  1. loving the aggressive steel grips on my most recent 2011s.  would like to get similar but aluminum (lighter) for my sti steelmaster.  cheely seem oos and mpa says they stopped selling their grips.  i see vulcan machine works who milled one of my 2011s for an optic, but they're a tad expensive although it looks like they do the fitting.

    any recommendations?

i've stripped 2011s and others all the way down and back and replaced/fitted extractors and ejectors, trigger groups, etc but wouldn't consider myself a gunsmith.  any big fitment issues to be aware of?

    thanks!

  2. whaaaaaat, that is friggin ridiculous.  certainly some if not most, of the dq-able events in uspsa (180, handling ammo at the safe table, removing holster with gun in it not at a safe table, handling your gun outside a safe area, etc) have no bearing on actually being safe outside of a match.

on a more practical matter, are the cops really going to keep a list somewhere of all this?  public or private, where is it posted or saved, who is responsible for updating and checking accuracy?  does this list include issues outside of competitive shooting - guy puts one thru the floorboard or a wall in his house, etc?

perhaps this is just an April 1 thing a few days early...

  3. i always thought, perhaps incorrectly, that energy (1/2mv^2) was a more applicable measurement for felt recoil / muzzle jump than power factor/momentum (m*v).  seems borne out by saying heavy but slower bullets have less recoil than lighter but faster bullets, when both are loaded to the same pf.

  4. answers probably skewed by age.  ~60 now i'm not a fan of really low ports or 25yd dashes.  but one every once in a while i won't complain too much because something like that may come up in real life.  but i do go to matches to shoot and not conserve ammo so like a higher round count.

Too bad they're a pain to load!

man that d60 is a pita to load!

used one on a stage recently and the rifle was doubling and even tripling!  they were awkward offhand shots and i guess my bad form combined with the extra weight from the extra ammo had me essentially bumpfiring!  i shot a coupled 30 rounder (same extra weight vs a single 30 rounder) on another stage but it was prone or supported, with zero issues.

  6. on a stage where 30 is more than adequate, i think using coupled just increases the effort to dumping the gun in a barrel, more bulk and mass to catch on the barrel or barricades etc.  ditto with a 40.

  7. my first criteria for a pcc is one that takes glock mags.  i am sure i wouldn't buy one that took 2011 mags.  and i have a handful if not more, of 2011's...  most run flawlessly but generally if there is a problem, it seems to usually be mag-related.  plus, i haven't seen any 2011 drums yet...

looking to avoid being the only participant in Limited-10.

easy enough to do at sign in at the match or even at the start of your first stage.  but you can look the day before at the 'match breakdown' button in practiscore and have a pretty good idea of how many are registered in each division and change your division then if you want to.

  9. take the first shot or two slow and see where you're hitting.  or blast away and check your targets after the first stage.  some matches may have a spare bay where you can check.  not sure of the legality, but maybe ask the RO if you can fire a test shot before you make ready for the COF.

I just got a Staccato XL (5.4") two weeks ago and it shoots softer/flatter than my P and XC.  It is a pure joy to shoot.

the xc is 5" barrel and then a comp, or 5" with the comp/port?  i'd think just slightly shorter than the xl but with a comp/port, the xc would be the flatter/softer one, but guess not.
