  1. http://members.libcom.com/actionpistol/ We shoot the 1st Sunday of each month and the drive time is around 2.5 hours. There are also 3 other clubs within about the same drive time that shoot on the other Sundays. We have a Helicopter Based at Altoona Hospital, so I've made the drive a few times myself. Let me know if I can be of any help. Regards, John~
  2. Thanks for the help guy's. The .356 made a huge difference and I also cleaned the comp so it may be a bit of both. Thanks again, John~
  3. Guy's, Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to just keep the holes and the c-more in the bag. I'm sure the holes will add the extra cooling effect needed on those hot days~
  4. Warpspeed~ Thanks for the info. Basically. What Chriss Said... Must be a PA thing? I had a chance to shoot a doctor last week and it is just as Chriss explained. The GEN 3's do work as stated as Beven has 10,000 rounds down his already and has started the machine work to install them on customer guns. I also like the glass lense and metal body. I think as time progresses we will see more top shooters making the switch as the sights get more round counts without failure. I think the first and second gen's were crap and thats why you dont see then atop many guns. I'm also a non-conformist Thanks~ John Gobbels Another PA guy switching to the doctor:)
  5. Make sure the Firing Pin Spring is in good shape as well. I'm not up on the tech. aspects of why, but I do know the .45 large pistol primer is just that when compared to the "Small" rifle Primer used in .38-S.. "LARGER"~ I think a .45 pin and a new spring would solve your friends problem. Best of luck. John~
  6. I think I'm going to switch from my C-More to the 3rd GEN Doctor sight. I do however want to plug the 6 holes in the lower frame where the C-More mounted to the SVI Frame. Does anyone know the size and pitch for a small allen head bolt that will plug the holes? I picked up a 4mm today but it was a bit large. I'm hoping that someone has already done this task and has the answers.. TIA, John~
  7. Changed to Zero 125g .356 and what an improvement. Groups at 25 yards are now within 2" and I'm happy with the performance.
  8. My current SVI has a Custom Wilson Upper in .45 ACp and is a bushing barrel. I don't plan on switching back to .45, but want to be able if needed. I wanted to do a .40 upper with bull Barrel and everything complete as I don't have an interchangable Breechface. I plan on getting all new magazines. The SVI .40's that I have been looking at are $2500! I was hoping I could get a new top end, dies and mags for 1/2 of that... I'm not one to pinch pennies, but would like to not buy a complete gun if the top end would do? Comments? TY, John~
  9. I'm looking to go to a .40 for limited as I have an SV in .45 that I love, but would like the extra round advantage. I'm looking if there are any draw backs to haveing a .40 top end built on the frame I already have? Thanks in advance. John~
  10. I've always used federal in my limited .45, but I just purchased a thousand Winchester primers as the federals were out of stock. Went to practice on Tuesday and found that about 1 in 3 would not light off. The gun has a 15lb mainspring + the harder Winchester primers = a busted practice night. Proof positive for me that the federals are a must when using in a lighter springed gun. John~
  11. Looking for a source to find .38 Super (.356 dia) JHP. Any rec's would be appreciated Thanks, John~
  12. Josh, Thanks for all the insight. I'll keep you posted.
  13. George, My other 2 C-more railways on the shotgun and AR look fine. I'll switch the dot module out and see if that helps. John~
  14. I shot the gun again tonight and the results were the same. The first group was 1" and then they went all over the place. It seems as the barrel heats up the gun looses it. I'm going to try the .356 and then I guess I need to have the gun looked at. What are my options? Send it back to SV? Have a new Barrel put in? Any help would be appreciated..
  15. Chriss, Thanks for the reply. Well, anyone need 2000 Siera 115 JHP's in .355 ? I'll try loading the Sierra and see how they work, then switch to the .356 and note the results. JG~
  16. Load is Hornady XTP 115 JHP (.355) 8.5 VV-N350 Federal Small Rifle Primer Rem Nickle Cases The first owner told me to use Sierra 115g JHP as that is what he used in the gun, but I have not tried them yet. I did notice that the Hornady 115 XTP just made major (165.8 pf with 8.5g), where as the Sierra had no problem making it according to the first owner (170 pf with the same amount of V V). I am wondering if the Hornady is a bit smaller than the Sierra, thus not sealing and loosing power and also not obtaining the same level of accuracy as Josh stated above with a larger round. The gun has a 3 port barrel and a 6 port comp. Thanks,
  17. Joshua, I only have tried one load at this time and will try some different combinations with the gun. The frame to slide fit seems tight, but I do have some movement of the Hybra comp barrel left to right within the slide. Not much, but I can grab the comp and get a little movement. Chriss, Not sure of the dot size as it was used when I purchased it (No paperowrk with the gun about the c-more). I did notice that the dot is not completly round. It seems to have a small area thats a bit ragged on one side. I was wondering if the c-more could be bad? It does seem a bit beat?????? Thanks, John~
  18. Pat, Thanks for the reply. It is my first open gun, but I would think a supported pistol at 20 yards Open or not should be able to shoot better than a 4" group? I can understand an open gun being different while going at it in a match or practice, but this is rested on a bench with sand bags. I guess I'll have a smith take a look at it just to make sure. JG~
  19. Have a full size for duty and a compact for carry. I love both. I use the full size mags in the compact which takes me to 10+1. Both guns are quite soft to shoot, so I'll have to disagree with the muzzle flip. Mags are sometimes hard to find so I bought 7 when I had the chance. For a duty or carry gun I highly reccomend them. For L-10 your just that. Limited! Good Luck.. John~
  20. I'm still trying to decide if the used open gun I purchased was shot out. At 10 yards the group from a sand bag rest is about 1" as I expected. When I move out to 20 Yards the group spreads out to 3-4" and is about 4 inches high. (Should the group be this high at 10 yards more?) The gun is an SVI Hybridcomp in .38 super with a c-more that looks a bit ragged. As a comparison I shot my Limited .45 SVI/Wilson and my groups were the same out to 20 yards.. About 1/2 - 1"... Both guns had a 10yard zero.. Let me know if its just me or I should have the gun looked at. Thanks in advance. John~
  21. Thanks for the input guys~ It's appreciated. John~
  22. All, Looking to see if anyone has experienced any difficulty having a C-more return to zero after taking if off the gun? I was wanting to do a good tear down and cleaning on my Open gun, but wanted to see if this would be ok to do? TIA, john~
  23. Well I'm not 100% sure. The gent I purchasd the gun from stated that 8.5gr of 350 behind a 115 JHP made major???? I guess it does in some sense, but not the 170-171 that I need. Could the OAL be something that could cause a decrease in my PF? I'm using the Hornady XTP JHP 115gr with an OAL of 1.215. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, john~
  24. Joshua, I checked every 5 rounds on the scale and they were all 8.5 to 8.4grain. I guess the scale could be incorrect Lyman-1000 so I'll dig up my old beam scale to double check. The gun has a 3 port hybrid and a 6 port comp. I guess a bit too many~ Thanks for the response, John~
  25. Well, now I wish I would not have moved the POA. It was in at 10-15yards, but shot high and to the right at 25 (With a nice group) I just wanted to get it zeroed at 25, but should have left it alone. At least I know to load an extra 300 rounds to take to the range tomorrow. BTW: Erik was right. A bit of lube and a good turn and it snapped clean off the gun (Just kidding) Thanks, John Apprentice to the destroyer of sights~
