  1. That's looking like what I'll have to do. Seems all the shooting is over that way. Long drive but it might be a nice weekend trip.
  2. Not sure of a range in Columbus. I'm about 80 miles east of there. I can actually just shoot it at my house. Nice thing about living in the country.
  3. Right at 5 hours. That makes for a long day, lol. Anyone know of any closer? Especially if we could get to shoot some of them.
  4. Could anyone give me advise as to how to best get to hold some different cz weapons over the next couple months. Trying to get a better idea of what I'd like, but tough just looking online. I'm in SE Ohio, willing to travel at least a few hours drive.
  5. God I remember that. Funny story. We had just turned in all of our old M60 tanks to get the new M1A1 Abrams Tank. When they were first issued they had no catseye lights. (Very small lights front and back, you can't see with them but at least in convoy you can be seen.) We go on night convoy with 100+ tanks in a line. As an M88 operator I was at the rear of the convoy. All you heard was bang, bang, bang, all the way. They slinky ran into each other a hundred times. By the time we got to the gunnery range we had torched off every fender on every tank. They couldn't see each other in the dark and just pounded the crap out of each other. Amazing some of the stuff that was forgotten on those first versions.
  6. Lol, back then I was young enough I don't think I did sleep. I can wink them both now, but The girls still don't come running. Kind a look like Popeye. I yam what I yam.
  7. Could be like me, LE dominant, but my right eye has much better vision. Sucks. I have always had trouble as well. Growing up I simply shot everything left handed. From bows to muzzleloaders to the M16. Had trouble with the muzzleloader, especially flintlock, as you got sprayed by flash powder. Had trouble with the M16 by brass hitting you. The Army would not issue a brass deflector to a right handed soldier. My only solution was to shoot right handed and learn to shoot right eyed. I always felt that the weapond simply didn't line up the same when you crossed over. Makes no sense, but that's what it always seemed like. Now the big problem was I couldn't wink my left eye. I taped it closed for a few days which stretched the muscles out enough to close it some, but I still ain't winning no beauty contest winking.
  8. Sure did! You get my email? Yes I did. I also have places to shoot. Depending on what happens this winter I've either got 25 acres or 2 acres to shoot on (long story) I also spoke to Tom Rayner who has given me some pointers on how to get started. The boys should be home in the next few weeks and I'd like to get the chance to let them do some shooting. Wil be looking for gun advise and shooting (indoor) range advise. Thanks for your help so far.
  9. David, wanted to make sure you got my pm.
  10. I think he's went a long way towards quelling some of the animal extremists with his public approval of all this. Tough to challenge him when it comes to love of animals.
  11. So far I've been pleasantly suprised that all I've heard from everyone is they did the right thing. Hard to believe some of these people are actually using common sense. Very good post.
  12. I certainly trust the sheriff did the right thing based on what I know. I just keep thinking about "second hand lions".
  13. I was going to make a bad joke about big game hunting, but I got a feeling not one of the guys out there saw sport in shooting any of those animals. At least for me half tame, half starved sick animals is not what I would want in a big game hunt.
  14. Rayner's is the one my wife, son and I went to last weekend. I would very much like to get in touch with as many people as possible who can get me started off on the right foot in this sport. Any assistance would be appreciated.
  15. Will have to look into them more. Definitely Zanesville. Right next door. Got alot to learn before I get there though. Hopefully I can gain enough info to be dangerous by spring.
  16. I must say though, that the five of them (now four) are a breath of fresh air when it comes to accepting responsibility for their own actions, and not passing the buck. Something you don't see everyday, especially on tv. One of them said last night, I could have avoided being in a position to be eliminated, all I had to do was shoot better. Nice
  17. I'd be North of you. Cambridge, up in Guernsey County. My second oldest son is finishing his masters at OU right now. My two youngest start this winter.
  18. Hello, New wannabe shooter in Southeast Ohio. I'm the father of 4 sons. Youngest 2 just graduated from basic training, and really enjoyed shooting. They've asked me to look more into it. Took my wife and 2nd oldest son down to a match last weekend and they really enjoyed it. (Except the wind was cold as &%#$^). So this may turn into a true family affair. I've got a enough land to set me up a decent practice range, so there's that. My thoughts at the moment, since money is tight, is to learn as much as I can between now and early spring. Get the wife some place that she can shoot some and figure out what she can handle. We are all small framed people, so leaning towards 1911 9mm. One reason is I have a 22lr in 1911 frame, which I would assume (we know what that does) would assist in practicing on the cheap. For now I'll let her decide on the caliber so we can get baptised as cheap as possible. None of my kids ever shot much. As for me, hunting and Army were really my only experience. I know nothing about competition shooting, so any help would be appreciated. If there's some expert in Southeast Ohio that wants to take me under their wing, you have my permission. Thanks ahead of time. Have been reading the forums for a while, and it looks like a pretty nice place to learn.
