  1. The folks above are right. Though most rules are pretty similar, they do vary and you have to checks the rules of each match.

Most Heavy Metal (or Heavy Irons) requires 308 rifle, 45 handgun, and 12 gauge pump shotgun and all 3 guns must use iron sights only. Some may allow a non-magnified optic (red dots) to be used on the rifle.

Heavy Optics (or some other variance in the name) is where things really vary. In whatever variance, the rifle is still a 308 but the use of magnified optics is allowed. The shotgun may be semi-auto or pump, and the handgun can be 9mm or bigger.

    Welcome to 3-Gun.

  2. Another round of confirmation emails were sent to everyone that sent in their registrations and were received by Nordic Comp as of Monday, May 20th.

We are nearing our max capacity for this match. Once we reach it, we will start a standby list. For this reason and also due to the amount of resources we are committing to this match, we have to impose a match cancellation deadline. If any registered shooters need to cancel out of the match, they will need to do so by June 27th for a full refund. After the June 27th deadline, refunds on any cancellations will only be given if a replacement shooter from the waiting list is able to take their place. Thanks for your understanding.

Need Ammo? I have a friend in WI who has more than 10 cases of Magtech 55gr FMJ 1,000 round cases in his garage. He is willing to sell it for $550 a thousand and ship the sealed factory case to students in this class for the $550 plus actual shipping costs. I know $.55 a round is not cheap, but it is decent ammo and he has it, with no sales tax. I'll give his contact info to anyone who signs up, it may go quickly, so as John Farnam would say don't dither....

Also a shout out to Jomar V, a real asset to local shooters. Jomar will be publishing this on their MN 3 Gun Facebook and web page. He and Chief Bryan Payne have both publicly said Erik and Mike are great shooters, competitors and trainers, we have a great facility managed by Ron Westberg to host the event. I promise no snow in July. If you want high quality 3 Gun training sign up now!

  4. With all these talk of food, I'm guessing that even if I can't shoot good, I'll be atleast eating good.

I predict that you will be eating good and taking home the HM title.

I just took a look at the squad list. Double disappointment that there are ony a few HM shooters and you, the HM Champion, are not shooting HM. I guess I should be thanking you for giving the rest of us a chance at winning.

  5. There will be five of us there from Brownells. All on Squad two so I apologize in advance to the rest of the squad. Bringing three newbies along, so be patient with us. When you see the shirt, make sure to say hello. Anyone remember the name and location of the good restaurant/bar (maybe South side) in Fayette. I remember they had a bike night advertised, if that clue helps. Nice place, good food, owner was a great guy.

I don't remember the name, but I'm sure we can find it. We're staying in Fayette again but at a different venue from last year. Looking forward to seeing you again old friend.

  6. Thanks for the input from everyone so far. This is all new to me and I'm gathering info as I go along. I'm part of a small and loosely organized group of guys that hold matches at host ranges. Even though we are loosely organized, we are still a recognized group to those who attend our matches. Technically, the matches we hold are the host range's match as our group does not get any money. So technically, liabilty coverage falls on the host range. But I just want to give me and my group a little added protection.

We all love the good old honor system where it is accepted that getting hurt is an inherent risk to participating, and that you do so willingly and without bad intentions. But we know thats not the way the world operates now a days. I know that there is no magic document that will outright protect anyone. And I know that no document will stop anyone from pursuing a lawsuit. But something is better than nothing in my opinion.

  7. As many of you know, the legendary Tom Knapp passed away last Friday, April 26th, of pulmonary fibrosis. Tom Knapp was a Minnesota native and was a great exhibition shooter, a performer, an instructor, and an ambassador of the shooting sport. He traveled the United States and the world giving trick-shooting exhibitions for Winchester, Benelli USA, Federal Cartridge, and CZ-USA. He appeared on numerous TV shows and had hosted “Benelli’s American Birdhunter’’ TV show.

According to an news article, there will be no funeral services, per Tom Knapp’s wishes. Family and friends will gather on May 11th at the Del Tone/Luth Gun Club in St. Cloud to celebrate his life. The family prefers memorials to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org).

The Minnesota 3-Gun Group, our title sponsor Nordic Components, and our host range Del Tone/Luth Gun Club is proud to dedicate one of our stages of our Tactical Shotgun Championship to commerate Tom Knapp. One of Tom Knapp's legendary exhibition tricks was to throw 10 clay pigeons up in the air all at once and shoot them all individually before they hit the ground. Each competitor in our match will get to imitate Tom Knapp. The stage will be similar to the charcoal stage our match have been known for, but the shooter will be throwing clay pigeons instead to shoot in the air. Also on that same stage will be a donation box for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Here is a link to a short article on Tom Knapp from our local newspaper… http://www.startribune.com/sports/outdoors/205490811.html

And a links to an old video on YouTube of Tom Knapp setting the Work Record 10 Clays…

  8. I'm looking for assistance in making a couple of liability forms used at matches.

The first being a liability release form to be signed by a competitor to not hold the event holder or range responsible for any injuries or damage they may sustain while participating in the event.

The second is some sort of agreement form that the competitor must agree to not use steel core, incendiary, or armor piercing ammunition at a match or be held liable for damages caused by their use.

If anyone has any info or format that they could share, it would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Do we get extra credit if we field a team of 5 for all 5 divisions?

Sure! Your 5th can be the cheerleader, but he has to wear the skirt! Be a good incentive to not be last place out of the 5 team members too!

    jj

Oh boy, you might need someone else to shoot HM for you Chris. I don't know if I can take the chance of being the last place and have to wear a skirt. JJ will never let the city-kitty off of that one.

  10. Another round of confirmation emails were sent to everyone that sent in their registrations and were received by Nordic Comp as of last Friday, March 29th. The Del-Tone Luth Gun Range is back open after a long winter hibernation, so the checks for the registration fees will soon be deposited.

Everything is progressing well towards the match. We have a lot of sponsors on-board to make this a not-to-miss match.

  11. I use a soft double gun case, put my rifle and shotgun inside it, then stick the soft case inside a big Starlight case. There's rooms left on the end for my handgun in a gun rug, as well as my shotshell carriers, mag carriers, and rifle magazines.

Same for me. I make sure my long guns are securely strapped inside the soft case to minimize their movement.

  12. just talked to neil. we can't wait. we are all looking forward to this shoot.

Jon, I sent you and Susan a confirmation email but I received a notice that the email address I have for you was undeliverable. It may have been that I entered it wrong. When you get a chance, please send me your correct email to jvillamor1@hotmail.com.

Looking forward to seeing you and Susan back in your old home here. The Del-Tone Luth Range just doesn't feel the same without you two running it.

  13. Confirmation emails were sent to everyone that sent in their registrations and were received by Nordic Comp as of last Friday, February 22nd.

We will try to accomodate everyone's squad requests. If there are specific people you want to be squaded with, it would be helpful if you all write each others names on the squad request line of your registration form. People who request to be squaded with each other gets priority.

  14. Saw a Black Dog 50 round drum for Ruger 10/22 at Sportsman's Warehouse today just sitting there on the shelf. From the time I saw it until the time it was in my cart was under a second...quickest reaction time I have ever logged. :)

    jj

I can just imagine the look on JJ's face as he grabbed that mag.
