  1. Took the SCAR to the range for the first time today. Put 500 rounds through it with zero failures. The SCAR feels great. The weight is comparable to my ARs, but it is balanced much different. I like the feel of the SCAR.

    Prone position

Wind was between 25 and 35 mph today

    Federal 55 grain (cheap stuff)

The SCAR performed much better than I expected

  2. After many calls to FN, they finally told me http://Bartssports.com/ would stock them. Several months later, I finally got a tri-rail for about $125. Took awhile but worth it. Very sturdy for laser and light for home defense. Good luck!

Has taken a while, but mine is on it's way. They put me on a list and then sent an email when mine was in stock. Very nice people - this was my first purchase from them.

  3. I bought the first one my favorite distributor got in stock....$160 was too good a deal to pass up.

Does that price include the mount and the optic or optic only?

Sounds like he got a special deal, but everything I've seen is closer to $200 with no mount.

Whatever I get I'd like to put on the flip to side mount.

  4. If you've test out a Burris Tripler - what do you think of it. Price seems good, but I can't find anyone who has used one much. Here is a few links I found about it.

I like the Aimpoint dot and have been considering one of their 3x to try on a flip mount for fun.

  5. Tommy knows what he is talking about & he and the other FN shooters have backed it up with wins/solid performances at the 2 and 3gun shoots we have been holding at Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn. While it is not "my" match (I only run/design the USPSA handgun out there) I have volunteered to help out at 2 recent matches where the SCAR showed up. OP - to answer your question: yes - the SCAR is being used & seems to work well for 3gun.

Price: some things to remember about FN - they are not only a major sponsors of the competitive shooting sports, they are also the suppliers for many of the MADE IN THE USA small arms that our brave fighting soldiers are fielding over seas to keep us safe here at home.

Those facts carry a lot of weight in my book.

    Thanks Carlos

I now have 4 of their products and I'm very impressed with the company. The other 3 products I have of theirs have run perfectly with zero malfunctions so far. My SCAR will begin it's shooting life at the end of this week. I gave it an initial cleaning today and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to break down and clean.

  6. I shot one at FNH 3 Gun and liked it. It would take a little to get used to but I thought it would be fine for 3 gun.

Probably my biggest gripe on it (other than price) is the mismatched color of the parts. Surely they could get all

the tan colors to match and make everything else black, grey, or parkerized and not some of each. Just looks assembled from assorted parts bins as it is, color-wise. But I could live with it. ;)

    Craig

The color is odd. Mine is different - the lower is darker. It appears that they are still playing with the color, since they seem to change colors as the newer batches ship.

I've seen info that they might be putting out a limited run in black that is supposed to look good. I've seen a pic, but it could have been one of the older versions.

I've always stuck to all black, so this color is "fun" for me. Stepping out of the box.

How did you feel about the different recoil? Were you shooting optics/irons?

  7. I do have prior training in this area. I served in a unit that allowed me to do a tremendous amount of training like this (it's been a while though) and now I'd like to see some more of it from different instructors.

So far it looks like there is not any fans of Suarez....

I am looking for some real - save my/my loved ones lives - kind of training.

I'm going to spend some time checking into the suggestions given and I appreciate the information.

    Thanks

  8. Detroit

I've worked there a few times over the last few years and I did not find it to be as bad as it sounds on the news, but the stats don't lie there. Lots of problems.

  9. I am going to go to a gun fighting school and I'm looking for advice. I'm interested in up close and personal type training. Right now I am thinking about some courses from Suarez International. Where have you been and was the training helpful for a fight type of scenario. I am looking for training that is related to realistic personal safety.

    Thanks

  10. I'm about to start heat stippling some of my weapons. I've read a lot of information and I'm going to try a few different methods - wood burning iron - soldering iron - with different tips to get different effects to include a marred screw.

To those who have attempted this....

    What did you practice on?

What equipment/tip accomplished the results you were looking for?

What methods worked for you... Pressure/heat/sanding/etc...

    What didn't work?

For IDPA/USPSA does this cause any issues?

    What am I not asking?

If you want to - post some photos of your work. I will when I have some to show.

    Thanks

  11. New SLP owner here....

I'm about to clean off the factory gunk and take it out for a couple hundred shells and I'm looking for info on how to care for this shotgun. I've never owned an auto (been using the same old pump for the last 15 years). What places should be wet and what lube do you use? Anything else? I plan on using this shotgun for 3 gun so it will be run hard.

    Thanks

  12. Took the Kimber Custom II to the range today and put 200 rounds down range. Zero failures - it ran excellent. Felt great in my hand. Looks like I'm going to have to get some .45 reloading gear.

This is my first 1911 style pistol and my first .45. I need to get some gear for it... to start with I need mags. What mags go best with this pistol.

  13. Thanks to all that have responded.

I was one of three winners of the drawing from the FN forum and Coles so I will be the owner of a SCAR as soon as Coles gets them in stock for the winners. I am excited to give the rifle a good run and I'll post my results on the FN forum when they are available if anyone is interested. I would like to use the SCAR for 3 gun if possible - that would be all 3 firearms from FN for me.

Free kind of negates the argument about price. Dude take the gun and run with it. If you like it cool. If not, sell it. It will sell for a pretty penny.

Nope.... still a good argument, I won a chance to buy one.

I want it.... I have a friend in Afghanistan that's using one for real work (the larger cal 7.62 version) and he has some great things to say about it. He also likes the 5.56, but said he only got to test the 5.56 and has the 7.62 issued to him. He said he has never had a malfunction with it and things fall down when he shoots at them. Good enough for me.

I have started to learn that what might be good for real work might not be good for 3 gun, so that was my real reason for the post. I still have a desire to play/train with things that would serve a real world purpose if needed.
