Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I guess it is...pretty simmilar rifle apart from the barrel length and stock. But DPMS arent available in Europe anymore ( as far as i know) and as long as they were i would be able to buy 2 STI rifles for the price of 1 DPMS. Sad but true. Greedy bastard at luxguns
  2. Accuracy has not been great since my supplier changed hes adress and cannot sell ammo for a bout two more weeks (ammo selling licence is based on a single adress) and so i have to buy other stuff.... Been at the range today shooting 63grainers from Geco, grouping at 1"@100yds as my best result, but for only 3x magnification where the reticle covers more than a inch of target, id say im doin ok. Considering i am a total newbie at rifle shooting and this is my first semiauto rifle. On average i did about 2" 3 shot groups. Didnt have any issues with the Geco ammo, but i also bought a Sellier&Bellot match grade ammo (3$ a piece!!!)which was the only 69grain ammo i could get at that point and the groups stayed about the same (about 2"@100yds) which was kind of dissapointing, and i even had a FTE once with the blowded bullet bottom...sad....
  3. I know the story here is kinda old, but for all of you "they can keep it for that money" , well here it is http://www.brazoscustom.com/sti_guns/sti_sportingrifle.htm Sti sporting rifle for a little under 1200$. Anyone have any idea where can i get this kind off the shelf setup for the money elswhere? Probably not. The truth behind the price is that i just got mine about 2 weeks ago and it has a serial of just under the 580. They sold some, but i guess 500 sold in two years is not that great. Thats probably the reason for price reduction imho... P.S. First impressions are great
  4. Dont know, its my first 1x scope, but apparently it is very difficult for scope makers to make true 1x magnification on variable magnification lenses...
  5. I have to orrect my post - weaver v3 magnification is NOT a true 1x - it seems so at a distance, but both eyes open @ 1yard i can notice the difference. Not much, but it is there...
  6. I have just recieved my decent but cheap scope&mounts and its a weaver v3 and burris P.E.P.R. QD . Still waiting for the rifle so i cant comment on the shooting performances. But the scope itself looks really good, crisp glass, true 1x magnification (!!!!!) and good eye relief and reticle. On the edges its a little fish-eye-sy, but its hardly noticable and the magnification ring is kind of hard to turn, better than too loose i guess... The Burris PEPR QD mounts are probably the best in the price range, very nicely build and i just cant wait to mount the scope on the rifle and start plinking.
  7. I do want to. I want to try it, i dont really care how it turns out, i got weaver scope with burris mount on the way, so im covered. I just want to spend few bucks and have a fun-time-scope. Even if it turns out to be toilet paper tube with coke bottle glasses, i have spent 50$ on more rediculous things many times before. Not proud of it but hey, if no one trys it, how can you tell if its good or bad???
  8. I may have exagerated a little, technical stuff is not quite as cheap, the clothes however really are. The markets overthere really sell just the original stuff, counterfits are sold on streets and small shops and sutch. It may not be a 10% price, but a HD camera was sold for less than half the price. Identical as the one here in store...
  9. No1, but for the price its irrelevant if warranty even exists. Guys, a 500$ scope can be bought for 50$. The EXACTLY same scope as is sold in the u.s. or over here. For that amount i just dont care for warranty and consumer care and all...
  10. No, guys, you misunderstood my purpose - im not going to buy a copy, i know they are worthless, a co-shoter did a comparison on the web with the trijicon and its chinese copy and it was clearly rubbish. I want to buy a decent benchrest scope that is produced in china - but an original, not a copy. The stuff for sale there is the original china made stuff, not a cheap copy. When they make like 10000 scopes for Bushnell they send 9500 to us here and sell 500 on their (enormous) markets. Thats where my bro buys stuff and he never gets bad stuff...nowadays a lot of stuff is china made (not all is bad) and before they send it over they sell it with minimum profit overthere.
  11. Hi there, my bro is going to China in september and he always brings back a ton of cheap stuff, most of western designed items produced in china can be bought there for like 10-20% of the price here in Europe. Hes always bothering me with "what do you want, i can get anything" , so as im getting a new rifle i guess i could use a decent benchrest scope aswell ( i ordered weaver v 1-3 for now)y . My question here is: which scopes are made in china and worth the money overhere? Im not planning to buy a ripoff scope (they copied trijicon scopes aswell) I guess Bushnell has some scopes priduced in china, but dont know what series... So if you know what (respectable, or at least decent) scope manufacturer has the production in china, please let me know... Thanks guys!
  12. Thanks again ccoker for all the details, you helped me a lot The prices on oberlands are just too darn high, so i went with the STI rifle, placed a deposit today and hopefully in 8 weeks (or less) i will be able to post some nice photos of my new sweetie... In the meanwhile i will still annoy you guys with questions about mags, scope, mounts, ammo etc.
  13. And another thing: If i reload i can probably use faster burning gun powder, right? Would i be able to achive total powder burnout with the really fast burning powder and a 16" barrel? Just curious if anyone ever done that...sorry for the off topic
  14. The barrel change is a general question since i have little or no idea how the ar uppers are built - are all the barrels for ar in the world interchangeable and so... But i will probably need to change the barrel eventualy, if i shoot 200-500 rounds in practice and half of that in competition, i guess the barrel will be worn out after a while...what kind of mileage can i expect on these barrels? 10k shots? 20k? More? Less? Not that it is a decisive argument, as i said, im just trying to understand the ar world a little better (through a purchase of a sti rifle). thanks
  15. Thansfor the info, lookin forward to the video Since you own it ill bother ou a little more; if i understant properly i will be able (in not so near future) to replace the barrel with a longer one? With the original barrel,is the compensator only screwed on (by hand) or is it welded on somehow? i would like to replace the compensator with jps or miculeks i.e., just in case i dont like the original one. How loud is the rifle in comparison to other, longer barreled rifles in the same caliber? Is it a big difference? As i said i can practice near the house, but the wife complains about the noise from heckler allready, i dont want to be limited to practice when wife is away only Thanks again for the info m8
