  1. What I can't understand is why nobody has ever used a beach towel. Is there a requirement that the "concealment garment" stay on for the whole stage? No? Welcome to tactical towel and clothespin time! Beep! Whoosh! And it's off to the races. Suitable for all day wear and I can perform tasks in it too.

  2. Hit factor vs. Time added scoring for you. Assuming you were a revolver shooter you could triple score it to idpa, USPSA, and ICORE. You'd likely come up with different placing there too. Maybe a fun match would be to put several targets of various disciplines up and take the time for each stage and triple or quad score it.

  3. Open up the aftermarket trigger loophole on production and your polymers come right back into favor. Apex FSS is a pretty slick improvement on an M&P and there are other makers for xd and Glock.

This seems like a thinly veiled polymers can't compete against tanfo/cz thread. Seems to me as an ever so occasional production shooter it seems like it has been a cycle of this IS good and that WAS good.

  4. Some guys are just that nice....???

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense of all the endless hours of fiddling I once did.

I'm personally going to go as light as will set off Walmart shelf on my 929 just in case. This archer is going to be a little less concerned with the arrow this time around and more with the finger strength and control.

  5. The outside of the mag tube is just normal carbon steel. I think on the 11-87 that was one of the fixes they came up with, was a (polished?) stainless steel mag tube.

Some guys here have gently scrubbed down the outside of the 1100 mag tube with a green scotch brite pad.

Then they used a motor oil, like Gastrol synthetic detergent motor oil or Mobil 1, to lube the outside of the mag tube. It might be worth it to do a keyword search here for Mobil 1 or Gastrol.

And of course the O-rings like previously mentioned.

It's been a few years since I have disassembled and re-assembled an 1100. IIRC, there are some parts or other seals or metal rings involved that you have to line up the correct way or have facing the correct way. It might be worth a look on YouTube for Remington 1100 assembly videos.

Correct the 11-87 is stainless tube. Different piston setup too.

Triflo is all that I have used for the past 20 years to maintain my guns. It works fairly well at temperature. The fore end is fairly open on those guns. I'd be scared of attracting dirt with a heavier oil. Then again I used to drag mine through the woods and we'd get all kinds of stuff stuck up in there. Those handguard vents are generous.

  6. I inherited a surplus police 870 Wingmaster with an 18 cylinder bore barrel. It look like warmed hell.

I ordered a Boyds stock set, new Remington 28 barrel with Rem-Choke system (2 3/4 or 3 marked barrel - reciever only 2 3/4). I did a little trigger work. Fresh coat of Alumina Hyde.

This is now my favorite field pump gun.

That's a nice little sleeper you've got there...looks express right up until you leave three to five shells hanging in the air with that slick action. The refinish is well done.

  7. Wingmaster vs Express....mainly you'll see the better finish on a wingmaster barrel. Express in the economy line. The 3 inch chambered barrel will serve just fine. It is important to remember that you will not be able to eject the longer shells due to the shorter ejection port. They will chamber and fire, but it will be a one shot deal so to speak. Congratulations on getting the shorter stroked 870! It will be a lot of fun to shoot and when you're on you should be able to keep right with the semiauto guys.

  8. Check the o ring in the gas system for wear and elasticity. Certain solvents can mess this up. Ensure that the piston group is all assembled properly. Sounds like your not getting the best of seals around the piston. Also check to make sure the action is well lubricated and cycles freely. Make sure the outside of the magazine tube is clean and lubricated. I remember my 1100 was not a fan of being too dirty and left uncleaned between shoots, but could run a good 500 rounds of heavy dove loads no trouble. It was the regular cleaning interval that was important.

  9. Just for info, the reshoot did actually happen and that person also happened to win the match.

I would kind of like to know what they did about the other one though.

Yes the reshoot happened and Gordon Carrell won the match over Morgan Allen 224.55 to 226.79. You can read all about it by looking up Gordon Carrell Reshoot. Wasn't there. Didn't see it. Don't have to live with myself for getting a bogus reshoot and taking it to win. Want to know what separates a great shooter from an exceptional one? The ability to influence the match staff to make a call to their benefit.
  10. If you had asked to see the Rules of the match would he have had to fumble through his tactical vest? Did he twitch and randomly exclaim Cover! and then mumble about tactical something or others? I kid...

Because I said so, No! Because I didn't think of it, and It's cheating because I can't do it that fast......famous lines of goobers at a match who happen to be running things.

Not saying it happened this way, but do also consider:

On the flip side it's no fun to have somebody ask 20 questions about what if I do it this way...during the stage brief. As a stage designer you don't always see every little quirk in a stage until after it's on the ground and sometimes you leave a hole in the fence and have to amend on the fly to keep the stage from being circumvented. Local matches should have patience on both sides of the timer.

  11. Sounds sketchy that you get locked into six shot minor for a failed six shooter.

Bet this gets cleared up. After a broken gun though....does it really matter if you go open?

  12. It would be nice, and I think it is a big reason why Les Baer guns are typically guns that you have to order and wait for, but as you have pointed out perhaps not a lot can be expected from the polymer guns?

I think that the polymer guns can be quite a crap shoot. Look at the M&P's...some wouldn't shoot worth a tinker's...

The manufacturers are savvy enough to realize that most people will not see the inaccuracies because they do not have the skill to pick up on the fact that the bullets aren't flying by the sights. Therefore, quality control slips and customer service picks up the scraps. I am just goofy enough to sit there and keep going at it over and over to get things as close as I can before coming to terms that the failure may not be caused by me. Maybe you might just start with an aftermarket barrel and see if that works. Before you do that change the style of target you are shooting at for groups. You may have picked a target that contrasts poorly with your sights. Good luck.

  13. You can do it too, just go easy and don't radically alter the geometry of the hand or sears. Reduction in hammer mass is a good thing, but ensure that you have enough meat remaining to endure the impact on the firing pin...
