  1. I know Nighthawk builds Wilson knock off crap! Though I would not want to burden you with such a hunk of junk:) No seriously Nighthawk cannot or is unwilling to do a 2 lbs trigger job. They build fighting guns and are stuck at 4.5 lb trigger pulls. You start talking low they get nervous. I am sending it off to get the S&A mag well opened up, over sized ambi safety, 2- 2.5 lb trigger pull, install an SVI trigger, Ed Brown over sized magazine release and squared trigger guard from one of the well know smiths on this site. It will take a month but will post photo's as soon as it is done. Thanks for all the feedback. Bandog
  2. The first matches I shot back in the early 2000's were a disaster shooting wise plus my gun was always choking up on me. I beat myself into the ground for such poor performance. My mentor was pissed at me. It was not any fun. I enjoyed the training and I trained a lot but hated matches. I am just now getting started again after a long absence. I have a whole different attitude back then I was in my 20's now I am in my thirties. A lot more laid back. This time I am going to have fun and just let my mistakes be a learning opportunity. Of course I am going to not shoot well for a long time but heck that's not why I am shooting right now. Now a year down the road of competing I may change my tune and expect a lot more of myself but for now I just want to stay safe (never been a problem) and enjoy myself. You should too.
  3. I plan on getting a 550 very soon thank you for supporting us novice's with such great material!
  4. You were right most do production guns. Who is "the man" for 1911's?
  5. Due to injury I have not even shot the Nighthawk. So it cannot hold me back. I do want a 2- 2.5lb trigger. I know there are smiths on this forum could someone guide me to them? Thanks Go to the BE Vendor Tents and look at the names there. Some don't work that much on 1911 type guns but a number of them do and they are all quality gunsmiths. Personally I use Triangle Shooting Sports - 361-241-1091 - Benny Hill. Ck out his website Triangle Shooting Sports Than you. Nick

  7. I expect to reload soon. I am buying everything from Mr. Enos. I shopped Ebay for Dillon presses but I want mine new and unmolested. So I can only blame myself if I screw it up.
  8. I do like Nighthawk. They are on top of the GRP situation. It literally won't won't fully feed any hollow point. I bought it used but Nighthawk's warranty has you covered. I sent it down for a full inspection and to replace any suspect parts. Though they did not apparently test fire it with hollow points. When you say that a 3lb trigger will feel lighter if done properly than an 2.5lb from another smith if it is crisp? I am wondering if to get a 2 - 2.5 lb trigger pull you have to go with something like an SVI set up or spend a boat load on custom fitting? I figure I will buy the Dawson Ice Mag Well on Monday. The Tech Well proved it's self at this year's Single Stack Nationals (Go Dave Sevigny!) though I want to keep my slim grips.
  9. I know the lifetime warranty is not something I really want to screw with. I only question if the can reduce my trigger pull that low. I will call on Monday. I've got a GRP that refuses to fully chamber any sort of hollow point tried four manufacturers so I need to call them. That is pretty cool about the guy that won the mile high on a gun his dad built him.
  10. Thanks to everyone! This has been very informative. I do have another question. What mag well can I run and still use my thin VZ grips that I prefer? Tech Well is designed to have the grips support it. So you have to buy their grips. So I'd love to find an extended mag well that fits in the box with my Bomar sights and still run my thin grips for my baby hands. I like the looks of Stan Chen's MaxBevel mag well. The Dominator comes with what is or is a copy of a S&A mag well. Which has a less than generous opening. Great for carry though not so great for competition. Also I don't know if Nighthawk will do a 2 to 2.5 trigger as they are geared toward fighting guns rather than comp. guns. I emailed Canyon Creek about the mod's but Rich's email server kicked it back. Who else would you suggest that would have a rather quick turn around time?
  11. Yeah it's hard for a Nighthawk to look sexy when up against an Infinity. I am sure I would take a hit selling the Nighthawk. What could I do to improve it? I think the 4.5 lbs trigger pull a bit heavy I was thinking 3.5 to 3. I want an SVI short curved trigger. I spoke to Bob inventor of the Tech Well and given 2011 line up at USPSA Single Stack and how many were using it seems a given. I run my carry gun and my past duty gun with slim grips and a medium solid trigger. I do not have big hands my trigger finger is short so if I go to the Tech Well I'll need to run a short trigger due to the full size grips that come along with it. I was going to run the Tech Well unless anyone suggests another mag well that is as good that I should consider. I know Dave Sevigny was running a Tech Well on his gun when he toppled the king. As were many in the top ten at the 2011 Single Stack Nationals. As far as over size magazine releases any suggestions? Also I typically through training reach over the top and rack the slide upon new mag insertion though if an over sized slide top is allowed I'd like a suggestion on where to go for that. Thanks for the help so far guys.
  12. Hello I shot Limited 10 years ago in my twenties and loved it. Though I moved and stopped shooting USPSA and IDPA. For some reason well there are reasons but those are trivial as to why I picked the Single Stack division to get back into USPSA. I did not do my research and thought a Nighthawk Dominator would be a good gun for Single Stack. Well that's before I shot my friends Infinity .45. I have not shot the Dominator. The only modification I did was put a Dawson fiber optic sight on it. I was considering replacing the mag well with a Tech Well , putting an SVI short curved trigger in, extended magazine release (if you have recommendations please say) and reducing the trigger pull from 4.5lbs to 3lbs. My question is should I just sell this unfired Dominator and buy a gun built and ideally set up for Single Stack? I got to thinking maybe I made a mistake when a guy I was reading about gutted his stock firing group on his Wilson Combat CQB and put an SVI "Infinity Ignition Kit" in it. I want to have the ideal set up so I can blame only myself for my poor shooting. I just wanted to get some opinions before I do anything further with the Dominator ie shoot it and reduce it's value for resale. Thanks in advance.
  13. I am a big believer in defying the odds. I have been seriously injured before and was told I could never do this or that again. But I busted my ass and proved them wrong. I went to my surgeon today and when measuring the strength of my "gimp" hand I hurt his hand( I started rehabbing two days post op) When I get hurt the fight comes out. I am confident that I will be able to remain a right hand shooter now. I never give up. Even if I had to have become a lefty. They said I would always be somewhat handicapped in that hand but I have faith and will continue to defy the odds. Thanks for all the feedback guys:) I appreciate it. Really I do. Nick
  14. You guys are great! Thanks for all the support. Really I appreciate it. Right now I am two weeks post op and my arm still looks like someone stuck a lemon underneath my skin near my elbow. Truth be told I think I am jumping the gun into thinking I cannot shoot right side again. I am beginning to see slowly that is not may not necessarily true. It may come down to a matter of preference six weeks from now. I like when going left how the gun naturally comes up to my left eye. Though I don't know if I can develop the speed (drawing from the holster) from my left that I can from my right. That is my greatest concern and it is a toss up. Though it sure feels more natural drawing slowly from the left after a few hundred times. Really I think that even though I have damage that is not going anywhere to my right hand I can over come it. The questions is do I want to. Am I better off shooting left? I simply don't know at this point. I am the type that wants to push the limits. Now I am just confused. Left feels more natural. Though shooting right I have had 100's of thousands of presentations. I want answers though I may have to wait for a while. I just hate being in a position where I am hurt and don't know what is going to happen or what is best. Thank you to all of you. Nick
