  1. I decided to go with a new gun instead of a conversion kit for my EM in 9mm. Is a stronger recoil spring needed in 45? I plan on shooting only factory ammo or handloads to duplicate factory, no +P. How are the mags in 45? My 9mm came with the front spacer nose-diver.
  2. I purchased a Witness Elite Match in 9mm last month. I ordered it off of Davidson's gun genie. Judging from how fast their latest batch went I think my gun is likely new production. Anyway, it shipped with a front spacer mag with orange follower. The first few hundred rounds went through it with fully loaded mags no problem but yesterday it started doing the nose dives with more than ten rounds loaded. I've trolled through all of the mag posts on the forum and know what to try to fix it. Since I bought it as a range gun it's not even that big of an issue for me. Just thought some of you would like to know that the 9mm Elite Match is still being shipped with front spacer mags. My real question is everyone's thoughts on additional mags. I'd like to get just a couple more. Should I order new ones from EAA? What's the word on the Mec-Gar mags? I've looked at their website and want to be sure that they are for the large frame. Anyone have new Mec-Gar mags and do they solve the nose dive 9mm issue without having to tune the lips or swap out followers and springs? Going to try to call Mec-Gar tomorrow and see what they say. Probably ought to just get some Mec-Gar's if only to report back if they're any good. Thanks guys. Love the forum!
  3. I looked back through some of my old records when I was reloading 45 Colt today. I got lower SDs when my brass was new than I'm getting now after several reloads.
  4. Thanks for the replies. Where is a good place to get a Match conversion kit? EAA's website shows kits sale. I'm assuming it would be the long slide with super sight. Is this a Match top end or just a run-of-the-mill conversion kit?
  5. I am a new owner of an Elite Match in 9mm. This is an awesome gun. I want to get one 45 too. My question is should I pony up for another gun or just get a conversion kit for the frame I already have? Would a conversion kit be as accurate as a whole new gun hand built by Tanfoglio? Would I need to send my frame to EAA to have a kit fitted to it?
  6. I watch SD when I work up loads. I've found that many starting loads will yield high SDs and it will lower as powder charges increase and I find the powder/bullet combo's sweet spot. SD will again increase as you go too high and I know to back off on the charge. I've seen incremental increases in powder charges cause significant increases in average velocity and then as you approach the sweet spot AV won't go up but a few fps for the came increase in powder but the SD will drop dramatically. That's when you know you've found your load. I don't look at SD in fps. Although my chrono displays it in fps it also displays it as a percentage of AV. I find it a better way to compare different loads at different velocities. An SD of 50 in a 1000 fps 9mm load would not be a good load but a 50 SD in a 3000 fps 223 would be fine. Factory ammo usually has an SD in the 2% to 2.5% range. If my handloads are down there I'm happy. I've had loads on the 1% range, but only with VV powders...
  7. All of the N300 series powders are pretty much the same size extruded powders. I haven't tried N320 in 9mm, although I've loaded a lot of it in 45. I just worked up some loads with N350 to duplicate factory 124 FMJ loads using plated flat points. N350 looks like it's the best VV powder for 9mm.
