  1. - I also read (from the chronoman tips?) to paint the inside flat back.

Yup, it was "The Chronoman Report, June 2008" Front Sight Sept/Oct 2008 Page 68

"... but UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES PAINT THE INTERIOR WHITE! "

Caps his, not mine. I think he meant it

Cool, mine is a dull green.

  2. Hi Alan,

I may be geezing here but I seem to recall that someone recommended to paint the inside of the box flat black to eliminate any reflections.

    Later,

    Chuck

I used gloss paint on the outside of the box to reflect the glare. :roflol:

  3. Ingenious on the screen spacing.

I like the setup but how heavy is it and is it easy to transport?

I used 1x2 pine and 5mm plywood. one person can lift and move it, it is just bulky. I did put four handles on the sides that you can see in two the pics to get an idea.

  4. Alan,

How will you power the chronograph's and any lights? With a generator?

I found this neat little invention called "batteries" LOL Just kidding Tim.

CED supplies a battery set with their infrared screens

  5. How does the chrono compensate for the close distance between screens? CED has 2' and 4' bars and yours look to be 1'. There were comments here on the forum about increasing the accuracy of readings by increasing the distance between screens.

The screen pairs are setup to be on 2' centers, if you number the screens 1, 2, 3, 4

Screens 1 and 2 are the start screens and 3 and 4 are the stop screens. so the pairs are 1, 3 and 2, 4 with an offset of 6" between the sets.

  6. Do you notice different readings between using the chrono in the box, and out of it ?

I will do that testing in a week or so.

When I tested the this setup with my airsoft I got 300fps with a difference between two the two chronographs of less than 1fps

  7. Sounds like it's shaping up to be a great match, and should be doable from Northern NJ.

This will be my first major match (with prize tables, awards, etc.) - assuming all the prizes and awards are given on Sunday evening after all have shot, do the Fri/Sat shooters need to stick around through Sunday, or will prizes/awards be mailed out?

Prize table base on performance/order of finish...

    Alan,

Will "performance/order of finish" be broken out into divisions and classes, or will the Open and Limited GMs/Masters be hoarding all the bootie?

    Aaron,

I will have an explanation shortly.

    Alan

  8. I am interested in the configuration of the Chrono boxes.

    How are they built?

Are the screens interlaced or set end to end.

    Are the screens aligned?

I will post pics of the chrono box I just built for the VA MD Section and my personal use. this evening.

I tested the box with my airsoft and the readings were generally less tan 1fps different I even moved the chronos between the skyscreen sets and the readings stayed pretty much the same.

I will test the chronos and box this Fri prior to the start of the VA MD Section and will update with those actual results.

  9. I believe that in both cases, a slap in the face with a wet fish is the appropriate response. Now if I could just get someone to add that to the rule book we would be all set.

    Carp? Grouper?

Maybe the more extreme - a hammerhead?

Has to be a hammerhead until science comes up with a 2x4 fish

  10. Haha I would be terrified to shoot that in my 40 open gun let alone a glock.

If you use longshot you will need three items for safety,

Shooting Glasses to protect your eyes

ear protection (double plug would be recommended)

and a mouth guard to keep all of your teeth in your head LOL

  11. If you want to be squaded with some one please follow th efollowing proceedure. ONE PERSON will email me a list of all those people that want to be on the same squad. ( not each person) I will do my best to get everyone together, it has not been a problem in the past. It will be a great match with lots of challenging stages.

    thanks

    dean

Dean, what is the address we should use?

    area8mg@gmail.com is not working.

    Thanks!

The area8mg@gmail is an email address the I setup for the Area 8 Multigun Championships. I check it pretty much every evening and I have only seen three emails since it was announced that the Area 8 Multigun Championship was cancelled. If I was to receive any email regarding the match he is running on that weekend I would forward them to Dean.

