  1. Looks like a new JM runs about 600 bucks so I will take 500 for my 930 Waterfowler build if interested....and it has a Light Modified choke instead of Improved Modified as previously posted......Thanks
  2. Huge thread is right....it has to be pushing some kind of record for the longest thread ever.....lol I am selling my 930 if anyone is interested.....It is the Waterfowler with the 24" nonported barrel from Mossberg....9+1 Choate extensio and competition bolt handle......Briley Improved Modified Choke.....opened up the feed port.....asking 600 bucks....mssg me for pics if interested.....I have some pics already posted on this massive thread.....somewhere
  3. Hello folks.....If any of you are still reading this massive post and looking for a Mossberg 930.....I am thinking of selling mine.....It is a 930 Waterfowler that I purchased last christmas.....I added a 24" non-ported barrel that I special ordered from Mossberg....A 9+1 Choate magazine extension.....Yea, I know everyone wants Nordic, but, truthfully, I have never had any problems with the half dozen choate extensions I have used and this one works flawlessly as well......I also added a extended Light Modified Briley choke and Choate Combat bolt handle.....Needless to say I have a lot more in this gun than what you can currently purchase a JM model for.....I will take $500 for the gun plus whatever it costs to ship it to your ffl.....I don't have the original 28" barrel that came with the gun.....I sold it shortly after getting the 24"......Oh, I have added some FO sights from Dick's....they work pretty good but nothing fancy.......see the pictures below and mssg me any questions.....Thanks Rob
  4. Woohoo!!!....finally got all my 3 gun gear together....Mossberg 930 with choate 9+1 extension and clamp, choate bolt handle, Tru-Glo FO front sight, and opened up the poading port.....S&W M&P Pro Series 9mm 5" Pistol with no mods yet....S&W M&P 15 with no mods yet.....Double Alpha Belt, California Competiton Works 4 shell caddies, Bladetec M&P holster that I got (FREE) with my 9mm range and carry kit, HSGI Taco pistol and rifle mag pouches (these are great...they will work with any rifle or pistol mags AK, AR, 308 Magpuls, double stack, single stack, etc.)...Gonna get a 8 round 3 gun gear side saddle for the shotgun and I think I will be ready to roll....Now, just need somewhere around Dothan, Alabama to shoot.....suggestions will be appreciated......Thanks
  5. Hey folks...been a while since I was on.....got wrapped up in other things and had to take a break from my shotgun project. But, I finally finished my 930 build and wanted to post some pics. I started with a 930 waterfowler paid $525.....then I bought a 24" non-ported barrel from Joe at Mossberg another $170....Just added the Choate 9+1 extension and Choate bolt handle and a Briley light modified extende choke tube for another $107 bucks.....so, now I am into it for $802.....Wish I had known about the JM model when I started but I had already bought the waterfowler....No biggie though...part of the fun is in the build for me....Anyway, it turned out great...I know I will get several folks saying I should have gotten the Nordic tube.....But, i have used Choate in the past and had no problems and needed to save money wherever I could....When I first put the Choate tube on, it was hanging up about 3 shells from the end hand cycling.....I pulled the spring and bent the end going into the follower and now have np problems hand cycling....Haven't had a chance to fire it yet...gonna do that this weekend....wish me luck and here are the pics.
  6. Hey guys...I finally got my 24" non-ported barrel from mossberg....I haven't had much chance to shoot it....I have put abot 50 slugs thru it with a modified choke and the only issue so far is the POI is to the left of the POA using the crappy clip on fiber optic sight that came with the barrel....Any suggestions on a better sight system...Maybe something windage adjustable....Also, some folks asked about buying my 28" ported barrel that came with the 930....I thought I might keep to swap out for bird hunting....But, it is too much trouble.....So, if anyone is still interested, I will take $100 bucks for it plus whatever it costs to ship it.....just mssg me and let me know....thanks
  7. Finally got my barrel from Mossberg saturday. Couple of issues out of the box. It came with only one XX Full Turkey choke instead of the accu-choke set like I was told it would. Not a huge deal since I already have a full set of accu-chokes from the gun purchase. However, I was told that the price I paid for the barrel was because it included the imp cyl, modified, and full chokes. Secondly, the clip-on FO sights are crap. The rear sight was misisng the adjustment screw and the front sight slides back and forth on the rib. I just took the rear sight off completely and use the front sight like a bead after I got it tighted up enough not to move. I tested it out with slugs using a imp cyl choke since I don't have my light modified yet. I was happy to say that at 50 yds my verticle POA and POI was almost dead on. However, the horizontal POA and POI was about 2 to 3 inches off to the left. After I compensated for this, I was easily busting gallon milk jugs full of water at 50 yds. The horizintal problem is probably due to the front sight and not the barrel. Overall, I am satisfies with the barrel. But, the lack of organization at Mossberg is a little troubling. But, I guess we probably won't need to worry too much about there customer service since it seems that most of us are grinding and bendingand welding our brand new 930s right out of warranty anyway....lol
  8. Well, I am glad to hear that at least some of you are getting your barrels from Mossberg. Sent Joe an e-mail yesterday and got an auto-reply back that he is out of the office until Monday. Called Mossberg today and was told by Veronica that it hadn't shipped and that she would "see if they could locate my barrel" and ship it today. She took my phone number and said she would call me when it ships. I am not expecting a call today. Very much wishing I had just waited on the Miculek 930 since it looks like it will be out about the time I get my barrel.
