  1. And, the response from CZ-USA regarding getting the gun approved for USPSA production:

"We have to wait until we have 2000 of them produced before it will be able to be on the approved list for Production, apparently IPSC doesn’t have that requirement. We’ll get it submitted when it meets that requirement.

    Thanks,

  2. Odds are I will be shooting L10 Minor. Oh well...

This can't be your only CZ is it? I've got CZs for 4 divisions

Lol...I'm just a po'boy. This is definitely my only CZ.

    Edit to add:

Just received the below response from John regarding the two lists. So, I will be shooting Lim 10 at the sectional.

"Sorry Shannon, one list is completely different than the other. CZ USA is usually to ones that apply for approval for our list.

    John"
  3. IPSC has the Shadow Line guns approved for IPSC Production.

    Stuart,

What does that mean as far as USPSA, if anything? Once it's approved for IPSC is it approved for USPSA? I know nothing about IPSC other than I hate their targets.

I just received this from John Amidon:

    "Shannon,

On the current approved Production gun list, there are several shadow models, I have not received any new compliance forms from CZ indicating this handgun, so they either have not produced the required number or have not gotten to send me the signed forms.

    Regards,

    John Amidon"

  4. Any word on when or if these will be legal for production?

Yeah, that's the burning question. I sent an inquiry to the NROI and received the below response. I am hoping to have an answer by October's NC Sectional but I'm not holding my breath. Odds are I will be shooting L10 Minor. Oh well...

"Shannon, I am forwarding your email on to John Amidon, he would be the one to answer this. Thank You, Deanna"

TerryT - did you get your gun yet?

  5. Another update.

Got back from vacation today and my new sight was here. Not sure why I was worried about changing the sight. It was a very simple process. The hardest part is getting the new sight into the notch. It is a VERY tight fit. Mallet is definitely required.

I went with the 1.0 x 6.5mm (.255) front sight. It works perfectly with my 147gr MG's. POA=POI out to 25 yards (I could'nt go any further as the indoor range stops at 25).

First pic is 5 rounds from 7 yrds, offhand. Not exactly rapid fire but 5 very quick paced shots. Just enough pause to let my sights settle.

2nd pic is 5 rounds, offhand, slow fire from 20 yards. The head on that target is about 4 - 4.5 inches (quarter for size comparison)

I'm very happy with the results. At least I'll be able to use the rest of my 147's.

  6. So, another update (still trying to get that video review done).

I had another abomination of a match at the Spartanburg Showdown (IDPA match) last weekend. Very first stage of the day (in the rain, no less), I fire one shot, have a jam. Gun won't go into battery. Tap, rack and still won't go into battery. Tap, racked 2 more times and still not going into battery. At that point I just unload and show clear. 70 penalty pts in mikes and 7 FTE's ended my match before it even began. I got a bullshit procedural 2 stages later and just decided to call it a day and left. Turns out....I inadvertently allowed a handful of rounds, that didn't pass my case gauging, get into my match ammo. I have no clue what so ever how that happened. That has never happened to me before. Very hard lesson learned.

Sorry TerryT for bailing on you and not letting you see the gun. I wasn't in the best frame of mind.

Anyway, as I noted in earlier posts my gun shoots really high. I have to hold at 6 oclock in order to get hits. That makes shooting at competition speed, and hitting precision shots, near impossible (at least for me, at any type of speed). I can't shoot like that. So, I went ahead and ordered a taller front sight; 1.0 x 6.5mm (smaller diameter fiber optic in order to get more precise aiming). Should be here on Tuesday or so.

I also, on the advice of Stuart and others here, got a hold of some 124gr Montana Gold's and loaded them with 5.0grs of WSF at AOL of 1.125. MUCH better results. Pretty much point of aim = point of impact with the 124's. Hard to believe the difference. I still, for some unknown reason, am pulling the second shot of quick double taps to the left. I need to fix that problem asap. But, controlled shots are very accurate with the 124's.

So, when my new sight gets here I will install it and see how the 147's shoot with it. If POA=POI with that set up I will leave it alone and roll with it. If not, I will put the stock sight back on, sell or trade my 147gr and get some 124gr and go with that.

Sorry for the long winded post. Figured people, especially TerryT, might find the info useful.

  7. I suggest you mark your leadoff magazine with 11 to distinguish it from reload magazines containing 10.

A paster on the floorplate will do well enough.

My Plastic M&P has a couple of rusted magazines from The Incident's house fire and I LAMR with them, figuring they will be less of a loss if stepped on than the nice black stainless mags unhurt by the fumes and water.

I was shooting USPSA so I did mark the basepads of my 11 rounders.. Your idea is a very good one as I've seen a number of shooters fumbling...AT THE LINE...because they grabbed the wrong mag(s).

