  1. Wow, thanks for all the help! I do have a reloading manual but I wanted to see what's working for others.
  2. Thanks! I'll work something up this week and try it out next Saturday.
  3. Anyone have any pointers on reloading 200gr wad cutter that'll make as close to possible 825fps in .45acp? I'm not too sure where to start with reloading these. I want to use em for IDPA with my 1911.
  4. I'm not sure where I said that...? Haha
  5. 7- Next run that loop through the eye of the knotted side 8- Run the knotted loop back through the continuous loop and you have a pretty secure lock. Tadaaaaa! You can also make attachments and turn it into a 2 point. Total time approx 1 hour for this long of a braid. :?
  6. *tighten it down, not super tight, but taught* 5- See in the above picture how one side of the braid is going down and under the core? From that side, make an S shape, in this case it's a backward S, this will be the alternating pattern. *It should look like this after that second run through* 6- Continue braid until you have about a 1 inch loop left, as shown in the first pic. Now tie off with a simple square knot the remaining cord, and melt it down with a lighter to secure the knot. Using the side that is continuous and does not have a knot through it, run it through one of the sling attachment points.
  7. So I just finished a month in Quantico doing basically a Marine Corps screener... I had a TON of 550 cord left over so I decided to try something out. Total cost- 4 bucks worth of cord and 1 hour. This "sling" is pretty handy, cheap to make and simple to make and best yet it's made of 550 cord so for the SCAR's it doesn't scratch up the sling attachment points. You can make any combination of 550 chord you want. As you see my first pic is a bracelet w/ OD green and FDE mixed. The sling has as OD green core and black braid. 1- start with the desired length of cord loop, tie off with a simple knot. This is the "core." *simple knot* 2- The length of braiding cord must be approximately 7 times the length in feet as the core length. ie- my sling is 4 feet long so my cord was approximately 28 feet. Find the middle of this length and place it underneath the core loop. 3- To start, make a "S" with one side of the braiding cord 4- Run the other side down into the bottom loop of the S, under the core, and up through the top side of the S
  8. local club I shoot at bans it for public display... has to be for private use only
  9. Thanks, I didn't know that part about actually paying the sponsor. I'm not looking to make a living off shooting, that's what my major (Naval Architecture/ engineering) is for I plan on practicing a lot more as I get time and hopefully a club membership near where I am now. I wished this post to be an informative tool for myself and others who have hopes of shooting in the big leagues (with guys whom you mentioned) someday. I'm just all about shooting, love it, and want to bring as many people as I can into the shooting sports.
  10. My mistake between understanding the difference in club level and sanctioned match. I'll shoot one later this summer though. And I'm not sure how it'll work with the Marine Corps and outside sponsorships. Either way I just love to shoot and want to expand my career in it.
  11. Where are you getting the SS by 1.56 seconds? I had 26 total PD over 10 stages... the most PD I had on any 1 stage was stage 2 which turned an 8.03 to a 13.03. Look at the CDP UN shooter... I never try to brag or boast, this post was just to report my progress and what I'm doing. I've been shooting since before I could walk (literally), it was my favorite thing to do as a baby. On any weekend I log at least 300 rounds with my 1911 or rifle either in competition or at a range practicing not to mention the hours of dry fire practice I do and weekly practice... I work hard and I'm always trying to make it to the next level.
  12. Forgive my improper terminology. I was told by a respected club member one of the guys shooting as EX should reclass since he shoots well enough to be a MA... I'm claiming noob move, and I apologize for that.