  9. At this price they are going to sell a $%#@ load of them. Suddenly feeling like a fool...lol....I'll have $645.00 in my 930 if I ever get the barrel from Mossberg and I haven't even ordered the extended tube yet....crap!! Should have just waited on these.
  10. If you don't mind me asking, when did you order yours? Thanks, Rob
  11. I used Steve Rose at Rose Action Sports (he was recommended on this thread). He charged $90 for cutting, rethreading the choke, rethreading for the bead, and shipping back. The work looks good. I have not shot it since I got it back (maybe next weekend). I shot a couple of boxes through it before getting it cut. It ran like a champ and only messed up when I messed up. jrmock Wish I had taken this route. I have been waiting almost 2 months for my 24" non-ported barrel from Mossberg that cost me or will cost me 160.00 if they ever ship it. Sent a e-mail to Joe yesterday and he responded quickly sayin gthat the barrel was ready and being inspected and that it would ship today. Crossing my fingers but not holding my breath.
  12. I would say my new 930 cycles about 98% of the time when I do it by hand. I have also noticed that if I have the buttstock against my leg or abdomen when I cycle the bolt, that it causes it to lock and not cycle. And to the question earlier about hitting the bolt release to hand cycle. DO NOT hit the bolt release if the bolt is locked back without a shell on the carrier. This will cause the shells to dump from the tube (a double feed) and it is a pain to get them back in the tube. I have only fired about 50 rounds with no probs at all. I have done practice loading drills every day for 30 min since getting the gun. So, I have probably loaded and cycled the bolt about 1500 times in just doing this alone. I would get the failure to hand cycle prob maybe 3 or 4 times during a trainig session. When it happens, first I make sure I didn't try to cycle with the buttstock held up against me (that is usually the case), then I just snatch the bolt handle back very hard and it usually cycles first try. I talked to several gunsmiths about this prob when I had it with my Remi. They all said the same thing. That no one can hand cycle with the speed and force of a firing shotgun and that hand cycling would never be 100% reliable on a semi-auto because of this. I did not exactly agree with that at first either. I have a Browning Special 12 that as someone else stated, you can't stop it from cycling if you pull the bolt back no matter how slow or soft you do it. But, aside from that particular gun, every other semi-auto I have used would not always cycle by hand.
  13. I am no expert...But as far as the last problem of the bolt locking open with the shell on the carrier, I had the same thing with a Remi one time...I had cut the mag spring down too much. So, there was not enough force behind the last shell to trip the bolt release. Looks like you may have cut too far on the srping. As far as the other problems, If you are experiencing all of this from hand cycling dummy rounds. I would suggest doing your spring and tube mods at the range where you can test by firing live rounds. Every semi-auto I have ever had has been finicky about hand cycling including my new 930. You have to do it with the right amount of speed and force every time or it doesn't work right. I have encountered the double feed issue and it usually occurs when speed loading and not getting the shell far enough to catch in the tube like it should. Opening the loading port on my 930 has made the double feed non-existent. The only idea I have about the rounds not ejecting is you may have used the dummies to the point that the edges of the shell are worn or dinged and not allowing the ejector to catch like it should. That's just a theroy, though.
  14. I am partial to the beads too. My 870 is dead on with slugs and the beads, at least out to 50 yds. Never failed to bust a milk jug full of water yet...