I bought the blue base plates for this very purpose. Now, there is no need to even think twice. Blue base plate is 11 rounds and all others are 10 rounds.

Cool...I'm a red kinda guy...do the come in red?

What gun are you shooting? If a Glock, I have only seen the black, blue and orange. See here : http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=190

  8. Just wanted to give a quick update. I took the Shadow Line to an outdoor range yesterday for some live fire practice. First live fire practice where I could actually see the front FO sight (not counting the USPSA match last weekend which was a disaster). Indoor shooting just sucks.

Shot strictly plate racks from 10, 15 and 25 yards. Plates were 8'. Very first mag was at 10 yards. Missed every plate. I'm thinking what in the world is going on here. Friend I was shooting with was standing behind me and noticed that every shot was high. Dead center of plate but high. Interesting. Remember I am coming from a Glock and have always held my sights at dead center bullseye. So, I change my POA to 6 o'clock. Bingo. Dead center hit. Do a couple more draws (from concealment since I am practicing for an IDPA match this weekend) with dead center hits..holding at 6 o'clock.

Like a a light bulb going off. I have no clue why I ddin't realize this at the indoor range. Maybe due to not being able to see the front sight or just me assuming it was me with a new gun, etc.

I still have a tendency, if I am rushing and do not make sure of my grip, to use too much trigger finger which is throwing some shots left. I am also, when shooting at competition speed, reverting back to bullseye POA which I will just have to get accustomed to. But, I actually have some confidence now. It will take some time to get my full speed up to where I am used to but at least I can hit my tagets now. I even had a couple of strings from the 25 yrd line where I hit all 6 plates with 6 shots.

I have some video that I will post tonight showing some practice results. I am also still working on the full review. But, to say the least I am estatic about my new found confindence with my CZ. The accuracy that CZ's are known for is finally showing up. I just have to do my part.

For anyone else interested in the Shadow Line. This gun does not have an extended slide stop. With my Glock I was great at doing a slide lock reload and being able to release the slide with one hand (my grip hand thumb), just as the mag is seated, all in one smooth motion. I cannot do that with the Shadow Line. The slide stop sits too far forward and I have to either adjust my grip, A LOT, or I have to do it with my weak had after seating the mag (which really slows me down). So, I ordered an SP-01 extended slide stop from Stuart which should be here soon. Just fyi.

    Now, questions for you folks.

    - Should I stick with the sights and just get accustomed to shooting with a 6 o'clock hold? Or, should I see about getting a lower front sight to raise the POA/POI (if one even exists)?

I am not sure what I should do. I know that at speed I am reverting to my old POA. I know training will correct that but I'm torn on whether or not to correct the issue by changing sights.

    - The factory accuracy test paperwork shows that the test was done with NATO 124gr bullets. I am not hip on 9mm trajectories except for what I shoot which is MG 147gr. Would the POA/POI vary so greatly just from going from a NATO 124gr to my 147gr ammo? I don't recall the paperwork saying what the POA was. Maybe I missed it? Is there a standard for that when testing at the factory?

  9. I suggest you mark your leadoff magazine with 11 to distinguish it from reload magazines containing 10.

  10. Thanks for the replies guys.

The more I think about this, and after spending about 1 hr and 15 minutes tonight dry firing, I definitely think my problems are a combination of my grip and trigger squeeze. Tonight I was very conscious/methodical with my grip and trigger squeeze. If I don't make a perfect grip on the draw, and try dry firing at speed, I definitely see a lot of movement in my sights while pressing the trigger. It seems that a bad draw with my CZ is penalized a lot more than it was with my Glock (not sure why that could be).

Assuming I make a good draw it seems that I have the best trigger squeeze, with almost no sight movement, with just the center of my trigger finger pad being used. I definitely can't go as far as the first joint. That reeks havoc on my squeeze.

Now, I say this even though I said the same thing after dry firing Friday night before my match on Saturday. But, I think being so focused on the grip/trigger tonight makes a big difference. I did a lot of slow, methodical drawing and firing tonight. In a way, it's almost like starting over again.

I have a big IDPA match in Spartanburg, SC next weekend so, on top of dry firing every night, I will be going to an outdoor range on Wed and Thurs this week to see if I see any improvement.

I will give an update if anyone is interested.

  11. Good question. I am running it in production until I am told that I can't. If that happens then I will just run it in Limited 10 minor.

So, I ran the gun for the first time in a USPSA match yesterday. To say that I had bad match would be a massive understatement. First the positives:

    - Gun ran flawlessly. Not a single problem.

