  1. At our Club in Australia, IPSC, the first time shooters are all told to introduce themselves to the RO at each stage and mention that this is their first event. Makes for a good result all around. I know I felt a little more relaxed knowing that the RO understood my jumpiness was nerves and not my natural state.

Similar here in Lexington, Kentucky at a local range. If it is your first time, you get a bright green score sheet. A little embarrasing at first but brings you a lot of patience and understanding from your squad and RO/SO. Also, kind of cool when you have a good run, you get lots of compliments.

  2. I agree with what bruised lee says.

Before I bought my last pistol, I spent a long afternoon at a local range. I brought my 1911 and my wife's Beretta 92 for comparison. I shoot the 92FS well, but did not want to end up with that as a Production comp gun if I could help it. I really wanted to end up shooting a Gen3 Glock 17 or 34.

I tried the Glock, and could not figure out how to shoot it accurately. I'd pick up the 1911 or the 92, and be right where I wanted to be, but the Glock would be all over the place. It was a similar story with the Springfield XD. The S&W M&P was better for me, but not as accurate as the 92. Based on everything I'd heard about the Sig 226, I thought that might be a contender, but my shooting with the Sig was appalling (might have been the gun, that particular Sig has been ridden HARD). The only 9mm I was as accurate with as the Beretta or my 1911 was an old CZ-75. That's one of the primary reasons I went with the 75 Shadow.

Note that I'm not claiming my 75 is more accurate overall than any of the other Production guns. It's too variable. What I can say is that on that particular day, standing static on a square range, using factory 115 gr ball, the CZ-75 and Beretta 92 were the most accurate guns in my hands. Change a variable (particularly the shooter!) and you'll probably change the outcome. I've seen folks shooting Glocks much more accurately than I can shoot anything, so it's in large part what works for you.

I love my X5, but is a Competition so I have to shoot Limited. It is a wicked addition to my 3Gun set-up.

  3. Im getting tired doing all this reading.

Can we start an amateur thread for this match? They will be posted in random order. :roflol:

If you were an AM, that would have been funny. Think all those sponsors would want the AMs, and those new to sport (with new money), on a separate forum, not watching the pros and their pullover billboards? :sight:

fyi, that was totally a joke.

Just got it, a thread that is amateur, not a thread for AMs. Now that is funny! By the way, just watched your video, nice job!

  4. I am sure, with all of the fun we had, everyone has favorite quotes/stories of the match. I will start the list with a couple of my favorites.

1). While being coached on the Horus reticle by Cody at the LaRue 1000 yd sniper shot, Jin Wong (sporting a Fu Manchu mustache) looks at Cody and says, "It looks like Chinese to me.". Cody was like, Really!?! We all cracked up.

2). At the 4x4 post shoot, the rotation of squads was a little hectic. As a pro team headed to the line, the RO says, "Wait, we are going to shoot some amateurs first.". I said, "I'm outta here!! "

    Please add your own.

    Robert

  5. Burning Squirrels- how's the hearing?

Nice shooting for your first time shooting a centerfire rifle. :)

I was the RO running shooters on AM5.

haha, my ears were ringing the rest of the morning :) thanks for being... patient

"higher... higher!" didja like the pinky monopod? LOL

one day i'll learn to use it! and maybe sometime after that i can own one

Yeah, I thought 'higher, higher!' was the worst words I would hear from Bryan (RO) on stage 5, but then I called for a time check and answered '93'!! And, of course, I still had a rifle in my hands :-(. Second 3gun event for me so I know how you were feeling. Sure is COOL isn't. By the way, Bryan was one of my squad ROs at my first match. It is guys like him that will put a rookie at ease and give you the patience and advice needed to keep wanting to come back for more. Hope to shoot with you soon, Robert

  6. Mark R - glad I got to come over and help out on Stage 6. Started at AM 3 for 1-1/2 squads on Friday then got moved to the JP/MGM Side Match. We didn't run it Sunday so asked Jeff where I could help. Three ROs on a stage always works better, but it's hard finding, and paying for, another 15 people so I understand why Jeff only planned on two.

I was wondering if any of the AMs got the "Things to Bring..." email we sent from Brownells and if it helped any. We all had a great time, Frank and Pete Brownell were really happy with how well the whole thing ran and Pete has already said we're sponsoring it again next year. Larry Weeks

AM here. I don't remember a 'things to bring' e-mail, but it sounds like a good idea. Even a 'things to leave home list', like stroller carts, and money for beef brisket!! This will leave room for all the cool stuff you go home with.
