Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. My problem that I had was that I watched a very good shooter's videos, he is a member here, then at that match I watched him again, he ran through the stage in alot less time than everyone else, but he also put every round that night into a Alpha. When it was my time to shoot, I figured I would run it as fast as I could possibly pull the trigger. My time was great, I was faster than most people that night. But I had alot of Delta's and a few Mike's. So overall I sucked. I went out to an actual range with USPSA targets, and wanted to practice my "Double Taps". I have figured out that if I aim for the bottom of the A ring for my first shot, I can fire the second as fast as I can and it will stay in the A ring. So I am confident that I will shoot alot better in my match's this weekend. Thanks for all the info and suggestions
  2. Yeah I'll be shooting limited, I forgot to say that my G35 does have a full stippled grip, and has the glock extended mag release. I've got some Dawson andd arredondo basepads on the way, but that is mainly to get the mag seated easier with the magwell I have on it. Thanks for the advice everyone, I am gonna slow it down some, and work on actually getting god hits.
  3. Hey everyone, I am really new to competition shooting, I actually shot my first match last sunday, and another match yesterday. I've got 3 pistol match's this weekend and I need some help. How do I find what the right balance is between shooting a stage as fast as I can, compared to putting all shots dead center in the A. On my last match, I shot really fast, but my accuracy was not too good, I had a few deltas and mikes. I am more than capable to shoot a perfect stage, but my time will be slow. So what is a good balance for someone just starting out? I will appreciate any advice you can give me, I have never had more fun in my life than I have had shooting competition, I've got 3 pistol match's this weekend, 1 pistol match next weekend, and then I have my first 3-gun the weekend after that. btw. I am shooting a Glock 35 with Dawson FO front sight and Dawson fixed rear, Dawson magwell, and competition trigger. if that matters to what advice you give me. Thanks , Justin
  4. I had the same issue today, I just got a Dawson Ice magwell for a Glock 35, I put the plug in and slid the mag well on to check to make sure the mag would still drop properly before I screwed everything down. the mags would not fall, actually I would have o pull hard to get it out. I have a custom full stippled grip, and what was happening is the stippling was sticking out more than a factory grip, so I took out my pocket knife and just shaved it down a little on the bottom. Now it works great, I am very impressed with the reload time, I can change mags in abouut half the time as I can with a production gun
  5. Well I shot the rifle match yesterday, I had alot of fun even though I placed dead last. It was my first match that I have shot a rifle. On the short range stages I didn't do too bad, I was able to hit what I wanted to. had a few mikes and no shoots, but I think that is because of the crappy scope that I was using. it was some old 4-32x tapco. The long rang stage only went out to 100yrds but my scope was not sighted in very well, so I was only able to hit the paper, and the larger steel. I am gonna order a 1-4x soon to see if it helps me
  6. I am new to competition shooting myself, and all I can say is I wish I would have started earlier. It is much more fun than just going to the range. And in this sport, people will give you all the advice in the world to help you out. I would reccomend finding a local gun club, and starting from there
  7. I will give it a try, yesterday I practiced shooting with my weak hand only using my G35, I can do it but it is alot harder with the G35 then it is with my G22
  8. Steel Challange is a good way to go, that is cheap and way less physical. But as the previous person said most places will work with you if you have a disability Check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP9Tp5_FQYA
  9. That scooter shooting was pretty funny. But the funniest thing is what he did to break his leg
  10. I thought about the magpul AFG, but just have not had the chance to try it out yet. about 7 months ago, I had a ND and ended up shooting myself in the hand. So I dont have much use in it
  11. I guess its just how my rifle is set up, I have a quad rail that is short and it just doesn't feel right holding like you said. If I had a longer handgard it would probably be better. I'll take the VFG off tomorow and run a couple hundred rounds through it and see how it is
  12. Well Jesse you know what happened to my weak hand, and because of that I can hold a rifle like most people do. I have to keep the VFG to be able to shoot it with any speed and accuracy
  13. Hey everyone, I am very new to shooting competition. I have only shot 1 pistol match so far. I am going to shoot a rifle only match on Sunday, but I have a problem. I went out today at my private range to practice with a cheap scope I had laying around, and I cant keep it steady. I can get all of my shots on target, but can't make pin point shots on target. I would hit about 2 inch's off in any direction. This is basically an off the shelf DPMS flat top, with a rail system and VFG. I am wanting to start 3-gun soon, but want to shoot a few match's with the 3 guns individually first. So my question is, how important is it to hit the exact place you are aiming for? I know if its just a 8" plate it does not matter where you hit it. Is there any advice you can give me to help me keep it steady? I know at the match I am shooting this weekend there will be a few clays to shoot. The problem is standing with no support. I can do fine prone, or with something to prop my rifle against.. Thanks for the help.. Justin
  14. That happened to me 3 times last night. It was my first ever match. 2 of the times were on the same stage, and the same position. There were 3 targets at different positions, was supposed to start from left to right with 2 shots each, and then reload and 2 more each from right to left. I got my first hits fine, reload didnt seat the mag and straight to the floor, I grab another and same thing, straight to the floor. It was a low round count stage so I only had 3 mags on me. I had to ask the RO if it was ok for me to pick one of the mags up to finish the stage.
  15. Thanks for the advice. I do need some practice reloading. I messed up 3 times last night, by not getting the mag seated properly. And it caused me a couple misses since I was shooting at a sliding target. I am gonna have a Dawson Magwell installed soon, and have the trigger guard undercut as well. Mabye that will help me out? Even though I didn't place too well, I had a blast. I just wish I would have started sooner.
