Please say there is video of you falling off the stool.
Nope. ::grin::

I'm one of those people who had the plastic primer follower rod twisted into a pigtail and stuck in the ceiling of my garage when my 1050 blew a bunch of primers. Glad you are OK and got replacement parts.
My primer following rod is steel. One of the old ones with a real weight on it. It can flying out to be sure but didn't make it to the ceiling.

The large swage rod should have caught that problem in station 3. It serves as a primer pocket probe to check for a spent primer and/or a small primer case when loading large primers. When the point of the large swage rod doesn't fit in the small primer pocket, it will not let the toolhead bottom out on the shellplate and you know then there is a problem you need to check out. When that happens, first thing I check is station 3.I was loading 45 ACP with what I thought was a bag of large primer only brass. What I found after dissassembling the press was that a piece of small primer brass made its way into the press.
Great idea and one I will implement immediately. Of course it is so simple I will now beat myself up for not thinking of it before the incident.

Hey mizer. What happened? Did you buy them? If so are they awesome?

In case anyone was wondering I ordered the replacement parts including a replacement primer shield and it came to just under 100$. Not sure if I could get away with reusing the shield.... No need to risk it for 55$ just
Not worth it. If the shield fails with 100 primers in it you have a fairly effective grenade.
Cheers.
I am going to sort my 45 brass again.

If you use only small primer brass and a large primer case slips in, the small primer will just fall out.
Agreed and I do load the SPP brass in 45 as well. When you hit a LPP piece loading small primers it isn't that big of a deal.

Ok so the emberising side of the story. The primers all went off at once in one VERY loud pop. I fell off the stool I load on into the floor. My reloading room is on the second story of out home so it was pretty dramatic sound for my wife who was down stairs watching TV. After she yelled a few times about what the **** happened she admitted she thought I shot myself. Loud bang followed by my body hitting the floor I can see why she thought it could have happened that way.
I am headed back up to see what parts I have to order next week to get things back running again.

The entire tube of primers detonated but the outer tube held and very little shrapnel got out of the press.
The primer rod was launched out of the machine but didn't stick in the ceiling like some reports I have seen.
Overall damage is VERY minor. I will have to replace the primer tube for sure and perhaps even the outer tube. But that is likely the end of it.
If I didn't hate small primer 45 brass before I certianly do now.
A couple of the more descriptive pics attached.

Good evening Benoverse.
The first thing I want to say is Thank God I was wearing eye protection. Did I get hit in the face? nope but I certainly could have.
After 31 years of reloading and reloading on the SAME RL1050 since 1995 I had a primer detonation that ignited the tube of primers. I am not sure how many actually went off as the tube is fused but it was at least 5. I have neat pictures I will post tomorrow after I get them off my Iphone. Tonight I am going to have a drink or 4.
Wear your safety glasses ladies and gentleman.
I have a buddy that lost an eye to something stupid not unlike reloading without safety glasses. . .

I load on a mid 90's RL 1050 with way more handle pulls then I can count. It is still running fine with normal maintenance.
I think I agree with rjacobs if there is no major rebuild then sounds like a fair deal doe dedicated presses. I do know that here on Benos they won't last long at that price. However check them over carefully as the bearing rebuild kit is in the 300$ range alone. I want one but don't need it yet so I haven't bought one....
Good luck and let us know what you do and how it works out.

Dude we have all been there. Only difference for me is that I did it long enough ago to pack 2x the expected ammo for every match. At least that way I don't get weirded out about missing as much.
Of course those that shoot with me realize I miss too much [emoji2]

Is that for the RL1050 also. If so, I need one.We redesigned the case feed cam well over a year ago.
Here here. I need a few.

Stick with OEM parts. The after market stuff tends to be just slightly out of speck. However I do not think that is your problem currently. It will likely be next time.
It looks like you are running a large case feed plunger where .40 requires a medium case feed plunger. I know it seems pricy to buy the Dillion conversion but in the long run it will be worth it.
Good luck and let us know if I am right about the case feed plunger.

Similar experience today although I didn't talk to Dennis. I talked to Larry and he too did a fine job for me. He was on the ball knew his parts and even cracked a joke or two in the process.
I do think the learning curve on the new software is tough to handle but even through the new buttons and challenges Larry was great to work with.
As always
Thanks Dillon

You are correct in both counts. There is no decap per in the trim die but the rod through the top of the die worked. I have the stick case removed.
I used an old drill bit that just barely fit through the opening of the case mouth. Couple decent whacks with a 2lb hammer and bam it was out.
I did go ahead and order the spare die today, never know when it will be needed.

Well guys my cable provider annoyed me over the weekend with poor service and an we don't need you attitude. AT&T Uverse will be installed in a week. Total cost for the best packages available will be 115$ / month for another year.
We will see what they do for us in a year when their 80$ per month discounts expire.
Cheers

Thanks DEP44
I need a spare die anyway. This is the one an old friend resurrected from a rusty grave in the first place. Dillon will get a call today.
I have an RCBS stuck case removal tool that has served me well back before I went blue. But since I converted to Dillon in 1995 I haven't stuck a case.
Case is in the freezer soaking in oil. Perhaps tonight or tomorrow night I will make another attempt. I will let you guys know what happens.

Of course it had to happen in the trim die. The one die I do not stock a duplicate of.
Any advice on removal?
I did try taping (Hammering) it out with a rod but alas it didn't work.
How did it happen you ask? Well let's just say 223 brass requires lube.

My first year triple play deal with charter just ran out. But I have to have high speed internet for work.
You obviously kept the internet.
What made you dump cable? For me it is the cost.
We have all three of the streaming providers as well. Hulu Netflix and amazon.

There is a very straight forward kit to remove the series 80 plunger. I believe that brownells has them in stock.
I did it for my para P-16.

I run all brass thru my custom built sizer..... up to 3k per hour. You won't size the and base using the stander sizing dies from any manufacturer.
You have to either "roll size" or "push thru size".
My sizer takes care of the "bulge" and rim.
What kind of sizer do you have?
As for the OP your advice thus far is correct. Either roll size or push through size are the only way to guarantee range or glocked brass will gauge. For me I push through sized for a few thousand rounds and then found a case pro used. Now all I use the push through die for is a stand.

It's an old pistol with the plastic grips. I bought a steel grip and had it installed.
Local build in the Philippines

I suspect that there is a fitting issue that contributed to the forces on the trigger guard not being square. I suspect that even after you weld it that it will crack again in a similar place if the fitting issue is not resolved.
Let us know what happens.

Jason, who built the gun?

That is very true I didn't post the entire parts order.
I put together a list and chatted with Bob in sales and IIRC here is the list
Primer tube(s)
Primer Shield
Primer cap (Blue and Red)
Primer cap nut (Top of the primer shield)
Some of the items that I did not order but were considered
Primer Slide After clean up it was fine.
Rubber for the primer slide - I had a bunch of heater hose already
Everything else was undamaged just dirty.
