Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. When I bought mine, Mark showed me that you can slide the carrier around, on your body, for stages like you describe. As you can see in the photo in post #1 the back is hard plastic, and you can slide it around, if it's not cinched down too tight. For a stage like you describe, you could have the carrier on your side, shoot prone, then slip the carrier to your front while moving to the shotgun. If that's too much, you could probably start with the carrier on your chest instead of your ab and have it out of your way.
  2. Well, I'm not getting my thumb stuck anymore. I think it was just a practice issue. My shotgun wouldn't run AA 2 3/4 dram #8. Out of the 20 I tried, it only cycled once, most just stayed in the chamber. No issues with Winchester Super X 3 1/4 dram #7 1/2, I shot over 40 of those. Federal Target Load 3 dram # 7 1/2 ran pretty smoothly but had a few hang ups, where the shell wouldn't fully eject. Next, I need to test some reduced recoil slugs. Overall, I'm happy with this shotgun. I'll take your advice and deburr/polish before messing with the ports.
  3. Just got my CZ 712 Utility, yesterday. I've got the Nordic +4 extension on order. It feels nice and I've been practicing my reloads and only getting my thumb caught when I try 2x load with support hand. I'm hoping that's just a training issue because I've just started. Also, I haven't shot it yet so I'm not going to do any modifications just yet, but two mods I think might be necessary are opening the gas ports, and adjusting the safety. One question: Are ya'll just using a 7/64 drill bit to ream out the gas ports? My understanding is that this is the size of the ports. Thanks in advance
  4. Central Texas Pistol Club? They've got a Steel Challenge 2nd weekend I'm planning on trying out in January. I guess I'm luckier than I thought I just got to find something on the 1st Saturday and my dance card will be full each month
  5. I've got a 1300 Defender I used at my first couple of matches. It's good except for the lack of chokes. Midwest Gun Works sells 1300 barrels but the ones with choke for the Defender are out of stock. A person could get the barrel threaded, but that's practically half the cost of a pump shotgun. Shotshell size probably depends on the match director or range officer, but I'm guessing they won't let you go lower than 6. If you find a stash of barrels let me know
  6. Hello all, I've been lurking for a while and wanted to introduce myself. My name's Frank, and I'm in Central Texas. I'm mainly interested in 3 gun and I'm lucky enough to be near two great clubs with 3 gun matches: Texas Multigun in Liberty Hill and Copperas Cove Pistol Club. I'll probably venture out into IPSC/USPSA pistol matches soon (or whatever else I can find). I just shot the Fallen Brethren 3 Gun match and had a great time watching the more experienced shooters in my squad. The next big match I'll be at is the Texas Multigun Larue match. Hopefully I'll have replaced my Saiga by then and shoot Tac-Optics, instead of Open. I'm still learning, but I hope to contribute constructively to this forum.
