  1. GSRswapandslow, I shoot 40 and 10mm. Have never tried lead in my 45 Hunter which has a polygonal barrel. The lower pressure of the round might make a difference. Have taken kalebg up on his kind offer. Will publish results. Would love to have a lead load that did not have 3 hours of cleaning after a every 50 rounds down range. Hornady lead bullets bullets work great in my 1911s, but they are land and grove barrels. Respectfully, 10mmjunkie
  2. Looking for lead bullets that do not lead polygonal barrels. Looking for 40 cal 180s. Hope you have the solution.

  3. kalebg, Beg to differ. I used almost every lead bullet that was recommended to me and they all leaded except Rainers and they were not significantly cheaper and never as accurate in my gun as low cost jacketed bullets. The only ones that I never tried were Berry's Bullets due to the cost was higher than Montana Gold. One of the things I found funny is that when I ordered each of these non-leading lead bullets, each of the salesmen had different poweders they either recommended or advised against. Powder list was the same but which side it was on varied. Bottom line is in my case it did not matter they all leaded the barrel. I truely wanted to find a lead bullet to work and spent almost as much money on that search (powder and bullet combinations)as I spent on the gun and never found one that worked. Agree that you will never know until you try. Just be wiser than I was and just get a sample rather than having 4,950 lead bullets that you have to sell to someone shooting a Sig. Best wishes to all. 10mmjunkie
  4. I have had extremely bad results using lead bullets and coated lead bullets. Both of these types leaded my barrel within the first 50 shots and it took hours to get it clean. There are quicker ways to clean than the method I use, but it poses a risk if left too long to damaging the barrel. After a detailed analysis it only costs an extra $22.00 a thousand to use Montana Gold or Zero bullets. In my area MG are less expensive due to shipping charges. Both shoot great (1 inch @ 50 feet)and my cleaning takes less than 5 min. All lead bullet or any of the popular coated bullets (Precision, Bayou Bullets, etc.) severely lead my Limited and Hunter barrels. I tried fast powders, slow powders, single base powders, double base powders from multiple manufactures, same lead streaks. Rainer bullets did not lead my barrel but never found a load that was as accurate as the jacketed and they were almost the same price as MGs. Others will have different experiences. If you decide to try it shoot 20-25 rounds pull the barrel and clean it. Would not go beyond this due to pressure issues. A badly leaded barrel will raise chamber pressures in a hurry, especially with fast powders. If your barrel shows any leading after 25 rounds you are probably out of luck. But you never know until you try. Best wishes, 10mmjunkie
  5. If you are coming up to Washington there is more than just USPSA. There are multiple IDPA and Steel Matches at Renton and Paul Bunyan (http://www.pbrsc.org/). Would be nice for another Tanfaglio shooter to show up to the Steel Match at PB (third Sunday of the Month). Come on up! Plus I would really like to feel that Henning trigger. Have not done anything to mine yet. By the way great selection. Hope you will be happy. 10mmjunkie
  6. Each of the organizations has different rules for weapons and how they are classified. No single weapon will be able to do it all. See the rules for each. I have owned a match 40 in the past and currently shoot a Limited 40. Actually a Hunter lower with a Limited upper. Love this rig. Mechanically I am not sure that it is any more accurate than the Match 40, but I do find it easier to shoot well. Both make ragged one hole groups at 50 ft and would easily hold the 10 ring on a B-6 at 25yds. If you already have the production side worked with your steel 40 I would recommend you find a couple of people who have both the Match and a Limited and try them out. My hands are kind of medium is size and the slightly smaller grip diameter of the Limited (same size as Hunter except mine is blue not wonder finish)just fit me better. Oddly the trigger was better on the less expensive match, but I still shoot my Hunter/Limited better. And I have these two excellent 6inch top ends in 10mm and 45 ACP when I get the urge to hit more than paper and steel. Best Wishes on your tough decision. 10mmjunkie
