  1. Stage 4 was to engage all steel first with pistol. Then engage all paper with rifle. Ok ,so i cleared the steel with my G35 ,abandon pistol, transition to my AR , shot the first 4 paper on the right , while running to the left for the last 3 I started to reload a glock mag into my AR, trying to "fit" it in and could hear some giggling behind me. I just wish it was caught on flim. It would be a good addition to a blooper video im working on.

  2. In the end, I found the deal of the century on an old SVI limited build and have decided to dedicate myself to shooting limited for next season.

    Good choice ! LOL !

You didn't want a long dust cover? Just wondering , long dust cover or even a tungsten guide rod , won't make a difference for my shooting.

  3. That's why I said " it seemed". At the time , I haven't tried Open. It looked to me like I can't have an excuse for missing , because of a dot. But I love shooting anything with a trigger. So now my Open has the most $$$$ put on one gun. It is different than iron sights. Especially when it comes to stage planning. And the brain has to process quicker ( i guess that's why I'm still in "training wheels").

Some Limited/Production shooters like to look at the " not official " results and see what Open  gun he/she beats. I mean ,who doesn't?  Or , "damn, that production just beat my open" .

I'm shooting my Open this weekend for about 3 months to maybe help my brain speed so I can be faster on my "training wheels"

  4. I say Limited when people ask me the same question. Open seemed like a "no skill" division . But then $5000+ later, got a sweet major9 built. Eventually you"ll have both . LOL ... Open is fun to shoot , it's just that to me it's too much " stuff" on a gun.

  5. Ignore the Libertarians and send the gun to S&Wroflol.gif

If it was my product I would want to see it and evaluate what happened.

Do take a picture of it and hang it above your press though.

Its good to hear everyone involved is OK and I hope S&W rebuilds your M&P and charges a modest fee.

    Keith

Ignore the commifornians and eat the loss because thats what people do when they screw up. If anyone is to blame its the guy who reloaded the damn bullet and had his son shoot it. "Libertarian" really you want to go there? Rebuild what, The gun is a loss. I think the gun should be mounted above the reloading press to remind yourself what happens when you screw up!

Yep. Ignorance is what caused the Kaboom .....

  6. I know the general tendency is to go with the reloader at fault, but the quality of the WWB I have seen lately is less than spectacular. My son was shooting some WWB last month and in a box of 100 we picked out 3 rounds that were not crimped.

Like I said , be anal on your reloading . You would have caught the 3 rds that were not crimped if you case guaged every single round ..... B)

  7. I don't want to sound like a prick but how would this failure be in any way shape or form S&W's responsibility to "Take Care Of"? That amount of damage can only be caused by a compressed double charge. If I had to bet on who would be more probable in producing a compressed double charged round it wouldn't be Winchester. This is an expensive, and thankfully not an injuring, lesson to pay close attention when reloading your ammunition. Far too many people slip into a distracted vegetative mental state when reloading because its monotonous and boring then end up paying the price with these kind of dangerous failures. Keep alert and pay attention to what you are doing while reloading or suffer the consequences.

Be thankful that nobody was seriously injured during this accident. Guns can easily be replaced. Fingers, hands, eyes, and other body parts are not easily replaced once damaged.

    Agreed ........

Gomer, you should be more anal on reloading . I'm not even a fan of loading 500rds of ammo in 1hr... A 550 is good enough for me . 100rds. in 30min(sometimes more) . EVERY case is checked for powder/double charge before the bullet goes on top. I even use an LED head light . My son is also 13, if that happened to him , it would be my fault . And his mom would probably run me over.....

  8. It takes me 3.8 gr of N320 with the Lee TL356-124-TC to reach similar PF, and it feels like my gun may blow up at any moment with that load. I stopped using that combination.

That's weird... I use that exact load, with an OAL 1.080" ...through my G17 with a KKM... Nice recoil. Slightly softer than a 124 MG CMJ with 4.2gr N320 at the same PF.

Does not work in a G34. Keyholes.Don't know why but a slightly slower powder like W231 does the fix.

  9. I've tried the SP-01 and really loved it . It's like cheating:good trigger, long dust cover, metal frame, light slide. I WILL buy one eventually . It will probably have less mileage like my 2011's though. I really don't think I'll give up my Glocks. It keeps me from being "spoiled". I can jump from Glock to SA. SA to Glock not so easy.