  15. Hey all. Just a little update on ordering my 24" non-ported barrel and experience with my 930 so far. I just ordered my 24" barrel today. I sent Joe a e-mail sunday with all my information except for payment info. A rep called Monday while I was out and left a message confirming my order and even gave me a description of what I was getting and a order number. I called back Tuesday because they were closed when I got the message on Monday. I gave the order number left in the message and they pulled it right up and took my payment info. I was told I should receive my barrel in 7 to 15 days. Since sending my first e-mail to Joe, I have seen the most organazation in this process with Mossberg. Now, as far as the sight issue I am reading about now, I will have to wait until I get my new barrel to check out POI compared to POA on slugs. However, I can tell you that as far as clay shooting goes with the 28" waterfowler barrel, I love it. I was shooting clays Saturday that were thrown from a Do-All white wing automatic thrower. If you have any experience with these, you know they throw the clays at super fast speed. I had no probs busting these zippers with cheapo Walmart Federal bulk 2 3/4" 8 shot shells. The gun cycled flawlessy and my clay shooting buddies were all very intrigued with my 3-gun belt and the way I was weak hand reloading from the shell caddies.....lol. I am happy with the 28" barrel as far as accuracy goes for a shotgun barrel and overall very happy with the 930. Gonna see what kind of hassel I will be in for to swap barrels back and forth between the 24" for multi-gun and the 28" for clays and birds. The problem may be in taking the mag extension on and off. If that proves to be too much of a hassel, I will prob sell the 28" barrel as mentioned before and just keep my 1100 for birds and clays. If it doesn't prove to be too difficult swapping the 930 barrels, then I will prob just keep the 28" barrel and sell the 1100 to make more room in the gun cab for another AR...lol....As soon as my new barrel and extension gets here, and I have time to test everything out, I will let those of you who have expressed an intrest in buying the 930 barrel know what I decide....Thanks for you patience.....Merry Christmas and Good Shooting. Oh...and to keep those of you who are seeing this thread for the first time from having to read all the way back thru it, this is Joe's e-mail at Mossberg. Zakher Joseph <JZakher@maverickarms.com>
  16. I may be interested in selling the 28" barrel off of mine. Gonna try it out on clays this weekend against my 1100. If it does as well as my 1100, I am probably gonna keep it and sell the 1100. If not, I am gonna keep the 1100 for clays and bird hunting and just sell the mossy barrel. If I decide to sell it, does 100 bucks sound ok?...PM me if you are interested. Thanks, Rob
  17. Thanks for the pics. From this, I think I will go with the Nordic +5 for 9+1. That should keep the extension a little shorter than the barrel.
  18. Just did some reload drills to compare and see if I could really load the 930 faster than my 1100 with a competition master carrier. I have had over a years worth of practice with the 1100 so I am used to having to hit the bolt relase with the shell. On the intitial run I started with the 1100 with a closed bolt. I was dissappointed to find that I was considerably faster with the 1100. My next run was loading from bolt lock and again I started with the 1100. Again, I was faster w/ the 1100. But, only slightly. The next run, I started with the 930 and a closed bolt. Guess muscle memory was starting to shift towards the 930 because I was way fater than any previous runs. Next, started with the 930 again at bolt lock. And again way faster than the 1100. I was starting to see a trend and was getting happier. I went thru the drills about 30 time alternanting between starting with the 930 and the 1100. The first two runs where I started with the 1100 were the only two that 1100 was faster. All the other runs afer the first two, I was faster with the 930 and getting better with each run. By the last run, there was no doubt that I could relaod the 930 over 1.5 times faster than I could the 1100. I could definatley start see that having to cencentrate on hitting the bolt release with each shell on the 1100 was slowing me down. I just wanted to share this with any other folks that have a 1100 and are thinknng about changing to a 930. My vote is definately change. Now to why I am really posting. I noticed that most of you are suggesting to go with the Nordic extenension over the Choate. I have a Choate 8+1 on my 870 and have never had an issue. So, is there some issue with Choate's extensions on semi-autos and are Nordics really that much better. Also, I have seen suggestions to go with a 10+1 extension as opposed to the 8+1 for lower spring tension on reloads and to allow for more rounds after the buzzer and for outlaw matches. My question here is, will a 10+1 stick out past the 24" barrel on the 930? My 8+1 sticks out about 1/2" past my 21" barrel on the 870. Doesn't hurt but, I would prefer it not to stick out past the end of the barrel. Thanks, Rob
  19. I gave a friend the info and he emailed the supervisor listed in this thread last monday. He had a reply within 30 minutes, and a phone call within the hour to take his order. Do you have the exact model number you ordered? It was the matte, non-ported 24" turkey barrel? Emailed Joe at mossberg JZakher@maverickarms.com and he responded in less than 30 minutes with the following. We do offer the 930 24in accu choke barrel in matte black. It will come with a choke set and fiber optic sights $150.00 +$10.95 s/h. I have the price set up with the choke set. 16975MTFO is the part number. At the moment we processing more as I don't have any on hand. The two month time period is more than enough time but I give myself time to get a size order in. To which I responded: Joe, I want to place a order for this barrel. What is the number I need to call to do so. Thanks, Rob And the reply: Pass me your number and a sales rep will take care of you. Haven't had a chance to send my info to him yet. Will do Monday.
