  1. Bummer! Every so often someone gets this GREAT idea for mystery or surprise stages which turn out to be a very uneven playing field for the non-local shooters or just a plain disaster from a functional point, which is why it only happens every couple of years when either new match directors get the GREAT idea or old match directors forget what a crap fest the last GREAT idea turned out.

    Nail on the head

  2. I'd never looked all that closely at the Leupolds before, but as I, too, am building a light upper, that VX6 is looking tempting...

Anyone have a favorite reticle on the VX6? The CM-R2 and the FireDot-SPR both look good.

If you are looking at the vx6 line- yes it is very light-the glass and fov looks very good. but the CM-r reticle that looks awesome on a computer in black and white is not close to being daylight visible. the firedot is yes visible in the daytime. but if you are looking at the vx6 the firedots are the only option if you want a daylight visible dot, although their issue is the push button illum controls being not as intuitive as leopolds advertising would have you believe. the tr24r would be the scope of choice- the best in class illumination very light weight.

  3. Since Nordic barrels have a smaller gas port than most, perhaps you need to open up the adjustable gas block some more.

Why do people keep saying this? I find it to be a fairly to spec gas port. Which does not lend itself to use with low mass components without a adjustable gas block and well in my experience that will ruin your match or give you problems at some time. Your statement is the reason i bought the nordic barrels.

the 18" nordic's gas port is.96(what they leave the factory at) milspec rifle length is .93? they said the 2" difference is the reason for a larger than milspec but...

  4. Since my Ultramatch, and its RMA'd replacement have issues with the feed ramps for reasons in my sig I am planning on going to a Nordic barrel.

That said is anyone running one with a standard BCG? I know the gas port is reduced and I am concerned with it having enough...ummph to cycle my Youngs Manufact standard BCG. I am using a Rainier Lo pro gas block - fixed gas

the gas port is not reduced. I read that somewhere too. I did not want to have to use an adjustable gas block either. but that is not the case on either their 16" or their 18"

both shoot awesome, very accurate. but they don't have reduced port sizes. my next barrel will come with a gas port drilled so that i can drill it myself. the somehow claim that it is reduced, although it doesn't say anything about that on their website.

  5. What do you know of the seller? The Colt Light Carbine is not a "competition" rifle, except that any rifle can actually be used in a competition.

Perhaps because it has a "match trigger?" That, too, is a non-standard relative term, and considering how badly a Colt standard trigger sucks, I question how much of an improvement would be significant to be considered "match" for them.

Now, all that said, I'm not dissing the actual rifle itself, for its intended purpose. Indeed, it would serve as well for many carbine matches as any other off-the-shelf AR. And it's a Colt, which means something to some people, though it shouldn't mean nearly as much as it used to. I've seen these Light Carbines on sale, new, for as low as $750 at times.

There should also be a model number on the receiver. A Light Carbine would probably be LE6900. That is the most useful information that can be included in your question.

based on the first link the (colt match trigger is 6lbs. i am still laughing

  6. Good illumination, poor reticle. I like Trijicon stuff, but unless this is a sub $600 optic, which it won't be, I fail to see how this is interesting. If a shooter doesn't need a reticle that allows for drop compensation, they don't really need more than 4x either, in my opinion.

really what is hard about 8moa at 500. basically hold the base of the triangle at the tip top or a touch over the top of the target. poor reticle agreed but i would take it over a bdc that doesnt match your loads:)

  7. someone copied and pasted this thread in arfcom http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_18/670065_Trijicon_1_6__not_the_VCOG.html

the thread there is a bit more active but still speculative in nature.

to clarify. the scope is a fiber optic (assuming tritium duel illumination) No batteries.... I dont know where the arfcom people are seeing a led and batteries based on the pictures.

still trying to find more info on the scope. and will be holding off on a scope for my .308 until then.

