Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Flash, It sounds like you are planning the same process that I use. I only use lube for case prep. 1) Lube 2) Run through prep toolhead: FL size/de-cap, swage, trim. 3) Wet tumble and allow cases to dry (wet tumbling also cleans up any burrs from trimming) 4) Run through loading toolhead: universal de-cap, prime, powder, bullet feeder, seat, crimp Hope this helps.
  2. Processed about 3k .223 brass this weekend. It definitely works better than before, but processing brass probably isn’t the best test. Dillon lube can really gum up the works so that the cases don’t always slide into the shell plate correctly. I’ll be loading later this week and see how it goes. Thanks again.
  3. Got mine today. I've got a few thousand .223 cases to process this weekend so I'll let you know how it works. Thanks!
  4. Super 1050 and a 1200B. Easily as precise as my old RCBS trimmer. I'd probably quit reloading if I had to process brass any other way.
  5. What are you depriming on? If it is a 550 check the pin on the spent primer chute. It can bind and prevent the chute from opening.
  6. I get it. You are trying to convince HH6. Here's the no BS deal. 1050 will cure: ED (according to a friend) warts freckles farts PTSD But it will NOT do a thing for the elbow. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Kidding aside...what are you shooting? I ask becasue my elbow hurts after shooting a pistol from draw (i.e. presentation and "pushing" the gun toward target). I see no diff in the elbow after loading on the 550 or 1050. I imagine the 650 would be similiar. Sample of one disclaimer applies. Be a man - just buy it
  7. Late to the thread but - from what I've seen this is pretty typical. I see it with reloads as well as factory new. Happens in my G30 as well as 1911. Take a round an chamber it several times, measuring after each. You will almost certainly see a reduction in OAL, sometimes a significant amount. I just did this with a factory 230 gr FMJ in my 1911. Initial 1.250 1st chambering 1.241 2nd chambering 1.233 3rd chambering 1.230 4th chambering 1.221 5th chambering 1.112 This is why any time I unchamber a round it goes into a separate box and is used on my next range trip. Edited to fix the numbers.
  8. Another option for quick and cheap. 1" Sch40 PVC (perfect fit for toolhead) 1"x2" bushing 2" coupling 2" Sch 40 PVC 4"x2" flush bushing It's not pretty but it works.
  9. Yeah...there is a tube inside the black tube. It's aluminum and will have a colored plastic tip on it, held in place by an aluminum cap that threads onto the top of the black tube. The plastic tip and the tube will need to be correct for the primers you are using. IIRC red or blue for small primers, black for large. For the "inner" tube just look to make sure you are using the one with the appropriate inside diameter.
  10. check that the primer tube is in properly, the plastic tip has an alignment notch.
  11. No doubt someone with knowledge will chime in. I'm pretty green on the 1050. I can say that on mine the front (long) alignment pin is solidly engaged while there is still about 1/4" between the top of the case and the back-up rod. I have the die and rod adjusted per the book - die is backed off 1 turn from shellplate and rod is adjusted until it bottoms out in case.
  12. That's interesting. I'd been using the SS prior to getting the 1050. It works great but still required a seperate step. The swage station is a key reason I went with the 1050 and so far it's working nicely. Do you mind if I ask why you use the SS as opposed to the 1050 swager? thanks!
  13. All, When running separate toolheads for case prep and loading, do you have back-up dies on both toolheads? It seems unnecessary since the brass is swaged by the prep toolhead, I'm just not sure if I risk damage to the plate or cases during loading. Thanks!
  14. I guess my screen name fits I'd looked at the plastic tip through the front and it looked fine. Figured it being new no need to pull it apart. After your suggestion I pulled it out and the guide notch was broken on back. Replaced it and just ran 50 rounds without problems. Thanks for the suggestion.