  10. I have been struggling with my reloads with the new platform. (2011) I am really having to reach for the mag button.

While doing some dry fire today I tried hitting the mag release with my left thumb. It works really well and is much faster for me.

I know it is outside the "norm" but can anybody point to any serious pitfalls?

I've experimented this and really liked it. Works really well on the 2011 platform. If there was a time loss, it wasn't noticeable for me. Just a tap on the mag release as my weak hand leaves the grip position on it's way to a fresh mag. I like that I maintain my grip and keeping my thumb on the thumb safety.

Although it does not work on the Glock platform. Fast tap on the mag release makes the mag stuck halfway out.

  11. If you are already looking for a 2011 Open gun, do that. You'll just waste money converting your glock to open. You mentioned you just picked up a reloader too. spend it on bullets and powders.

+1 ... I got the Jäger kit with KKM for my G17.. NOT happy...not so accurate , ejection issues, and it doesn't drive nearly as smooth as a 2011 open gun....I am a very hardcore Glock fan, but a Glock open ? I'm selling my kit for $500 with less than 500rds fired.... So I can buy more ammo for my Major9 2011 ......

  12. Thanks to all that replied, So here is what i found out. Gun runs great with out the cmore mount. Gun will cycle all kinds of ammo factory - 9mm major. I took the cmore mount off and recorded my ejection pattern. 1 in 15 would go straight up or over the left side of the gun i also watched it very carefully. So to make sure i could replace the big cmore with the micro dot mount I took the cmore off and cut the back of the mount off where the micro dot mount ends gun ran 100% for 200 rounds of all types of ammo. Bottom line i am getting a SJC micro dot mount and a STS, or fastfire just need to do some research and see which is the better option. Thanks again, Oh and my chrono is on the way.......

I have the Jäger Open kit for the G17 with the STS , and it still have ejection issues .

  13. I have the same , g17 KKM with 3 port comp. 124 MG CMJs but with 7.0 AC. And same issues. I did not spend the tme to diagnose the problem , I just went back to shooting Limited/Production. But just recently I found on this forum that some fixes are tweaking the ejector, changing to a Carver ejector, changing to the older style non-loaded indicator extractor, using a .40 bearing, and / or stiffer plunger spring . I believe the posts are in the Open Guns category.

  14. Gave away my Sevigny set up. I was having a hard time with 8" steel at 20-25yds. I think it was because of the wide rear notch. Then went with the Dawson set up. Now no problems . Later I find that there was a much narrow Sevigny rear. But too late now.

  15. I find it stupid that we are using a rule that sets a requirement on the amount of target that must be visible (so that people aren't leaving 1" of A zone around a no shoot) to remove the possibility from completely removing a set of targets from availability. Why have ports, or walls or anything else?

    +1. Exactly my thinking

  16. Need to know if this would be No-Penalties misses , Penalties misses, or simply

    bad stage design.

T1 and T2 are visible only through shooting port "A" . P1(activator) and T3 are visible only

through shooting port "B"...When P1 is activated , port "A" closes...If a shooter activates port"A" to close, T1 and T2 disappears without having to engage them first, there is no turning back. Is this EVIL? Or is it even legal?

I do know that appearing/disappearing targets are No-penalties such as drop-turners and some swingers . But how would this be ruled?

  17. As a last resort this sounds like a good idea... I don't see where it could do any harm.

    Just thinking out loud here:

    2. Plugging the only exit for pressure on a blocked barrel then setting off an unknown charge can only increase the barrel pressure and may( I said "may") egg the barrel. At worse may split the barrel if the pressure is too high.

    3. High pressure may also bleed back thru the primer, or split the case of the rescue round and damage the gun. That is why high pressure loads cause damage. I believe Mr.Elmer Keith blew out several guns by over powering loads and that was on revolvers not closed semi autos.

I always thought that it was pressure(powder) that is used to propel the bullet out of a barrel. Isn't it basically the same thing, but with a much more OAL no matter where the bullet is lodged. Just using a low charge to get the bullet out. I popped one out to about 15 yards.
