  1. Man o Man.. Glad you are OK. :surprise: .... Seems your hands and fingers are still good.. you are still here typing your post......

I don't know about you guys..... This post is giving me the chills right now... I just came back from the indoor range sighting in the G35 for a evening match tomorrow night.

    I'm using:

    Factory Barrel

    180gr FN Bear Creek

    5.0 gr 231

I've been using it all season and is a very accurate load, I'm going to load tonight I'll double check my 550 to ensure no set back, etc. Lastly, clean out the bore..

    Any other suggestions welcomed...

Just chin up brother, get another G35....

  2. Thanks for all the input!

I know it isn't a defensive forum, but I'm USPSA/ IPSC shooter by heart and value input here at Maku mozo.. simply because all you guys shoot, not just talk about guns.

Unfortunately, some other forums lean too much to tactics or tacticool ( oh gotta have HK USP or yada yada yada)..... I'm looking for input from shooters that have sent thousands of rounds down range in a practical/ competition sense. ... I'm sure you guys follow what I mean....

His question really stumped me, especially i've been exposed to $2500 race guns and the like. My home gear are 92FS and Sig 228, even those are out of price range. Used G17 is looking at top of list so far......

  3. Hi all,

I'm helping a friend get into shooting and really interested in learning to shoot. He wants to protect his home and shop.

He has limited budget. Less than $400

My question to all of you.

    Used?

    Inexpensive new?

    Revolver?

At first thought, 9mm and Used police trade in. G17, SW 5906 simply because you can get high quality pistols at great price, only difference is used.

As for new Pistols, I have looked at SW Sigma 9, Hi Point 9mm, EAA EZ9mm..

    Thanks

    Ed

  4. Hello all.... I hope this is the right forum..

I have at S&W 1006 sitting in the safe for years. Anybody know or point me in the direction of the value of this pistol?

    Includes 2 magazines.

    Thanks in advance

  5. Thank you Galt11 for bringing this one up. I've been surfing the internet for a handheld you guys are talking about.

How important is Lumens in terms of Civilian use? I can see a couple i'm looking at both using the 123A Cells.

    2 cell is 210 Lumens

    1 Cell is 100 Lumens.

Anybody heard of the Nu-flare brand?

    TIA

  6. Back 20 yrs ago, I thought I had to be knee deep in brass at every practice session to get even a modicum of benefit of improved skills and such, hell one yr, I 'll admit it I burned 30,000 rds thru 1 gun in a single yr....now 20 yrs later, looking back at it, did I shoot those 30,000 rds 'intelligently'???? probably not, blastingto be blasting is onething, but now, we have access to lots of different materials that can and do help us in improving our individual skill levels, this forum for one!!!!!! we have DVD's and youtube etc....hell the internet....I have some magill tapes around here somewhere that have been re-wound waaay too many times trying to get every scrap of info out of em back in the day....you can do all this and not haveto spend a dime on range fee's and more importantly these days AMMO....

    Calishootr -

I totally agree... I started as a kid almost 20 yrs ago , around 91 and picked up IPSC again this year. Shooting on Pop's dime was a big help  I started with Steel challenge, it definitely needs alot of trigger time to shave off times. As for USPSA, IPSC, IDPA , economy of motion, as it has been shared many times, is where speed comes from, not the trigger finger.

I still have my "shooter ready?" and J. Michael Plaxco VHS tapes! :roflol: Alot of our training was amongst fellow shooters not video's or professional shooters/instructors we have today.

My practice time is our weekly club matches at NRG. Ok , i'll burn about 200 rds but my shooting colleagues and I would take vids of each other and break down the video's and play them forward and in reverse to examine our footwork and engagement. As time permits, I'll visit the indoor range during the week and practice marksmanship, trigger control, shot calling, breathing.. etc. I try to ingrain those skills into my subconscious since I noticed those aspects are not at the top of my list as I'm at a IPSC club match. Then at home, practice draw's, dry fire and reloading. Then with an airsoft, I use the TV for practice for target acquisition. .... As mentioned, components cost alot more nowadays compared to 1992..

  7. Flack Jacket, I love these guns!! They are the raciest things ever built.

Thanks AL !!! I like her too to put her in the safe and build another one while she still works.

I've been thinking of upgrading to a C more railway and custom mount. I guess I'll do that after the Tasco breaks.

After coming back to shooting this year, the gear has changed a whole bunch since 1994. Main difference I see is better designed comps, 170mm mags and 9mm major(woohoo!! my favorite change since the 175 PF).

  8. Thanks for the input!! I'm going to try out these various holsters. Unfortunately, my Open pistol is not 1911 based. it's CZ/Tanfolio based, but it does have a "squared" trigger guard. As for Limited, my pistol is a G35. LOL I guess I'm making it hard for myself for the different trigger guard widths and shapes....

