Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Vince, USPSA does not use the "option from factory" rule, else we would not be able to alter sights, but your answer is correct nonetheless. At Factory Gun Nationals, 2002 I queried Mr. Amidon face to face regarding the grip plugs. His response: "They are not legal." When I asked why, his response was, and I QUOTE: "We had to draw the line somewhere." I quietly left for the nearest safety area to remove the plug. Best regards Butch
  2. SmittyFL The current classifiers are all labelled 99-XX as they were published for 1999 in book form and distributed to the local clubs for use. Prior to that most years had classifiers labelled for the year and changed annually or thereabouts (my experience dates from mid '90s only.) It seems that Sedro Woolley has not updated the list since this was published, and I would agree with you that an update is due. If not at Nationals, perhaps at some other "Points Series" match or even a special match, a group of classifiers could be shot to at least get a start on a new list. Getting the best shooters there will be the trick! Another option would be to take some of the shorter stages in a national-level match and make them classifiers AFTER the match is done, using the scores from the match as a starting point for 100 percent. The difference between this and your first suggestion would be that it be announced ex post facto to prevent sandbagging. Grandbagging prevention is another thing... One of the features of the USPSA site is a listing of which classifiers have been shot by local clubs, and they are encouraged to not repeat them too often; I believe there is actually a prohibition on shooting the same one more than once in a given year. We all have seen manipulation of the classifier system for personal gain in both directions, but I haven't been able to come up with anything that is better than the current system and yet allows for flexibility. We in FL are blessed with outdoor shooting all year but those in less clement climates may only shoot 6-8 times yearly, dependant on local weather and club schedules, so the need to redo a classifier may be real, and actually reflect the shooter's ability. 3. Skywalker, thank you for the rapid response! My confusion stems from the "new" red 14th edition which no longer has the procedural reference in app. E, at least in the version I have (copyright 2001) or on area 6's website's searchable edition. Thus I wasn't sure whether to a) assess procedural per shot fired (or loaded *and* fired) or move to Open as was threatened for any non-compliant shooters at Factory Gun Nationals Butch
  4. On the latest recertification quiz, a question asks, "A revolver shooter fires seven(7) shots before doing a reload, should he/she be moved to Open Division?" and asks for a rule citation. I've been an RO for about six years or so, and believe the answer to be yes as more than six rounds **loaded** violates appendix "E" revolver standard division rules, but I cannot find any direction in print to move the shooter to Open Division. Any assistance is appreciated.
