  1. Thanks, eerw. That's what I was thinking. I guess Tanner must have converted his Shadow Custom to SA only. Otherwise, I'd love to try that flat trigger.

Tanner... does the "flat" trigger change the pre-travel/reach of Double Action? Thanks.

flat trigger is single action only.

not enough travel for DA stroke.

  2. Tanner... does the "flat" trigger change the pre-travel/reach of Double Action? Thanks.

I sold my G35 to pick up a custom shadown, couldn't be happier, eats anything, never had a failure except for a few bad primers.(4k rounds so far) I installed the flat trigger and think that improved it 100%. Just waiting to have my slided milled and this gun is done.

  3. Thanks, Daniel. Try inserting the mag with the top tilted back a bit. So, when I reload, sometimes I dip the muzzle of the gun a bit and that yields a similar result. In fact, if you just remove one of the grip panels, you can slowly insert the mag (loaded or not) and see whether the rubbing happens.

    Hey Jastaute,

I will check out my Shadow Target for this problem when I pick it up this Friday. So one can feel it hitting if you insert the mag more vertical/towards the back?

    Daniel

  4. Thanks for the quick reply, eerw. Here are three pictures of the "rubbed" area. What should I do? It does not prevent the magazine from going into the well. It just partially impedes it and slows down the insertion process; and, I need to position the magazine more "up-right."

  5. All,

Have a quick question. I have a Shadow Target. I just noticed when I load the magazine, with ammo in it, the ammo base/plate barely hits the inside, top of the magwell. This is especially so when the magazine is inserted at an angle. The part of the frame/magwell rubbed is located at the top of the magwell opening, just above the magazine brake pin. Further, the frame finish has been rubbed off in that area.

Is this normal? Any input is appreciated.

    Ken

p.s. the top/back-side of the magazine also barely rubs the same frame area.

  6. For now, I'd be more than happy to settle for just its trigger and trigger location. They would be great on my Shadow Target (yes, I realize mine is DA/SA).

  7. WARDOG...sorry to hear about your "lemon" Shadow. In case you did not know, here in the US, we call those one-off, isolated bad products "lemons." In my case, my Shadow has acceptable finish -- for a service pistol --, nice trigger (after a trigger job), and aligned grip screws. Nonetheless, I still wish the double action pull is shorter, lighter, and the single action pull has less pre-travel. For what it is, the Shadow is working well for me. As a new owner, my performance at the range thus far indicates that I am shooting better with my Shadow that with my XDM.

And, CZ-USA purportedly has really good reputation for customer service. I guess the Italian counter-part needs to learn something from CZ-USA. Perhaps, you should try to ask your vendor to replace your Shadow. Why not give it a shot? Good luck.

Before buying the shadow I bought aluminium grips, and other spare parts. I've just installed the grips, and the left grip screw hole is misaligned. It's just a fraction of mm, but enough that tightening the screw was done with much effort and marring the inside of the screw recess on the aluminium grip.

Installing the very same grip panel on my teammate older shadow was a perfect fit.

I will post pics and specs.

As for addressing the issues with cz dealer here..obviously you guys never heard of customer service in Italy..they don't ever answer emails from customers they only talk with firearm dealers.

Don't get me wrong, I think that the shadow is one of the best pistol, however it's impossible not being aware of the decline of QC in newer specimens.

  8. In addition, just got home from the range. I've been shooting better with my 1-week old Shadow Target than with my Springfield XDM 9mm. Of course, I'm still in my 3rd week of handgun ownership. Trying to get better in a hurry.

  9. FWIW... my recently acquired Shadow Target, from CZ Custom, weighs 38.6 oz sans grip, with the aluminum magazine brake, and with the 10-rd magazine. Thus, I have 0.4 oz left for new grips. I have placed an order with Marschal Grips for a pair of their light-weight grips, and have asked Dennis to "shave-off" the checkered areas to accommodate grip tape. I think after it's all said and done, my Shadow should be right at 39 oz. It's possible that it may weigh 39.01 oz -- depending on the scale used. :o)

  10. A noob here, obviously. :o)

I have a question regarding two-handed grip while using isosceles or modified isosceles. Do you bend your shooting hand's wrist slightly outward? I have been watching instructional videos by Todd Jarrett, and have adjusted my grip accordingly. I definitely feel more steady. However, his videos do not address the wrist/hand position.

When you reach straight out using two-handed grip and pointing the muzzle forward, the pistol and your torso are nominally perpendicular. Does it make sense to keep your shooting hand relatively straight and aligned with the forearm, which means the supporting hand will bend/break more outward; thus, the pistol-to-torso relationship is no longer perfectly perpendicular. Consequently, when you sight the target, your head/dominant-eye may tilt a bit toward the shooting hand for alignment. FYI -- I have yet to try it at the range.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

  11. yap...I have already done all those things, except the grips. I'm trying to find a domestic vendor that can provide the 0.4oz grips.

I did some research on making weight with the shadow here is the search is used: http://www.google.com/search?q=making+idpa+weight+with+Cz+sp01&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari

It looks like you will need to change out your guide rod to the stock plastic one, use 10 round mags, and possibly change out the mag break to an aluminum version used in a CZ 75. That should get you pretty much there, if not you may have to try the

factory plastic grips or the .40 oz wood grips sold online.

  12. Thanks, Daniel. That is definitely my plan. The extended firing pin is an interesting one. FWIW, I'm also looking into the polymer magwell used on the Tactical model; I wonder whether it will fit on the Shadow. CZ Custom is about to make some $$$ from me in that besides the typical back-up accessories, I also need to pickup 10-rd mags for IDPA.