  7. I have never taken the sight off my limited slide. I have taken supposedly the same model sight off one of my Hunter slides. The base of mine was a solid piece of metal. The two items may be shims or spacers to fill the gap and should pose no issues to removal; however I would call EAA and talk to one of gunsmiths before proceeding. As your mount is a EAA product they can advise you on the best way to proceed. One idea is that when you remove your rear sight is to replace it with a bar to make racking the slide easier. Henning sells them at a reasonable price. Best wishes. 10mmjunkie
  8. Glad to see so many Tanfoglio shooters in the great NW. M57 congrats on an excellent pistol. Wish I had purchased one when they were available from CDNN. Love my Hunter. You may want to just get another top end for carry work. By the time you find someone to put on a new sight plus the cost of the site you have already paid for a new top end. The good news is you can select both compact, standard and long-slide versions in a variety of calibers and will probably not need any fitting. EAA website under parts. You can order them over the phone. M57 - Does the M57 indicate you are a 41 mag fan? One of my favorite calibers. Good shooting to all. Hope to see you on a range some day. 10mmjunkie
  9. Was hoping your life was a little less stressful than that. But COM works most of the time and don't forget that precision shot on your failure to stop drills. 10mmjunkie
  10. Keep them in the 10 ring (or A zone as you prefer). JW
  11. I used some extra long needle nose pliers. Try to keep the gap between the feeding lips centered to the body of the mag and parallel to each other. You may also find that the underside of the lips are a little rough and can use a bit of polishing. With one of mine that was the case. Hope this helps. Respectfully, 10mmjunkie
  12. Issue may not be with your OAL. Nominal for 10mm is 1.25in. If you can measure the distance between your feed lips on your mag. If it is not around .380 +/- .005 that could be your issue. Had to play with a couple of my initial mags to get them to run. Now no issues at all. Oddly none of them when tuned were exactly the same, but all in that range. Best wishes. 10mmjunkie
  13. houseofpain, Wolf Springs I bought the calibration pack plus a 20lb just in case. The first reason was to get the thing from throwing my brass further than the target (75 feet). Also found that it really changed the recoil dynamic and I think easier to control. There was also a rash of EAA 10mms at the time with cracked slides and the springs were thought to be a solution. Not sure if that was/is true, but the other two reasons are enough for me. Link to the page below: http://www.gunsprings.com/Semi-Auto%20Pistols/EAA/WITNESS%20SERIES%20/cID1/mID19/dID100 Hunter uses the Longslide springs. SKU is 13128 for the calibration pack. Glad to see the 10mm making a comeback. As more use and reload the case, better loads will follow. Still working on a honest 200gr load to make 1300fps without pressure signs. Have come close but have not found a load with a extreme spread of under 50fps (my personal standard) and I am a lot happier if it half that. Wish you well and hope your 10mm gives you as much good service as mine has. 10mmjunkie
  14. e-mishka, Have had very bad luck with them leading my Limited and Match barrels. Tried "Precision Bullets" with Aliant, AA and Hogdon powders. Fast, medium and even slow powders leaded barrel with every one of them. Tried Bayou Bullets twice. One batch happily did not lead the next one did. Ranier bullets did not lead but were never 10 ring accurate at distance. Have yet to try Berry's bullets because the cost is greater than just buying Montana Golds. All of these loads were target and practice velocity ammo, none exceeded 1050fps. The difference in cost between the cheapest coated lead bullet and MGs is like $20/1000. Twenty bucks is well worth not having to spend several hours getting the lead out of my barrel or using some very caustic chemicals that if not completely removed will damage the barrel. Thus no love from 10mmjunkie for coated lead bullets. Others will have different experiences and greater affection for them. Now if I only shot Sigs the story changes, but my primary target weapons are Tanfoglio pistols with polygonal barrels. Respectfully, 10mmjunkie
  15. houseofpain, I shoot the rig you have described. My Limited 40 top end required no fitting, but was a little tighter than the 10mm or 45 Hunter slide assemblies. Reliability has been virtually perfect with well over 2,000 rounds. Your luck may be different. One other way of doing it would be to purchase the 40 S&W 6 inch Match barrel and have that fit to the gun. Know a couple of people here in the great NW who have done that with a couple of them not needing any fitting at all. The spring that comes with the Hunter seems to work fine for those that use the 40 S&W barrel but they (and I) use a 18 or 20 lb springs for 10mm. Respectfully, JW
