OK, thanks
So what is the difference between the cr speed hi torque belt and the deluxe model? is it just cosmetics?
also, any insight with regard to the brass monkey belt? i kind of like the concept that it might be more easily adjustable
-
thanks everyone, its funny because i called and spoke with two different individuals there...both of whom assured me that they didn't have the appropriate mag pouches for the sti double stack....very happy i found this forum.
Now to find a belt, not sure i want the safariland belt and i've heard / read that some can't cinch it up as well as some of the competitors. want to find more info on other suggestions.
Maybe the Brass Monkey belt vs CR speed? Any thoughts or help would sure be appreciated.

i just asked a very similar question, i called safariland and apparently their 771 and 773 pouches are not double stack. at least that's what i've been able to ascertain.
-
Recently purchased a new STI trubor 38 super and purchased here a 50% off safariland coupon so thought i'd buy my stuff there and save some money.
I called Safariland, picked out the 014 holster, the els belt system 30 and 32, and then looked for magazine pouches. They told me that neither their 771 or 773 accomodate the double stack sti magazines.
Do other magazine pouches fit?
Should i just purchase the holster from them and buy a belt and pouches elsewhere...i'd sure appreciate the help. As you can tell i'm pretty new to all of this so specific recommendations would sure help.

does anyone make a stainless steel or other metal frame for the sti double stack pistols?
-
looks like a nice competition holster. hoping i can find a good sale on them somewhere.

OK, so i just purchased a STI "Gunsmith Fit" trigger......I'm embarrassed to ask but how does one go about fitting it. I feel like its time to learn. I would imagine that one polishes the gliding (outer) surfaces with a fine stone or polish and a dremmel? how about the trigger face itself, would fine sand paper do the job? I appreciate any help. thanks

I just thought that the COM holster looked like it might hold the pistol a bit more securely than the skeletonized holsters. I sure value everyone's imput and experience as this is all quite new to me.
-
I'm hoping to try my hand at open. the sti trubor should arrive shortly and i'll need a holster for it. i've been reading a bit and all the talk about pistols falling to ground is making me a bit wary of the hot competition set ups. is this a reasonable concern? what is your experience with the COM open race holster? also what is the best value out there for a belt. thanks

Buy ammo.....read and learn all you can...that's what i'm doing. Hope to get mine in a few weeks. i share your pain

Bruce has designed and built 4 custom guns for both myself and my father and I currently have 5 more for him to build or improve upon. These are pistols i've purchased from other well known smiths who's work left me wanting.
Honest and in my opinion underpriced, a brilliant artisan and craftsman. I'm very proud to call him my friend.

thanks, appreciate the help and info.

thanks everyone...i'll work on it. appreciate the advice

Hi, trying to gain more insight into the working of a 1911 and the time has come to do some routine maintenance and change some springs. Also of note, the ejected casings will occasionally just hit or skirt the top of my dominant hand and so was hoping to alter the arc of ejection as well as update aging springs.
The pistol is a used compensated 9mm 1911 pistol, new to me (not my brilliant Bruce Gray pistol) and so i have no idea how it behaved in the past or with newer springs.
I was going to order some Wolff springs but noted they offered both variable and standard spring sets.
I believe i understand that the total spring rate would be the same for the same value spring, there is a progressive incremental curve during compression of the variable spring and of course the opposite occurs during expansion of the spring.
From a practical perspective what differences might one feel when shooting? would accuracy suffer because the variable spring might yield too early? if so would one tend to err on a more powerful spring if choosing variable?
Would the initial recoil pulse tend to force the muzzle of the pistol to pivot up more than a std spring?
Also, would a more powerful spring eject the casings at a higher or lower arc?
I'd sure appreciate the insight. thanks

I recently purchased a 1911 pistol designed for metal plates, the pistol came with a C-more sight (Serendipity SL), standard not sideways mounting. I like the sight but i'm trying to figure out how best to use it.
I note that i seem to pick up the dot at the lower 1/3 of the field. I would have imagined that it would tend to appear centrally. I don't feel like i'm tilting the pistol but i guess i must be, can this be adjusted for?
I would imagine that one uses these sights with both eye's open, would closing one eye make a difference or would the sighting be the same regardless?
I'd sure appreciate any help as to how best to use/learn/adjust to the sight. thank you.

i have an old hand injury and so recoil takes its toll on me rather quickly and easily. I have Mr. Bruce Gray mount a cone shaped multipart compensator on my 9mm 1911....it made a world of difference for me. Tradeoff is its a bit longer and heavier up front but for me worth every penny spent.

i would strongly recommend Bruce Gray (www.grayguns.com). Give him a call, his work is brilliantly done

i'm a huge fan of Bruce Gray (www.grayguns.com). He's amazing, very honest, very nice, very humble and the work is perfect every time.
-
cool....yes, sorry about that, i meant blast shield...new to open pistols, still learning.
really looking forward to the pistol. anything else one might recommend as options on the pistol, don't want to go too crazy but its probably cost effective to do critical elements now rather than have to ship the pistol back.
thanks in advance. great forum by the way, learning a lot.

i have an STI Trubor in 38 super on order...hopefully just another month or two. Ordered it from Thunder Mountain, they seemed very nice to deal with. They offer a trigger tuning service along with tuned magazines, polished ramp and an extended magazine release so i opted for them as well. Wondering if people found the need to added a shield for the C-More optic?

I'm a huge fan of the compensated .45's. I was similarly warned that the compensator wouldn't make much of a difference but that hasn't been my experience. I'm terribly recoil sensitive, after a hand injury and some surgery. Bruce Gray put a comp on my 1911 and it seems to have really helped....and yes, i do think they look pretty cool as well.

thanks everyone, i would love to get an Akai but its pretty tough to get here in Ca. this is a great forum and i'm learning a lot.
-
thanks everyone, that helped a lot. i think i'm going to stick with the original mag well, do the trigger and polish work and shoot it for a while then I'll have to find out which slide racker to get and who best to install it.

Just about to put in an order for a standard STI Trubor in 38super blued. Want to try my hand at open platform. Hoped to find out what options to get or stay away from. As some background, i've been shooting production for a while and generally shoot a 2.25 lb trigger 1911 format, i'm right handed, right eye dominant.
Thought about getting the heavy STI magwell as i generally prefer a heavier gun and am a bit recoil sensitive, as well as 2 lb trigger, polished ramp, extended magazine release. Never had a slide racker, are there drawbacks to this option? I'd love to get thoughts and recommendations as to which options to get, which to stay away from, preferred brands etc. thanks
Have a Sig SS Elite 9mm...what should I do?

Bruce Gray (www.grayguns.com) would be my first call for any gunsmithing, he's great to work with, extremely knowledgeable and proficient with this format.
