gavagai, the only 9mm bullet that will make major in Limited and L10 is a .357SIG. It's just the rules, don't try to make sense out of them.

I disagree. Minimum bullet caliber for Major in both Limited and L10 is .40.  If you are going to shoot 9 Major you'll have to do it in Open.

  2. What Jack said...

It could also be COL and/or crimp.  I have seen factory ammo with insufficient crimp causing rounds to hang up.  I have seen factory ammo vary greatly in COL with long rounds hanging up.  Just because it is factory ammo doesn't mean rounds are identical.  1911's have the most trouble eating hollow points.

A person put a paster on his magazine opening, it was determined to be an illegal modification to a production gun (aiming aid for reloads). Nothing was related to his walk through / inspection of the course of fire.

I wasn't there when it happened but Kevin relayed the story to me directly, rather passionately :) .

I stand corrected.  I understood the bump to Open was related to the walkthrough.

A special Thank You to Kevin Mayfield, who I showed how to be bumped from single stack to open division with one small paster.

I recall hearing this and if I remember correctly the rules don't support a bump to open.  Rule 8.7.2 seems to cover the events as I recall them.

    1. 8.7.2  Competitors are prohibited from using any guns or gun replicas as sighting aids while conducting their inspection (“walkthrough”) of a course of fire. Violations will incur one procedural penalty per occurrence (also see Rule 10.5.1).

Thanks for the kind words folks.  My Team of staff did a fantastic job making my vision a reality.

I learned a lot from this match about how to make it even better for next year.

    Yes they did.

Does this mean 2017 Area 8 will be held at Ontelaunee?  Yippee.

    What are the dates?

Springs are one of the cheapest replacement parts out there. Why on earth wouldn't you proactively replace them every 3 - 6 months just to be safe? You can use components to failure and throw away a match because of it, or you can proactively replace parts to keep your guns and gear running 100% reliable.

I probably replaced and thrown away more magazine springs in a single year than most shooters do in 10 years. Some people may think this is excessive, but those same people also wonder why my gun magically never jams.

yes, buy the ismi/wolf/grams springs in the 10 packs. change them twice a year and you'll never have an issue. they are not that much $$ that it's worth scrimping on. mags and ammo cause probably 90% of malfuctions on competition guns.

You guys should keep in mind that some of us shoot for the enjoyment of the sport/game, realize that we will never win a match and need to cut costs where ever we can.

Changing mag springs every 3-6 months without regard for use is like changing the oil in your car every 3 months when you only drive 100 miles a week.

I change mag springs when I begin to experience failures.

IDK, just know I had 30 penalty points don't I might have dropped one other shot, so I assume 5+5 for each failed engagement.   It could have been scored wrong, that is not too uncommon either

2 mikes and 1 procedural is thirty points.  They are 10 points each.

I have been out of competition pistol shooting for 21 years.  Upon a recent return, I agreed to do some score keeping.  We finished up one stage and were moving to the second stage.  I realized that I forgot to do the totals on the score cards, and failed to study the next stage.  I thought I had it all figured out and my name was drawn as the first shooter.  I felt really rushed and should have asked to be bumped back in the shooting order.  In my quick walk thru I failed to notice one target, that from one shooting position showed white (i.e. NO SHOOT) and from another  you get the other side being a shoot target.   So you can guess that I never engaged what I thought was a no shoot.   2 Mikes 2 Procedurals Ouch.

Take your time.  Unless you are truly amazing, you will not get rich doing this, it is just a hobby.  Be safe.

Why two Procedurals?  The rulebook tells us that the scenario you describe should be two mikes and one procedural for Failure to Engage.  Unless you are talking about something besides USPSA.

  9. Obviously newer shooter. Getting better, but still really struggling with longer stages with 20+ targets ESPECIALLY when some are only seen in one or two angles. Leaving poppers unshot, getting 4A hits on one paper and none on another.... In some cases, my "plan" confused targets and called for double engaging and failing to engage because moving past barriors and differing angles messes me up.

I just can't figure out how to keep it all straight!

And the advice to "just remember it", isn't working so well. Lol.

As a geezer myself, this is why I choose to shoot Single Stack Major. I don't have to count past 8 before a reload and most of the time it works out well.

Shoot these four targets first, move to there while reloading, shoot those four target... Lather, rinse and repeat.

If you are getting old and your memory is fading, maybe you're shooting the wrong division.
