  1. Thanks to all that have responded.

I was one of three winners of the drawing from the FN forum and Coles so I will be the owner of a SCAR as soon as Coles gets them in stock for the winners. I am excited to give the rifle a good run and I'll post my results on the FN forum when they are available if anyone is interested. I would like to use the SCAR for 3 gun if possible - that would be all 3 firearms from FN for me.

  2. I have a modular vest system that Coyote Tactical built for me. The different front pannels interchange with fastex buckels so I can swap it out for whatever I need to do.

    AR15 Mag carrier:

    Uzi/9mm AR/Glock 30 rounders. Holds 8

SAIGA-12, holds 4 ten rounders. This is the piece I most commonly use for 3 Gun matches, particularly Trooper Division. Subgun pouch is attached. I use Glock 30 rounders or Uzi mags in it depending on what the stage requires

Camelback can still be used as a stand alone unit:

    Pistol Belt:

Spec Ops Brand Belt and thigh rigs. VAPOR holster chassis has Safariland holster installed. I prefer the VAPOR holster chassis becuse the dual suspension system limits back and forth movement on the leg.

AR mag pouches on thigh are from Coyote Tactical. They are kydex lined.

The dump pouch was sized to hold 4 empty Saiga mags.

Suspenders help distribute the weight and add to comfort. Duty belt keepers make sure the pistol belt does not ride up over my pants belt.

If you see something you like Coyote Tactical can build it for you, e-mail coyotetactical@gmail.com

That is great... Thank you for putting that info together - it looks like that is the direction I am considering

I am still kicking this around. I know this is a game, but...... I think I would like a set up that would also be good for shtf - - I don't see me as a guy who will be so good that I might get a sponsor and shoot for a living.....

Not trying to stir things up, just looking to have fun and train at the same time. I'll get there one way or the other.

  3. Get a good two piece belt and go from there. Have Amber feed you a little better and you can drastically increase the amount of gear you can fit on your belt. :)

Looks like I need to move my mind in the direction of the belt. I have an urge to set up in a way that would also be good for shtf type of stuff, but I realize I need to move into another way of thinking for 3 gun.

Amber made some great nacho's last night and grilled chicken the night before, so she's trying to do her part to help me out with space available for gear.

  4. I use an Urban ERT sling that will work with multiple weapons and they sell the connectors for different types of weapons. They have one made for that type of stock.

It has been a good sling and I use it on everything I have.

  5. I am just getting into the sport.

I am currently shooting a FNP-40 for IDPA SSP and I like the pistol.

I am in the process of buying a FNP SLP MK 1 and making the proper modifications for 3 gun. I'm going to run open sights.

    ................

If I'm running a pistol that is SSP for IDPA and a shotgun with open sights - should I stick to open sights on the rifle?

I have read plenty of stuff but I can't figure out how the classifications for 3 gun work. The best I can tell is that it might change a little from one shoot to the next.

A friend recently told me that real men shoot iron sights and I don't disagree with that. While in the military I only used open sights on the M-16.

With that said I bought an Aimpoint CompML2 2x 2 MOA with a Larue (LT150) mount and a Troy Folding Rear Battle Sight. I am interested in at least trying out the Aimpoint, but I could easily use it on another rifle won't be used for 3 gun.

So to the real question here.... If I run the Aimpoint will that generally push me into a different classification than if I were to use open sights?

I don't mind opinions about what is better - irons, dot, 1-4, etc... - but I'm really looking for help about where I should start with consideration to the other choice of weapons I've made.

Is there anything else I should be asking here?

Is there a place to read answers to this stuff and I've just missed it?

    Thanks for any good info

  6. I bought a Aimpoint CompML2 Red Dot Sight 30mm Tube 2x 2 MOA Dot Matte for $390.00 NIB. I'm not sure how cheap you were wanting to go, but that's not too bad of a price compared to other good dots.