    - I had no problem with my MG 147gr FMJ loads at a OAL of 1.15. I had already loaded 400 of those rounds so I ran them. Glad I did. I read where some people had issues at that length so that was my biggest concern

The negatives (really just one big negative):

    - I couldn't hit the side of a barn. Absolutely horrid. An example of that is the stage where we had some paper targets and two plate racks. On the two plate racks I went through 2 magazines (21 rounds) and, of 12 plates, I left 8 plates standing. I could have kept shooting but I decided not to waste more ammo.

Some background; I am not a noob shooter. I am an A class shooter (82%), and a 3 gun IDPA master. So, I understand the basics of trigger control, grip, etc.

Every thing I shot was either 2C's, a C/D or one in the A zone and one way left either a barely made C or a D. I never had issues with the double action pull shot. It was normally a good hit. But, something is happening when I am shooting at speed or under stress (something that certainly didn't happen with my Glock). I am sure going from a Glock to the CZ takes some getting used to. I am not not sure if my grip is not right, if my trigger pull is not right (too much trigger finger or too little) or a little of both.

All I know is I need to figure it out and fast. I will try and drift my sights a tad to the right but I tend to think it is a shooter (me) flaw more than the sights/gun.

Anyone else go from a glock to a CZ and experience this?

  12. My Shadow Line arrived today. The trigger, and specifically the SRT, is amazing... I will post a detailed video review after I shoot my USPSA match tomorrow. I did shoot 100 rounds through it at the indoor range. From 5, 7, 10 and 15 yards I had great groups. One big ragged hole that was just slightly left of center. My group at 25 yrds wasn't that great. The 10 rounds were probably all within a 8 in. circle but they were even more left. I think I may need to drift the rear sight just a tad. It didn't help that the lighting was really bad. I had zero front sight to go by, the FO didn't show up at all in the poor lighting. But, I still think I need to drift the rear sight a little.

  13. For example, if you went through the trouble to drill out a guide rod, then added mercury up to the point that it weighed the same as a stock one, you would have a legal weight guide rod, plus the slight benifit of the dead blow effect of one.

Sorry to bump this older thread but I don't understand this at all. What is "dead blow effect"? Do you know if someone that actually did this?

  14. I would think they do not intend to make reloads flat foot behind cover, they need to make that clear though.

With R8 they now allow reloads in the open, as long as your moving and took out round dumping. Both of which would be much more prevalent if the only other choice was to stand in just one spot behind cover.

I think that is exactly what they intended. I think that is how they decided to remove the evil round dumping......"shoot as many as you like to get to slide lock early.....but you have to reload before you move from that position."

Is that, in fact, what they did? "Round Dumping" is no longer a penalty? Shooter can shoot until they are happy (assuming the stage isn't limited)?

  15. And, on top of what Stuart said, it has the 85 style trigger.

This doesn't help you much at the moment but I have one on the way and should be here Friday. I will post some pics and try to post a detailed review (including the short reset trigger).

  16. I just ordered a CZ 75 Shadow Line. Will be at my FFL on Friday. After reading this thread I had Stuart include a spare extractor, extracor spring, slide stop and TRS.

Little early, maybe? Yes. But, like CZinSC said, I don't want a match go to crap because of a cheap part.

  17. CUDALUBE...try it out. Best stuff going www.shoootingsportsinnovations.com Have been using it for several months on my G34 and Edge. Its works great in any weather conditions. Anyone that shot the NC Section on Sunday last fall knows what a monsoon it was and the gun ran flawless.

This. Best lube I have used. Stays in place, doesn't attract a lot of dirt and works in any weather condition. Found out recently that it's extremely useful on a reloading press. Good stuff..

  18. Thanks for the replies. As to asking other shooters....we did have one master class shooter at our event this weekend (Morgan Allen). He does give classes once a quarter and I have been added to his email list so hopefully I can get to his class soon.

  19. Hi all.

New guy here from the Charlotte, NC area. I went to my first IDPA match this past weekend and it just so happened to be a classifier. While I am not new to shooting, having shot a little USPSA and Steel Challenge, this was my first time in any type of classifier type match.

I did pretty well. Shot in the SSP division (CZ 75 SP-01 Phantom). My numbers were as follows:

    Total score: 131.75 First stage: 39.35 5(Points Down) Second stage: 30.47 15(PD) Third stage: 40.43 23(PD) SSP

Places me in the Marksman category.

I felt pretty comfortable during the shoot. The biggest issues that I have the "draw and aim" and follow up shots. I have a hard time drawing and getting a quick sight picture. I have to fumble for a second to get a good fix on my front sight and of it being on target.

Follow up shots: getting two to body one to the head sections of the stages. Even though a 9mm has very little recoil I can't seem to get the knack of the muzzle rising and coming back down on target.

Anyway, great site here. Any help would be appreciated.