  13. PS, I'll be gone for the next few days out and about in a field sonewhere haha
  14. Thanks for all the replies and help. I'm understanding how much work is involved. As far as the Marine shooting team I can be the OIC (as a 1st LT or Captain), who's also allowed to shoot with the team. We'll see how it goes
  15. That's what I was thinking. And I'm not trying to get carried away here, I know I have a lot do first, I'm just looking for the path others took to get there ya know? It's nice to have a plan for my goal. Thanks though for the tips
  16. The thing is, I'm still UN. So I have to wait until I shoot a classifier next month. But I'm placing 1st overall or at least 1st in CDP division. Sometimes those dang 9mm's in SSP are just a bit faster
  17. Winning CDP in sanctioned matches... And I'm a Midshipman at the Naval Academy soon to be in the Marine Corps as a commissioned officer. I'd like to think I dress well and have good presence when speaking. As far as offering the company something in return, sure, wearing their tee's, using their gear and promoting how well it works for what I do. I know being in the military takes up a lot of time with deployments etc but I can still make a lot of matches when I'm stateside. I shot with a sponsored shooter for S&W the other weekend who's in the Army and she said it's not too terribly difficult. Just gotta get your name out there, build a credible record and promote the company.
  18. So one of my biggest goals is to shoot competitively w/ a pro sponsorship. Is the only route to do this (or most common), just shooting at major matches and winning? Or actively seeking company support and going from there? I'm not trying to be arrogant or anything, but I have been shooting very well in IDPA and 3-gun (will soon shoot a USPSA match) and I think I have a shot. Thanks for the help
  19. As long as the classifier doesn't have two inch wide poppers around 50' I should be good to go (I know it doesn't) Thanks for the good wishes
  20. There are a few more places in the area that have some high profile shooters attend regularly that I'm going to try and make it to soon. It's hard to find the time with military obligations though. This place is just 3 miles from me so it's easy to get to. My stage breakdown: 1- 12 shots, 21.98 (moving around a grid of four barrels in a x pattern, only allowed to shoot when moving in the diagonal direction) 2- 12 shots, 13.03 (head shots only) 3- 6 shots, 8.00 (3/4 were hit steel off to the side, 4 into a down zero only steel cutout, hit steel again, moving forward and back for 4) 4- 6 shots, 12.13 5- 17 shots, 23.73(5/6 were 6 paper in a pyramid, tactical sequence with 5 knockdown steel in the middle of em, 6 was any order double taps) 6- 17 shots, 19.67 7- 6 shots, 33.13 (ouch, pencil poppers through/ around or on top a barrel at a pretty far distance, the last four stages were "bullseye" stages disguised haha) 8- 6 shots, 27.47 9- 6 shots, 31.15 10- 6 shots, 18.42 Hmmm round count is 94 here... I thought there was a few more. The last four stages obviously killed my times, I think target distance was 50' for those little poppers, three of em spaced about 10 feet apart, kinda a pain
  21. Round count was 100 and I shot a 208.71 w/ 26 total points down, there was a lot of movement on the stages and some far shots. Yaaaa with the MA one stage he had like four light strikes which put him way behind. Some of the other scores from EX's were: 222.03, 238.07 or somewhere around these times. I shot at AAFG in MD
  22. I've shot a BUG match and IDPA match prior to this one. I'm no noob to competition though, been shooting long range, palma, and high power since about 8 (I'm 21 now). And the master was shooting well, I watched him very carefully shoot the stage before me (I was right after him), caught his mistakes and maximized on that
  23. So I felt pretty good shooting today, turns out I shot pretty good too in CDP. Beat a master by 40 seconds... I shoot my classifier next month, still UN right now. I think I have a fairly good shot at MA right off the bat, that'd be pretty awesome *knock on wood* A lesson I learned today: -When "point shooting" at close range it's still imperative to bring that front sight up and focus on it cause I threw a couple low that should have been easy -0s but were -1s instead.
  24. MarkCO- thanks for the advice, I see what you mean about reloading while moving. That can save me a lot of time. I thought about doing multiple hits on the poppers but they weren't reliably throwing them up in the air as you saw the 2nd one came straight for me, the guy before me the 3rd one did that to him so I didn't wanna risk missing one due to that. Thanks for all the help so far everyone.
  25. Results were posted today. 31/69 overall and 1/5 for HM division by a whole minute. Total time 408.48, 1st overall, an open shooter, 192.04