    Ken,

I would just go ahead with getting a 11lb recoil and 13lb main. Your gun already has the next increment higher (14#recoil/15#main). So if for some reason they don't work out just swap it back. They 13# main spring is going to be the one that will decrease your DA pull and help the SA slightly. You already have a good DA for a broken in shadow target. Please share your trigger pull after the spring swap :D. I am still deciding if I should get an extended firing pin ($20 from czcustom) so I can go even lower than 13 lb on my main spring.

    Daniel

  13. That's great. For me, as a novice shooter, I'd be ecstatic to have a 6# DA and my current 3.7# SA, but with less take-up. Any input on this is greatly appreciated. Though, I do realize that shooting factory loads may not help much in my case.

Shadow Target is a pretty cool gun

a little more love on that trigger can get it to 5# =/- for the DA and 2# SA.

  14. Dachness,

    Thanks for the spring data.

    - DA: This, too, is my first DA/SA gun. In short, I don't like the DA as it is stiff and long. Hence, I am considering the 13# Main. My only other handgun is a Springfield XDM, which has had a trigger job of 4# done to it.

    - SA: As you said, other than the take-up, it is very, very nice. My trigger pull is 7.11# DA and 3.6# SA.

    - Coco-bolo grips: It's pretty good. However, I think I'd still need to add some grip tap to the front and back straps. In addition, as I want to shoot IDPA with my Shadow, I am looking for lighter weight grips. My Shadow with a 10-round mag, sans the Coco-bolo grips, weighs 38.6oz. The search is on...

    - Front Sight FO: I think I would like the 1.0mm better as that's what is on my XDM. Nonetheless, I think I'm getting used to it.

    Update:

My Shadow Target arrived at my FFL on Thursday. I stopped by to check it out. The trigger pull was written as 8 DA 3 SA on the testfire target. My intial impressions are the SA is very nice, once you get past all the takeup. This is my first experience with a DA gun so the DA was very stiff for me. I also noticed some stopping points when slowly pulling through DA. I am not impressed with the DA, however I have been told that dry firing and shooting the gun will solve this. I really like the sight picture. The front FO is the perfect size for me, I have read many people prefer the smaller 1.0mm FO. I have no intention of changing mine.

As far as the controlls go, the mag release is very stiff. I can't reach the slide release unless I adjust my grip.

    dachness,

Please let me know your thoughts after you've had a chance to shoot your Shadow Target with the 11#/13# spring-combination. I'm running my Shadow Target with the stock springs (14#/16#?), but want to look into the 11#/13# combo. For now, I'm only shooting factory loads. btw... can you confirm the stock spring weights of 14#/16# for the Target? Thanks.

    Ken

    Ken,

The stock springs for a Shadow Target are 14lb recoil and 15lb main spring. I plan to shoot some factory ammo I can get for free from a family member and then I will be reloading. How are you liking your shadow so far? Do you like the wooden grips? My gun came with rubber grips, wooden ones were out of stock when I place my order. The wooden grips will be shipped to me when they arrive. I have a set of Red thin aluminum grips that I plan on using.

  15. Wanderer & eerw...thanks for the input.

Just one follow-up question regarding the recoil spring. So, the 13#/15# main spring makes sense. Say, when I switch from 13# to 15# main spring, should I change the recoil spring from 11# to something else? Given the stronger main spring, I'd assume the recoil spring would have to work harder. Right?

    Hey Everyone,

I placed an order for a CZ Shadow Target yesterday from CZ custom. I purchased some extra springs as well as USPSA gear. Rob was kind enough to install the new springs, 11lb recoil and 13lb main(same setup as Shadow Custom). The gun should ship out today and arrive with my FFL around Friday. Once my FFL receives it have have to submit my permit application and wait a grueling TWO WEEKS! I live in Hawaii, so we also are limited to 10 round mags. I also have a set of used CZ custom red aluminum grips I bought so once I get the gun those will go on and I will have a CZ Shadow Custom spec gun with adjustable rear sights.

This is my first center fire gun and I will be reloading for the first time. Regarding shooting in USPSA, I will most likely just shoot at my local clubs meets and not in the official USPSA matches because they are held on Sundays. I would like to get my wife involved in shooting with me so I am looking for a spare inner belt so we can share gear. I was bummed that CR speed doesn't sell just the inner belt.

As for my gear I have the following setup:

A total of 6, 10 round mags (3 used I purchased online/3 included with the gun)

    CR Speed Deluxe belt 36"

Blade Tech DOH with Tek Lock

    CR speed versa pouches (4)

    DA Magnet (1)

For reloading I will be using a lee hand press with Hornady dies. This will be to get me started and down the road if this are going well I may upgrade to a Hornady Lock-N-Load progressive. I have 5k wolf primers, 2k Zero 125g JHP bullets. For powder I am leaning towards Ramshot Silhouette based of a friends recommendation, while still considering N320 and titegroup. For brass I expect to be getting 2 milk crates full of 9mm ammo in the next couple weeks, so I plan on shooting it and using the brass.

    Daniel

  17. Thanks. I already talked to Rob. I believe CZ-USA requested 14/16 for the Target. The Custom has 11/13.

If it is already a cz custom target I would not change those springs, they are probably already 11/13. Call and ask them.

  18. Hi All,

Thinking about changing the recoil and hammer springs to 11# and 13#, respectively, on my Shadow Target. I assume this change will further lighten my DA pull. Will there be any issues with factory ammos (e.g. S&B, Remington, etc.)?

    Thanks,

    Ken
