  1. Range report: I did a quick check firing 1/2 a box of ammo and it is now centered at the 20 yards as I testes before. Still a bit high. But I think that is my cheek weld. I'll work on it a bit and may use the adjustment plates.

Then to move on to sighting for slugs.

  2. UPS returned my SG today. Only 12 days from day I shopped it out. I'm pleased with that turn around time.

A quick check shows the barrel is straight. I hope to get to the range on Sunday to see how it shoots.

  3. I just got off the phone with Remington. They are sending me return authorization for them to fix my barrel. With their "quick turn around" I should have it back in 3 weeks! i told him i'd miss a lot of shooting in 3 weeks. I asked why not ship me a new barrel. The response was they can't do that for a $450 barrel. I said I have a $1200 shotgun that won't shoot straight.

They did say I could wait until after the season & send it back then. I may just throw some adjustable sights to get me thru the season. After the paperwork come thru I may call them back and ask for a barrel swap again.

  4. I'm still working the bugs out of my Versa Max Tactical. My shots have been slightly high & right. The shots pattern about 6" right at 20 yards. I get fairly consistent patterns with various ammo. I sought help from an instructor that I have used in the past. He quickly noticed that the barrel appeared to be bent. His shots were off the same as mine had been.

Today I put a straight edge along both sides of the barrel and sure enough it curves to the right. The "bend" begins right where the clamp is located about 6 1/4" from the end. (I had removed the clamp for checking the barrel). The bend is about .026" at the end of the barrel.

My question here is how much of a issue is this?

Should I call Remington? And / or throw some adjustable sights on to at least get me thru this season?

    Ant other thoughts or ideas?

  5. My Versa Max was hard to load. I tried all the usual recommendations. Then at a match the shell would not release it. Seemed like to much pressure on the shells in the magazine. It was suggested to replace the mag spring with a Nordic. I did that and the loading was as different as night & day. Waaayyy easier.

  6. I have run into that problem lately with the tactical models. Replaced factory mag spring with a nordic spring cut to the proper length and left both shell release springs in. Gun started working fine. Have seen the same problem with the last two tactical models that have come through the shop.

    BINGO!

I ordered a new Nordic spring and it arrived today. When I compared the OEM to the Nordic, the OEM definitely is thicker wire.

I measured and cut 16" longer than the tube with the +1 end cap. (The OEM spring was only 10" longer). I loaded 9 dummy rounds and when I hit the cartridge release the shell fed to the carrier, just like it's supposed to. I tried it several more times and everything functioned perfectly. I'm off to the range on Wednesday to give it a workout with real ammo.

Another plus is with the Nordic spring is noticeably easier to load.

    Thanks for the ideas.

  7. Thanks for the feedback.

I have not removed the inner spring. I've read Mark's comments in previous posts and I think the double spring is a good thing.

The mag spring is the stock one. The +1 end cap should have the effect of shortening the spring length relative to the total mag tube

    length.

I have only used brass casehead shells. I will take it apart and make sure I don't have a sharp edge on the shell catch. From watching everything work, it seems the shell catch may be flexing to much. I called Remington and ordered a new one just to have something to reference. When I ordered the parts the lady ask if I was having problems. I told her what was happening. She said she has a Versa Max and it is still stiff even after a few hundred rounds. She also noted the shell catch is different from the Regular model vs the Tactical.

I also plan to keep loading & breaking in the magazine spring. If anyone else has ideas i'd appreciate the advice. I'll update this post with my findings & progress.

  8. I have a new Versa Max Tactical (about 100 rounds total thru the gun). It has the lifter welded, and a +1 end cap. I used a file to slightly enlarge the cuts in the feed latch as recommended in other posts.

I shot a 3 gun match Sunday and ran into a problem . We started with the gun loaded "cruiser ready" - mag tube loaded, chamber empty, bolt closed. When I hit the cartridge release the shells would not feed from the magazine. After fussing with it a bit, the shell finally fed and I was able to chamber the round.

Today I got a chance to try to see what was happening. I loaded the magazine with 9 rounds (2 1/2" shells). When I hit the cartridge release the shell did not feed. The cartridge release is moving clear of the feed latch but the feed latch does not move. If I hit the gun a few times the feed latch will finally allow the shell to feed.

This happens when the magazine is loaded with 9 or 8 rounds. Less than that seems to work fine. It seems like the magazine spring is putting to much pressure on the shells to allow the feed latch to move.

    Any ideas /suggestions?

  9. Opening loading port is a must. When i install the extended lifters i remove the smaller shell release spring. I use a nordic tube and cut the spring about 12" past the end of tube. Mine loads easy as can be.

I have the tactical model with a +1 end cap. I thought that adding the +1 would be helpful because local matches only allow 8+1. By adding the extended cap I lessened the mag spring tension and have more flexibility for other matches.

When I removed the small latch spring, the remaining spring was not strong enough to move the shell latch when the mag is fully loaded. I see some comments about working the latch but I don't understand what exactly needs to be done. Can some explain?

Also, if I re-work the latch should I then be able to go back to removing one of the springs?

  10. I have aa 2 round forend carrier from 3 Gun Gear. The elastic is sooooo tight I have a hard time getting the rounds in. And getting them out isn't any easier. As tight as it is, I really can't see using it at a match except as a last resort. I've put rounds in and let it sit for a week but I don't think it made a difference

Has anyone else run into that? What can I do to loosen it up a bit.

  11. I'm looking for a larger FO front sight. Ideally I' like a bead that is about 2 X the size and a bit taller.

    OR

Some type of sight set that the rear mounts to the reviewer holes and the front mounts in place of the Remington FO. btw, the front sight mounting screw is a bear to remove.

    Does anyone have any ideas????

  14. J Kelly, on Brians site they 560/561 is not offered for a Glock 34.---clay1

I checked Safrailand's "Will Fit" sheet and you are correct they don't offer a 560/561 for the Glock 34, sorry.

    Respectfully,

    jdkelly

It it is offered for the Glock 17,and it is, then won't the 34 fit also?

  15. So, really, who did David E. and Uncle Mike's piss off at Barryville anyway?

HQ is willing to take a hit at those two by labeling their product as not appropiate for real life use, BUT they won't take on Glock for their "practical & tactical" guns (G34 & G35).

I bet they figures that people would be willing to overlook throwing away $20 for a holster, but would not overlook throwing away $$$$+ for a pistol.

  16. From their web site:

Available in three sizes: NOVAK- blade is .125" wide and .160" tall, and works best with the Glock factory rear sight or a Novak's rear sight ; HEINIE- blade is either .105" or .125" wide and .225" tall, and works best with a Heinie rear sight; BO-MAR- blade is either .100" or .125" wide and .285" tall, and works best with a Bo-Mar rear sight.

It looks like to stay with the factory rear you'll use the "Novak - .125 wide by .160 tall front blade.