  8. glass quality appeared better than 1-4 but i could not side by side compare. and the tr24 is a great scope(no batteries, awesome illumination, awesome wide range eye box) yes it lacks a perfect reticle. but with the triangle and knowing your zero it can be done. (zerod at close to 300y)

the reticle in the above scope was a ? it looked like most hunting type crosshairs with modified*> german #4 but i am hopeful for vcog or bdc reticles.

again i have no real info on the scope, i was hoping some here could shed some more light on the subject. i want to buy one. here is my 2k$....

  9. To start this off my favorite 3gun scope is a trijicon tr24r. if that in your mind take away from my credibility so be it. the tr24 doesn't have the clearest glass or best fov. but it is the most forgiving eye box and that makes such a difference for me.

I Can't find this on the internet anywhere.. I got to look through it today and i snapped some pictures.

I don't have any specs or further details. chime in if you know something I want one.

Links below, We will call it a leak. trijicon is either tight lipped about the new scope do the poor performance of the vcog and still trying to get it out of stores or it truely is just a one off.

  10. Try 55 V Max or even the new 53 V Max. The 53 is a more streamlined bullet with a higher B.C.

The 55 is available in boxes of 250, the others only boxes of 100.

thanks. You answered the question i asked. I know what i want... I just wanted to find possibly a bulk discount deal or something because I ordered 10 packs of 100 and well I am just looking to save a few pennies.

I only asked about the 68s because they seem to be a good price in a bulk box but if they are no good than bulk is pointless. but i assumed that since they did sell them in bulk that somebody must like them...

Thanks for the replies and your input.

  11. For general 3 gun application you would be better off with a 55 FMJ then you will with either of the two 60g bullets you mention. The 60G VMAX will shoot very very well but when compared to a 55 FMJ its at a disadvantage for wind and drop in the long run. 55 FMJ bullets also cost less. The 60g VMAX will do a number on critters if that's the intended purpose and they will do so more consistently then a 60g SP will.

I have shot many a H68g bullet side by side with a sierra 69 when I could not find the sierra bullets. They shoot almost as well, they have a lower BC and they do take up more case capacity then a sierra bullet will.

the 60 vmax should be the ticket for a 16in gun as the slower powders that push 75 and 77s just dont get the velocity. 55s work fine yes. i have loaded thousands of 55s and they work good but i think the 60s will have a edge over the 55s in accuracy at longer distances

  12. Damn I was hoping Vortex would come out with a mid priced 1-6x. I'm already in the $250-400 scope category and I'm looking to move up but not quite $1400 Razor HD up. Something like a Razor Lite in the $700-900 range would be perfect. And maybe a reticle with more reference points for wind holds. I like the idea of the reticles in the Razor series but I never get to shoot longer range in anything less than 15mph winds and those reticles hang me out to dry.

The average match Doesn't shoot past 300. 300 and in doesn't need any reticle.

Thats why most off the shelf "ar's" have a built in vent rib just like a nice shotgun. who needs plastic flip up sights? while test firing uppers at the range (without any sight equipment)i just aimed down the top rail like a shotgun and made hits at 300. everyone was impressed.... I wasn't....

at 300 do you actually aim with the first BDC line or do you just hold a hair high if anything? at 300 I just mid high on the target with the center crosshair or dot.

  13. Haha its like shooting a revo at a uspsa match instead of an open gun. Its probably a good cross training tool to practice trigger control. but sight -bore offset is killer.

also even with some 2850 fps reloads through it. it has notably more recoil than the most basic carbine AR15.

  14. I had one of the nordic 16" barrels trying to accomplish what you are after. Accuracy simply wasn't there. I was somewhere around 3" at 100 yards. Even for a short light hoser top end, that ain't gonna cut it. I would like to have the same thing, but that same top end needs to be able to ring an 8" plate at 300 and 3" at 100 won't do that. I am watching this thread closely for suggestions from others who have accomplished this goal.

I just ordered one of these, hope I have better luck.

3moa out of a nordic barrel? you must be doing something wrong. it is as accurate as anything i have tried(noveske,jp,wilson, lilja, lothar, daniel, lmt) Easily 1moa or better. i have shot a 1.2inch group with wolf and no sandbags.
