Good for you man! I've only shot three matches so far but am constantly trying to find ways to improve. I've never really known the importance of dry firing until recently, but I've learned it the hard way... I am fortunate to be consistent in my shooting, I'm constantly in the bottom three in my club!

So, Baba, how'd the match go? I just read through all the posts and am interested in the results!

if nothing else, adjusting a separate crimp die is a lot easier than adjusting crimp and seating in the same die. I found that to be true. My loads got better after I got the hang of it. I got the bell out of my loads with that die, the bullet seating die that is. It was a pain, but I finally figured it out...

Ok, so I have a 3 die set for .40 S&W. Do I need a taper crimp die? I just shot my first match with my reloads that I loaded last week. My accuracy was not as good as I would like. Is this because I need a taper crimp die? I have played a little more with my powder amount and have improved it a good bit, but was told I may want to get one of those dies...

So, basically, the general consensus is that they aren't the best. Mostly go bang... better for practice. Don't bet your life on them.

If I could get them in the ballpark of $150 or less for 10,000, would it be worth it? No shipping... local pickup.

I found a deal on a bunch of Wolf Small Pistol Primers. I am not a fan of the bullets, but I know nothing about these primers. Should I consider buying them for reloading 40 S&W? I'm new to reloading, as in I'm loading my first rounds when my bullets come in. I already have my cases primed for my first loads, this is just for future use...

By "trigger freeze", do you mean completely stopping shooting? Sorry to ask a dumb question, I'm just a little new to the language...

Remember a little goes a long way! Especially with the waxy, or greasy types of lube like Imperial Sizing Wax or Hornady's Unique. Dents will occur with too much lube not a big deal it will fireform out, but it's ugly, and sometimes its up in the dies and you have to clean them too. I didn't think about that... I haven't jumped in heavy yet, I'm still waiting on bullets to get here... I'll dive in shortly after that though.

Last night I bought a caliper, brass cleaning solution, some more dies, the Lee hand priming tool, primers, yada, yada, yada... I'm getting there. After using Vise Grips to remove a stuck .223 case from a die, I have realized the value of lube!

I haven't put as many rounds through my PT1911 as my Glocks and S&W's, but I haven't had any major hiccups with it either. I have put a few hundred downrange with it though... I understand I'm talking to some high octane folks on here and I asked here for that very reason! I value the opinions here and I know that most of you folks, you know who you are, are very knowledgable about firearms and the shooting sports. Trust me, I have thick skin! I don't mind you guys "shooting straight"...

Pastor, why do you recommend the Rem 700? Anything special?

I have been. Carrying a pt1911 in .45 as my primary concealed carry gun for a while. I haven't had any issues at the range, I mean, I know it's not a super awesome competition gun, but garbage is not necessarily the word I would use. To each his own I guess.

I won't be reloading thousands of rounds a year, just enough to have fun with and shoot a few competitions... Mostly 40 S&W, 9mm, and .223...

That's identical to mine, minus pretty much EVERYTHING ON IT! I don't even have the piece to sit the primer on... I got a decent price, but...

It's not really for comp. Mostly something I can nail some coyotes waaay out there... I would like to go well past 300 yards. I already have a decent AR that I'm working with now, I just want a decent bolt gun that can punch holes in paper, at a reasonable group. With Savage, is one model prefered over aother?

As a new father, money's tight. What do you recommend for shots past 300 yards?