  16. mrgreentie, Tried a bunch of different bullets and powders. Ended up with 3.4 gr of Hogdon Clays behind a Montana Gold 180gr HP, in a Win Nickle case and using a CCI Small Pistol primer. OAL is 1.130 with a modest taper crimp. This load fits all my 40s and is completely reliable in my K-10 mags. My pistol is a Hunter frame with a Limited 40 top end and using a 14lb recoil spring. Vel is 850 fps with and extreme spread of only 12fps. This load will shoot 1.5 in at 25yds, with very modest recoil. Shoots almost as well in my SIGs. Hope this helps. Personal lessons learned. Avoid any type of coated lead bullet. Some work, most don't and it takes hours to get the lead out unless you have a Foul Out system (expensive) or are willing to use some very caustic chemicals on (but low cost) your barrel. I shoot jacketed to avoid the problem altogether and the extra cost is like $20/1000 rounds. Others will have different opinions but this is my answer. Best wishes. 10mmjunkie
  17. No issues on my hunter. I have both 10mm and 45 top ends. Sights have had no issues as of yet. Currently the frame is wearing a Limited 40 top end. This is the combination I use in Steel Matches. Would like to build one in 357 SIG but everyone tells me I am crazy. Accurate loads with 357 take a quarter of the time it does for 40 or 10mm. In fact I have yet to find a jacketed bullet load that is not 10 ring accurate at 25yds and most were X ring. 40 was a good deal harder. Have not tried the Henning Pads. May go that route if this is not successful. What I am focusing my attention on the most is not needing to reload at all. Hitting 5 steel targets fast only works when I am hitting. Problem is shooter needing more practice acquiring the trigger precisely not just rapidly (pushing left is driving me nuts). Thanks for all the assistance. Very Respectfully, 10mmjunkie
  18. Sorry for taking so long to report back. Keeping the mags fully loaded did help considerably. 4 of the 7 mags that I originally had problems with are now friction free and two had a little friction. Only one was there no change. Loaded the three back to full capacity and will leave them for a couple weeks. Hope that will be the end of it. Thanks to all for the assistance. Respectfully, 10mmjunkie
  19. Will only hold 14 and the last round on all of them is tight. Even if the mags were not sticking you would have difficulty getting it to lock in place if the slide was in battery. With all that said, I have had no issues with getting the slide back and it feeding the first round. Will head to the range tomorrow. Not sure I will see much relief, but one can hope. Need to work the 25 yd line and get some precision back. Will post how it goes. 10mmjunkie
  20. Loaded all 15 to the max. How long should I let them sit? Realize the answer is until they do not stick any more, but can you give me an idea. Thanks 10mmjunkie
  21. davids, Great info. Will look at picking up a 9mm barrel next month. Believe the breach face for 357 SIG and 10mm are the same. Hope to have it finished this summer. Will post my results. Thanks, JW
  22. davids, Who did the work on making a 357 SIG conversion? I love this round in my SIGs and would love to have one for my Hunter. Have yet to find anyone willing to take on the project. Respectfully 10mmjunkie
  23. Thanks. I will give that a try. Respectfully 10mmjunkie
  24. Just purchased the 10 new 10mm Mags for my Hunter. They have the black followers I was advised to get. All will hold the 14 rounds indicated and feed perfectly, but when full are difficult to get in the gun even with the action open. The mags are swelling and sticking on the sides. When I remove a round the mag goes in and drop out perfectly. Not good for rapid mag changes. Love these Tanfoglio pistols but the mags are killing me. The first bunch had to take .010 off the top of the pad to get then to not fall out while firing. Other than just living with only 13 round mags, any advice? Respectfully 10mmjunkie
  25. Thanks to all. I do not shoot USPSA but Steel Matches. Flat shooting and knocking over plates are all that count. 9mm will not always do that and even light 357 Sig will with less recoil than 40, not to mention cheaper bullets. Will see about getting a 9mm barrel from EAA. Respectfully, JW
