may have some time with this bullet.
  2. Another Vote for WST, 4.5 to 4.8 grs FMJRN or plated RN seated to 1.255 very nice to shoot.
  3. I also like WST,I have reloaded 230 FMJ and just moved to Berrys 230gr RN.I worked the load up from 4.4 gr to 4.8 gr seated at 1.255, very nice to shoot, low recoil and clean. I also reloaded some 230gr xtreme hp which are also plated, I loaded them with 4.5 to 4.6 gr at 1.235 same as the other soft shooting. I dont have a crono so cant help you there, 4.6 gr should give you 800fps in 5in guns ( Thanks Fredj338 ),seated to 1.255, You can go to 4.8gr as max w/ WST, makes right near ball equiv @ 1.255" w/ a 230grRNFMJ. ( Thanks Fredj338 ) Hope this helps some just as you know work the load up, stay safe