  12. I'm not going to complain about how far it is, I have my plane ticket, racking up lots of sky miles.

I have not sent in my entry yet, trying to figure out if this match is more Open or Limited friendly. If you have been to the Double Tap Championship that is definately a limited gun match, open close shots fast a furious. Texas State Open is tight tough and littered with no shoots, Open gun friendly. Any suggestions?

Is there a prize table, and if so is it order of finish or random drawing? Guns and slides?

Is the range compact or do I need to bring my 4 wheeler to get around?

    Ron,

Still the match staff are still working on the stage designs. But it should be a fairly neutral match.

Prize table base on performance/order of finish Have some guns already committed, 6 C-More Certs, $1300 worth of Montana Gold certs. One custom gun to be given away by drawing to the competitors that shoot the match. 4 Ced Timers, 2 CED Chronos and more stuff to come

Range is compact enough so no four wheeler needed. 7 of the bays in a horsehoe layout.

Send in your app and if you need or want to change your division, no problem you can do that up to firing your first shot.

    See you there!!!

  13. I totally agree with the interpretation of the rules.

What I don't see is a Major match placement that agrees with the bump.

I just want to know how this works if the criteria set forth in the rules isn't met.

    Tom,

I would recommend that you ask the USPSA office. That is where the decisions are made as to which matches are used. The USPSA BoD has no involvement on the decision of the matches to use for classifications

  14. Here are three others that are GM based on match performance yet their average is not GM. So there is no conspiracy here.

  15. My Caspian .40 mags (built by Jim Anglin -- he's "jjanglin" here on the Forum) hold 20 rounds. I find the UPLULA mag loader very helpful. Seating a full mag with one round in the chamber requires some extra 'oomph'; OK on (LA)MR, but any mags that I have on the belt for reloading during a stage contain only 18-19 rounds.

The Blade-Tech DOH for a government 1911 works well. I've not tried any of the race holsters, but look at Travis Tomasie on the cover of one of the recent Front Sight magazines. He shoots a Caspian and uses a race-type holster.

In looking for gear that fits a Caspian gun/holster, ask other Caspian users before buying. The frame and mags are shaped different enough from other 'brands' that there is not a universal fit. Even holsters and mag pouches that say they fit Caspian may require some amount of modification before that fit is solid and secure. I've had people tell me that 'X' piece of gear will fit Tanfoglio and Para, therefore it will fit Caspian ... and it does not fit, at least not 'right out of the box'.

Parts: Caspian Arms is a Forum dealer. Jim Anglin in Omaha reconstructed my gun and built the mags. The other recommendation is Evolution Gun Works (EGW) in Pennsylvania.

Thanks FranDoc, lots of useful info. Jim Anglin is who built the gun. Don't know about the 5 mags I got with it? I like the newer race holsters...ie..ghost..limcat stealth...etc.. but not sure if any of those will work with the Caspian? Anyone have any experiance with these?

Any that fit a 1911 trigger guard should work with the Caspian, the only difference is the squared trigger guard vs the round trigger that is the standard for most 1911's. The front and bottom dimensions should be the same regardless of whether it is a round vs squared trigger guard.

  16. To increase the mag capacity to 20 rds, contact either Henning or Beven Grams. The Grams follower and Spring for the Tanfoglio magazines will increase the capacity to 20rds.

EGW also makes the mag wells for the Caspian Hi-cap.

  17. :surprise:

Aftecs are ok, I havent had any complaints that I can think of with the 9mm major guns, In my(personel)

guns I only use the Dawson extractors they have a longer vetical hook than any of the other ones

that I know of, This helps with 9mm and super comp type brass.

Once ya get your extractor tuned, leave it alone except for cleaning, as long as your brass is

gettin out of the gun 3 or 4 feet your ok. I do look at the extractpr

tunnel in new builds pretty close and use a small flex hone to cleans them up, most extractor

tunin take a "wee" bit of experience to do right and each gun caliber is a animal of its own.

    Jim/Pa :devil::roflol:

    Jim,

You let my secret out of the bag :surprise:

Same reason I use the Dawson in my 9Major's
