I have used lead for years until the range I go to stopped all lead from being shot. They only want jacketed shot now. Something to do with the lead levels always being to high.
One thing I can tell you is the lead is much more work cleaning up the barrel etc etc. Its dirty compared to jacketed bullets. The jacketed bullets are a quick cleanup.
I get the same results, it worthless as a bore cleaner or its a 48hr job to get it clean. I do not have that type of time. I am using Shooters Choice amd M Pro 7 right now to clean. The M Pro 7 has no smell to it, so its real good for indoor use.
I have the old Dillion FL 2000, they call it the CV 2001 now. I got it around 1988. I have had no problems. I do not tumble for more then 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. Not sure if that gives it a longer life.
I checked 2 different books they both said 1.275 MAX OAL. My 45 loads are 1.255 OAL out of 1911 style guns, Bear, Sig, Kimber, Ed Brown. Never had any problems so far.
