[FN vent rib height]

Does anyone by chance have the barrel that could possibly measure it? A call to FN resulted in "we have never been asked that before". They also said no parts interchange between the slp and the sx2 or sx2 to sx3... from what I have read on here the 3 inch barrels do interchange except some of the brownings...

[Flush choke constriction and slugs?]

Hello everyone,

I am looking for another choke or 2 for my SX2. I have a winchester modified choke in right now and I want to try a light modified and skeet. I might be speculating here but I have read conflicting information about flush choke constriction.

It seems most people here run an extended light mod for 3 gun. I have also read that running slugs through a constricted choke can expand the choke and lock it up in the threads. I was told by a local shooter extended chokes became popular with steel shot because the hard shot passing through the constricted area would swell a flush choke and make it stick in the threads.

Is that why people run extended chokes for 3 gun even when they aren't swapping them often?

I have shot slugs through an 870 with a mod choke with no ill effects so far but thats with only about 50 slugs through that barrel, I generally shoot slugs through fixed improved cylinder barrels.

I would prefer not to make the barrel any longer than it is but I don't want to lock a choke in the barrel either...

Hello everyone,

I am picking up a used 3" chamber 28" barreled SX2 in the next week or 2 and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the rib height is on the FN replacement 24" vent rib barrels. I have shot mostly Remingtons and a Browning Gold and I am not sure I will be able to get used to the high rib on the Winchester. I thought about getting the barrel cut down to 22" and threaded by Briley but it seems to me that that the tall rib cut at 22" might adversely affect POI with slugs.

I searched the forums and the net and haven't found anything other than references to Browning is low, SX2 is high and i believe SX3 is mid height, but nothing on the FN VR barrels. Any input would be much appreciated.
