  1. Nice work usmc1974 I would say this is were the 5r barrel shin over my original Savage 10 FP 24" barrel. I wish I can get the 2746 FPS out of my 308 and the 175 SMK.

Now all what you need is to stretch it and see if the calculation matches.

    Keep us posted

  2. TAC is good powder for the 223 I been using since 2008 in my 223 Wyilde chamberd 24" varmint RR upper with the 68 gr hornady match and the 69 gr SMK and for primer the CCI 400.

Very accurate powder and it meters through the powder dispenser like water.

  3. I tryed 1 pound of the 2000 MR few years ago when it first came out in the 308 pushing the 175 SMK it gave me good speed good accuracy and meter in the CM like water but I went back to Varget because back then I have a lot of it. Also you cannot beat Varget for the 308 and the 175 SMK.

Now no Varget around i am runing low on my supply I might look in to it agian or the IMR 4064

  4. Usmc in the past I heard the R5 barrel is fast but man the number you listed look on the high side.

You might want to try to use 2 chronographs in a row set the F1 first at 12 feet then the second one after see if you can borrow one from a friend.

I done that to check my F1 using my friend Ohler 35 worked good for me. F1 was high by under 15 feet during the checks.

In my 308 10 FP 24" I run the 175 SMK at about the 2620 with 43.8 gr Varget and the JBM actual drop calculation chart very close I would say under .5 MOA on the low side mainly you can see that at the 1000 yrd depend on the atmospheric conditions for that day I am shooting.

  5. If you are looking for acurate load you need to consider the twist rate on the barrel fast or slow.

For example in my 308 10 to 1 twist I use the 175 gr SMK but I shoot a lot further than 100 yrd using Varget for powder. For 11 or 12 to 1 the lighter bulet wil work but I seen some 10 to 1 twist shoot the 155 gr SMK very good at close and long range about the 700 + yrd.

So you might want to experiment with bullets.

Just my opnion no offence takin I think the 200 gr is a bet too heavy for 308 if you not planing on using it for suppressor.

  6. I tested 180 gr seated to 1.185" using 4.3 N340 in my STI 2011 installed 11 # recoil spring and Wilson blue buffer that was amazingly fast, nice and pleasant load to shoot I did not use the chrono to check the speed yet I know it should in the MP range.

Will be used in our club multi gun match only.

Sadly I run out of the N340 my only options now is CFE pistol and HP 38 so I need to start testing agian and see if I can duplicate.

  7. Congrat good choice josh.

Just take your time before you shot it and do a good cleaning of the rifle in general and the bore check the action fit and torque the action bolts.

Then if it was me I would break in the barrel if you know what I mean, or if you like take few minutes and look at Kreiger barrel web page it have good information for break in the barrel.

  8. Who manufacturer the die set you have?

Are they the same make like the 9 mm you been using with no issue?

If it is lee look on top of the die and make sure the nut is tight on the long decap pin. I recal I run in to similler issue and that was the fix.

But also you mentioned above that you replaced the de capping pin and the lee if i recall have the stem and the pin as on peice.

Did you look in and see if that die manfucterer offers different lengh pins may acxedenly got mixed up in the ?