Let us know what you pick and how it works out for you

  7. Gregor_k -

Thanks for the pic - I didn't realize how tight that set up is - looks like its easy to run out of rail. I looks like I should have started with the cantilever mount so I wouldn't have to get use to something new if I add the magnifier. Is there another way to put that together or does it call for the cantilever mount? I can see that you have the set up I am going for (I guess you like it).... how far out do you shoot with it and do you use the same zero all the time or do you change for different shoots?

Thanks for the pic and any info you might give.

  8. I started the 3 gun deal this year and went with the FNH SLP MK1 and could not be happier. Like Tod said, just get a Nordic bolt handle, WELD THE LIFT GATE and a little dremel and polish. Go shoot a couple hundred rounds through it on a sporting clays course, clean it, shoot another 50 and wet it good the morning of competition. Oh, and always use the light piston. Only use the heavy for 3" loads. I shot with Tod at Kentucky whenhe had ole' Nelli before he sold her. Then at Fayette he had the new SX. I think the FN had "shown him the light". Tod, I hope I'm not speaking out of school here? If you needs some pictures of my mods let me know and I'll be glad to share. I've got a pretty nice BRA (bolt release assist) that my smith made. You'll need one of those too. Enjoy your FN!

I would really appreciate some photos - I get through Topeka regularly and would be happy to drop off some of your favorite beverage.

    Thanks

  9. I'm just getting set up for 3gun. I have been trying to decide between the Benelli M2 and the FN SLP Mark 1. I believe I have decided on the FN. I have two other firearms from FN and I really like the company. I know there are more people out there that like the Benelli and I know it's proven to be a great shotgun. The one thing that worries me about the FN is that it dosen't have much for aftermarket support.

So with all that said - for those that are running the FN do you have any suggestions? Any thing about the FN that might surprise me?

    Thanks for any help.

  10. I was originally going to use the ARMS mounts, but I bought the Larue and it's on it's way. I'll set it up and see what I get - I'll post the results. I might have to end up swapping, but most posts I read sounded like the Larue would be the way to go. Everyone knows how posts can be, almost everyone likes what they have and most never tried anything else. Best thing would have been to see it on a similar rifle (in person), but that wasn't an option. I don't mind swapping if I have to. Thanks for the info everyone and keep it coming if you have more good info.

  11. Using a arms cantalever type mount ever sinvce the ban went away. Still holding strong. I do not remove the scope I see no need.

    Laure is better grear.

You can really save some cash by not getting the aimpoint and 3x mag. Just purchase a 1-4 scope.

I know that lots of people prefer the 1-4 scope and that they are very good with them. I went for the Aimpoint because I've never been as fast/accurate through a 1-4 scope and I like my weapons to be available for protection if necessary. The magnifier is not really that important to me, I might try it to help on a longer shoot and just want to make sure I set up in a way that doesn't take that option away. I like regular scopes and have some on other rifles, I'm just not as comfortable with one for up close work.

    Thanks for the post.

  12. Hello all.

I'm new to the sport. I was in the military and have experience as a shooter.

I am trying to set up a RRA flat top with an Aimpoint CompML2 and buis . At some point I might want to add the 3X magnifier. I do have the tactical handle, but it appears to have no use for me (if it can help me please let me know)

I believe I have decided to use A.R.M.S gear.

So with all of that said I'm looking for help to make sure I understand what I need. I believe I would like to have a 1/3 lower co witness. I also think I want to keep the regular front sight for now - I'll swap it if it becomes necessary.

A.R.M.S has the A.R.M.S.® #22M68™ Throw Lever Ring - is this what I need and if so what spacer will get me to the 1/3 lower co witness.

They have a few different buis - I would like to be able to flip it down and I'd like to be able to make as much adjustment as reasonably possible. What is the best version for me?

Is there anything I'm not asking?

If you suggest a different brand all together - please include the info to get me to the same place (lower 1/3 co witness and buis)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a separate question - I'm considering buying another Aimpoint CompML2 to add to another AR with a carry handle - by mounting to the carry handle (over the hand guards). Anyone who has tried this let me know how it worked for you.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks if advance for anyone who shares their time to give good information.