    Suggestions?

  9. Let's bring it waaaay back with this one.......

    8e68d750.jpg

Made Circa 1992 or 1993 when Springfield armory was importing Tanfolio and calling them P9. This was based on the P9 LSP (Long slide ported) I Can't remember exact year, it took the gunsmith 2+ years to finish one of two ordered. (Dad and mine, that's another story)

It was a tack driver then, I hope it's still competitive. The side ports and 2 port comp seems a bit dated but the weight of the pistol kept it flat shooting and side ports reduced alot of felt recoil.....

The Tasco PDP3 was the latest and greatest and the club members were modding the dot to 10MOA or larger... :surprise:

I don't believe 170mm mags were in effect yet, so at the time we added thick base pads and hollowed out the follower to cram in 23 or 24 rounds. State of the art at the time...... :roflol:

It's currently chambered in 9x21 and planning to bring this back out and shoot Open with this one once I find appropriate mags and re-barrel in 9x19.. I noticed Briley still makes 6 Inch barrels.

  10. Morning all.....

Way back in Late 80's Early 90's when selecting an OPEN holster, shooters selected a holster "THE" Safariland 007 Final Option.

After getting back into IPSC/ USPSA I noticed Safariland is no longer on the top of the heap.

Prominent choices at the range are CR Speed, Ghost and Limcat with a multitude of different mag carriers and belts.

Does Safariland lack in performance, Looks, Cost, etc?

    TIA

Do you have Brian Enos's Book? ^_^ It has tips on grip and stance. Hopefully Mr. Enos can chime in...

I believe you are trying to control Muzzle flip vs. Recoil.

My understanding recoil is Always going to be a byproduct of firing the pistol. Current compensator designs can Help reduce felt recoil through popple holes and/or side ports. Top ports will help control muzzle flip.

Since you are possibly firing a non-compensated pistol then I agree with the guys above....

+1 on Grip strength too. It's combination of physical capability and technique.

  12. Nice gear guys!

Good to see shooting enthusiasts also enjoy time pieces.

    Here's one of mine....

Rolex Model 16713 Duo Tone GMT Master II with Jubilee bracelet.

OOps should have read lol......nothing like a rolex!!

Look mine up , love it wear it everyday Im not at work. Best thing, it will be my sons one day!

I agree!! One day it will be my son's too. (once I have one!) Rolex is a mainstay, however, I enjoy all types of time pieces. There are alot of other makes out there. A buddy picked up a SINN and another a U-Boat. I dig the larger 44mm + cases.

  14. Nice gear!!

What scope mount are you using for the CZ/EAA/P9?

    Thanks

    What CZ/EAA/P9?

Sorry, it's pistols based on EAA frame, CZ or Tanfolio and the old Springfield P9 LSP ( which I have)

I still have a Pro Point PDP3 and looking to move to C More but can not find a mount.

  15. I am having a hard time getting my draw to be consistantly quick. I usually draw 1.50-1.60 to first shot. In practics or dry fire at home I can get it down to 1.2-1.3 sometimes. Here is a steel match and a uspsa match that I shot this last weekend. How am I wasting movement or going slow. Feel free to comment on other areas in the uspsa match. Good Shooting Bro!!

You are doing very well right now...

How I draw from the surrender position:

    - I move my strong hand a split second first before the weak hand.

    2 Reasons:

    1. My weak hand does not need to go as far, about sternum level, so it meets my strong hand perfectly at position two.

    2. I noticed I will reduce the amount my body will move if arms move separate times.

    - While pistol in rig, take a full shooting grip with strong hand, then I "measure" and only pivot my wrists upward from the elbows. Provided my wrists are above my shoulders. ( I think that stipulates it in the rule book)

    - Think "snatching" the gun... then have both hands meet approximately at sternum level, as you press the gun out. Only if you have a good full grip. Just practice.

    - Steel Challenge allows holster to be in the appendix position on your rig, easier to draw vs. the muzzle parallel to your pant seam.

    - USPSA Production class rules require muzzle to be parallel to pant seam. Correct me on this. Or is it IDPA?

    - Try a different holster, Ghost, Limcat, CR. Less leather to clear ( if any), your times will improve.

    Hope my tips help.

  16. I can't give advice on Open, but I can invite you to come out and shoot at Norco if you are in the Socal/LA area.

We shoot every Saturday morning at around 8:30 and have a blast. A lot of nice people and a lot of awesome shooters at Norco.

You can find more info here: http://nrg.jvdynamics.com/nrg/

    Hope to see you there!

    Chris R.

    Chris,