  20. David, Just finished grinding the loading port on my brand new, never fired shotgun per your advice...lol.. It worked beautifully. Loads just like my Remi now (of course w/out having to hit the release button w/ each shell). Timed myself loading 4 rounds from 4 round caddies (don't have my extension yet) and was slightly faster than my best Remi load. I am a happy camper. My dremel work isn't quite as pretty as yours. But, it got the job done. Thanks again for the help. Rob
  21. Same here. I just picked mine up from the FFL, and admittedly I haven't read a single thing from the box yet. First thing I tried to do was load some dummy rounds and I ran into the same problems you did, coming from a Remington 1100 as well. It does look like the rounds need to be pushed in a bit more to pass the shell stop. Next think I tried to do was remove the plug and ran into that spring retainer under the cap. Nothing in the manual about removing it... time to Google. IIRC just pull it straight out, its a two piece deal on the spring retainer. Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk There's stuff to read in the box?.....lol....jk...I have taken the gun almost completely apart and cleaned and oiled everything. Didn't mess with the mag tube yet. Waiting to get my extension.
  22. I was thinking the same about the welded lifter as it is quite difficult to get the shells back in as is. I would have rather just had the one barrel and covered the ports to save money if I had thought that was a viable option. But, since it's not to difficult to swap the barrels, and I have already bought the gun with the 28" barrel, I'll prob just buy the 24" for competition and maybe gobblers and swap to the 28" for clays, dove, and ducks. If the 930 can cover all my semi-auto shotgun needs, I can sell my Remi and recoup some of the money and make room in the safe for another gun...lol
  23. Thanks David. I love what you did w/ your 930. Wish I had seen your thread before I purchased. I would have gotten the 24" Turkey and covered the ports. Wasn't sure if that would be USPSA legal though. I got the 28" waterfowler. Guess I'm gonna buy the 24" non-ported barrel from Mossberg. Finally got in touch w/ someone there who is resopnsive and seems to know what they are talking about. Gonna sell my Remi 1100 and let the 930 do double duty as my competition gun and bird gun. Makes my wife nervous when I break out the dremel on a brand new gun...lol....guess I'll modify the port when she's not home. Rob
  24. OK. Today is the first chance I have had to really mess around with my new 930. I like it pretty good but do have one small issue. It seems like I have to shove my thumb half way into the mag tube when loading in order to get the shells to catch on the shell catch. If I load like I am used to with my Remi, the shells will catch on the lifter and feel like they are in. But, when you load the next couple of rounds, everything will come spitting back out at you. I know about using the bolt release to dump shells and I am not hitting the bolt release button as I load. It just feels like the shell catch is too far up causing me to have to push the shells further than I am used to. It has slowed my reloads down quite a bit. Is this normal for the 930 and something I will jusyt have to practice and adjust to or is there some kind of fix to make it so I don't have to actually stick the entire tip of my thumb in the mag tube to load. Thanks, Rob
  25. I gave a friend the info and he emailed the supervisor listed in this thread last monday. He had a reply within 30 minutes, and a phone call within the hour to take his order. Do you happen to have the supervisor's name and e-mail address? I am still not getting any response from Nora after 3 e-mails. was planning to call tomorrow. I got my 930 today. Didn't have too much time to play with it, but like what I see so far. It is much lighter than my Rem 1100. - Rob Oh, a little off subject. But, since everyone is torturing me with their super deals on the 930, I have to share my black friday deal. Walked out ot Dick's with a Remington 700 ADL Varmint in 308 for $311.00 including tax after sale price, coupons, and rebates. Makes me not feel so bad about my 930.....
