@davsco One thing I notice from your pic.........the new "gray" based one has MBX /9mm on the side while the earlier purchased "blue & black" based ones both have MBX 38/9mm in the stampings.
yeah i'm not sure why they dropped the "38" on the new mags. i asked them (because i also have 170's for my open gun) and they said they still work for 38 super.

That works for Lim and Open because there is only one competitive case size. The game here is to make two calibers/case-sizes competitive with each other. Preferably with at least somewhat-practical mags.
That's either a major-minor count mix 6/8 in Revo, 8/10 Single Stack (shocking ROs can keep up with all that on the fly ) or another number like 10 in Production & L10 unless you want two different length mags for each, single-stack-can-use-170-style, but both sets of candidate shooters have a lot of 141mm mags.
A number may be a bit more annoying to enforce but it's a whole lot easier to implement.
implementing a rule is a one time thing. enforcing it is an every-shooter, every-stage, every-match thing. folks can shoot 9 or 40 iin limited now and choose between a round or two less or more capacity vs a scoring advantage or disadvantage and that has worked fine for years if not decades. why change what works and why go to a method that introduces less enforcement consistency?

Was it 18 or 19, if not sure load to 23 and take 3 off.....
Plus plenty of new mags that hold 20.....
This is not that complicated
What you said is not as easy as just a mag length rule. That BTW seems to work well for ltd, open, etc.

Yeah, stop counting shots and count reloads.
If it's a huge thing, maybe somebody can invent an electronic gizmo that counts shots. Even cooler would be if it recorded the time in between them.
If shenanigans are suspected, detail an extra RO to count shots or do snap mag inspections. A few public unsportsmanlike-conduct DQs and problem solved another way.
counting to ten isn't a big deal for the RO nor for the shooter reloading his mags. 20 is a bigger deal for both and easy to lose count or get it wrong. am i at 18 or 19 in the mag, crap, empty the mag and start over. yeah, shot timers have counters but we don't always catch every shot on the timer. and for guys that reload before running dry (as it should be of course...), no one is going to be 'caught' unless we're counting the rounds in the discarded mags. having a mag length rule and not a round count rule is way easier for both the shooter and the RO.

yeah i can't get 24 into any of my prior mbx mags. maybe if i threw them in a vise... the new ones hold 24 almost easily right out of the bag. i used both of the new ones, and of course the old ones, in my mpa ds9 at a 2 gun match yesterday and it all ran flawlessly.

Out of town til the weekend, will check then.
-
Just got 2 of the mbx 140 2011 mags last week and they hold 24 9mm somewhat comfortably, even at first time loading. Not sure I could squeeze more than 23 in the older ones I have.

not familiar with the larger savior bags, but their pistol bags seem very high quality.
midwayusa drag bag should work good for 3 gun. but i've normally just used separate bags for each gun. and throw them on a lightly customized jogging stroller to tote around at the match.

so as it turns out, the rod that sticks out from the drop piece is long enough to slide out the block a little and still have the screws bite, so i did that and grinded down the slide racker a little. should give me just enough clearance to holster and draw without issues.
-
with the sideways c-more and extended racker, the belt is interfering with the racker. i had to raise the gun up to where the racker is above the belt but it sits too high for a comfortable draw. double alpha race master magnetic. on another gun, the slide racker is ambi so i just run it on the right side, not an option with this gun, at least without some machining and a different slide racker.
perhaps some sort of spacer at the belt attachment point?
some sort of spacer where the 'drop' part of the holster attaches to the belt?
find or make a longer piece (rod) that goes from the bottom of the drop part to the actual holster? worried there might be too much torque on that part if i make it too long.
someone makes a better/wider drop offset piece?
something else?
thanks!

I'm in FLA thru next weekend in Melbourne. Both places are almost equidistant. OK Corral seems to have a little higher round count and two extra stages. Which do you prefer and why? thanks!
Oh and i could do both, but only brought 300 rounds thinking i would have only one choice...

the biggest thing I get is people don't like loading shotguns LOL
at least for me, the actual loading/reloading isn't an issue. it's having all those shells on you possibly falling off if you have slung rifle, or depending on shooting positions. then it's the whole form factor of the gun and ammo and mags vs AR and handgun. then the ammo and choke mix. just adds a lot of logistics, hassle and the like.

yeah the 1 /2 /3 day can be confusing, but if you look at the squadding page sometimes it helps make sense of it.

That last sentence is the biggest factor for me. I don’t really want to drop close to 4k on a gun that I could end up not shooting in competition.
these limited optics guns are heavily used in 2 & 3 gun. used to be in open division but many matches now have a CO division that allows 2011's and of course the uspsa def'n of CO.
-
haven't really kept up. so is this basically Limited division with the addition of slide-mounted dots, but minor power factor scoring and 9mm minimum caliber?
-
did bianchi buy nexbelt or just retailing them? i've had a nexbelt for a couple years now, great belt for aiwb carry, easily adjustable.

There is also a significant price difference that I have to take into account - MPA at 4500 is pretty much the top of my budget
tell you what, carry optics is a pretty cool division as well, less than half the price if not a third or quarter, esp when you take into account mags. and if you don't reload, ammo will be way cheaper also. also easier on the ears. but yeah, open is pretty cool/fun.

I would check out Brazos semi custom line, they are ready to ship and are top notch.
agree on the 'top notch' part but mine ordered last summer took roughly 6 months. still waiting to do my first match with it!
but it wouldn't hurt to call them, mpa, etc from time to time as surely they have cancels here and there.
-
i don't know how to do it, but i've def seen it done at some (time plus) 2 & 3 gun matches i've attended.

i'd talk with folks at your uspsa matches and see what they're using, likes, dislikes, etc. most will let you fondle (and shoot) their guns after the match if allowed. to save some dough, look at the classifieds here, always folks selling what they have to upgrade or change divisions.
as far as "lower price" guns, look at mpa/masterpiece arms. i have one of their 9mm limited guns and once i got it figured out (mags, ammo) it's been absolutely perfect. also brazos has their sc/semi-custom line. very nice guns esp for the price.
