  1. Note for your consideration if you are considering SV: They're running at least a 13-14 month wait.

I have a year old SV Limited gun and will soon take delivery of a Single Stack gun from them. The Limited gun was 13 months and the SS should be right at about 14 months.

The Limited gun is (to me) an exceptional firearm. Coming from a history of franken guns, it is an absolute joy to shoot. Also, as mentioned, Brandon Strayer (son of Sandy) provides excellent service before and after purchase.

Lumpygravy, do you ever shoot out at Richmond? I would love to take a look at your Limited gun.

  2. The 2 big companies in the sport are STI and SVI. Strayer Tripp and Strayer Voigt. Strayer being part of both, they both hold the patent to the 2011 so they tend to be referred to as S_I.

Looking at your list-- SVI is Infinity. The other builders customize one or the other, or both to give you a completed gun. Once the build is done you would be hard pressed to have a hands down winner of best pistol between any of the major builders. It will come down to personal preferences.

Your explanation was very helpful, Thank You!
  3. Let me start by saying I know Jack and Sh%t about 2011 style guns. I'm a Glock and XDM C class shooter. I'm ready to make the move to limited with a 2011. I would like to get a .40 - 6" with a 5" top end as well to shoot once a month in ESP. All other weekends it is USPSA. I'm in Northern California and assume I would have to do a Single Shot Exemption or buy one used PPT. Here's what I am looking at in no particular order. Any input for this rookie would be greatly appreciated. I've done tons of searches here and will try to shoot some others guns at local matches ( Sac Valley, Davis and Richmond) Thanks for the help.

  4. I ran the Tac30 for a year then switched to the MTAC. I have been running it for over 2 years now and could not be happier. Until to cross the $1000 threshold, nothing beats the MTAC for three gun.

I run mine with a MGM Switchview in a JP mount and it is the set-up I recomend to everyone. You could swap out the JP mount for a Warne or LaRue and be equally as happy.

Would you recommend the 1x4 or the 1.5x6 MTAC?

my eyes are terrible, that"s why I'm asking...thanks

  5. I had the same problem shooting 9mm's vs. .45's. I shot the .45's way better. For me, shooting the .45 was masking fundemental problems. Once I started taking my shooting serious and started not only shooting a match every weekend, but lots of range time and dry fire practice, my shooting improved by 10 fold. Then my 9's became the "go to" guns and the .45's now reside in the safe. Not only does the reduced recoil help with follow up shots, but the price of 9mm reloading components is a heck of a lot cheaper as well. I have since changed from my Glock 34's to a XDM 5.25 in 9mm and couldn't be happier! I love this gun. I had Daniel at Powder River Precision do his competition 2.5# trigger and it is like night and day from stock. I have had a great experience with everyone at PRP. Also changed the front sight to a slimmer .100" Dawson FO front sight. SS guide rod, 16# recoil spring and some grip tape. PRP does great work. I have also heard nothing but great things about Rich at Canyon Creek and Scott at Springer Precision as well. All Top notch guys with great customer service. Good luck and practice, practice and practice!

  6. I'm leaning towards the OAL being too short as well. I'm running at 1.145" and had 2-3"" groups at 20 yards at our local USPSA match last weekend. I am shooting a heavier bullet (147 Xtreme plated over 3.5 VV N320) but is is out of my XDM 5.25 9mm also with a 16# spring and runs flawless. I also loaded up some Xtreme plated 124's at the same length, was very pleased with grouping at the range as well. Was running drills at 10 yards.

  7. Ok, so I have decided to venture into 3 gun and just built my first AR. I am taking some Carbine classes first since I only shoot USPSA and IDPA now. The classes require a sling. Based on my research here, I have decided on the VTAC Upgraded sling. My question is, what type of connectors do I need to attach the sling?? I have a quad rail up front and a collapsable stock. On the VikingTactics website they are all out of connectors. I see something called "Q.D. quick detach push button sling swivel with base" on Amazon for under $8 and and Troy Industries Q.D. 360 push button rail mount with swivel" for $35? Then for the stock I am assuming I need some kind of push button something or other? Do I need something to accommodate 1" or 1.25"? OR do I just buy the "VTAC Larue sling" that apparently comes with the attachments needed? I know these are a lot of "Rookie" questions but I need to get everything here by 2/1/2013 so I need to get it right the first time in one order. Any hep would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
